This is a great technique for removal of a ring from a swollen finger. This video was made for almost anyone who wears rings but especially for medical students, residents, ER physicians, nurses, hand surgeons, plastic surgeons, or orthopaedic surgeons.

I cannot thank you enough for this video!!! I have been trying this method since morning but in all videos it shows that the ring comes of in one pull, but this one works multiple times on finger gradually taking it off which is the smartest. I am so happy, you literally saved me. God bless you!

My 18ct wedding ring had to be cut off in the Accident and Emergency Department after I had an accident. The medical staff tried to remove the ring unsuccessfully with soap and water but it was necessary to cut it off as the finger became extremely swollen and discoloured.The jeweller had to insert a piece of gold for the repair as the repeated attempts to cut the ring off left the edges quite damaged.

Damage to rings is not unusual but the alternative of losing a finger makes it justifiable. The technique shown here is sometimes difficult to perform in the hustle and bustle of an ER. Hopefully, more people and physicians will see this technique and adopt it.

@RobertoMikiMD I have used the method you demonstrated with very thin ribbon on a different occasion. After the ring was removed, I had surgery to replace the radial head of my elbow. I managed to have a bad fall on the way to my Doctors practice of all places!!

Not sure what I’m doing wrong, but the floss just slides and scrapes across the skin and doesn’t take the ring with it.

You can try a different type of dental floss or use a string. You can also use a ribbon. You may need to get a ring cutter.

This method didn't work for me my ring has too large of a top so the string wouldn't catch I ended up using hand soap and nearly tearing my finger off but finally got it good luck with the string method it looks incredible

Cara ini sangat menyiksa ,,,,dn sngt sakit , ,Cara nya,,, Rendam pake Air Es,,,? Untuk beberapa menit Hingga telapak dn jari jari terasa dingin Dan tangan lansung angkat ke atas posisi jari lurus ? Biarkan tangan posisi ke atas , 5 - 10 menit Kemudian di beri pelumas,,dan tangan tetap posisi di atas jari jari tetap lurus? Dn putar cincin pelan pelan Sambil memposisi kan cincin agar kulit tidak tertarik ,,? Maka cincin bisa di lepas,,,dan tidak menyiksa??

There is more than one method to remove a ring. The one you describe should work as well but may take a little longer.

Thank you for watching. Sometimes ring cutters are not available. Sometimes people do not want to cut the ring, But it is true that is an easy way to address the problem.
