In todays video a take a look at the tubetech cl1b compressor. The cl1b compressor is the goto choice for many engineer and producers and has made itself the top compressor for many rappers. I todays video I go over why so many rappers use the tubetech cl1b in their vocal chain.

Cla1b is a perfect compressor for every vocals, both rappers and singers too, I usually slam while recording, kinda give that warmth transparent and clean Vocal

To get great vox to fit in the mix try this- clb1, vocal rider and another compressor of your choice (me personally i use waves R vox)

Warm audio just did a clone of this comp. LA2a and Distressor are also golden standard for vocals. You have to have good vocalist first and all this gear will not make you sound good if you dont know what you are doing

for my vox i cut off low in end with eq and do some minor adjustments, nothing crazy or extreme, just give the vocal the general characteristics i want to hear, then i compress with waves rcompress, add some air, compress with la2a, and then fx

Why “every” rapper uses this compressor? Because of hype. The rap audio game is based so much on hype, trend, and followings. The Tube Tech has been spotted on some K.West sessions (among others). And the rest is history. Especially since the CL1B is often used for a tiny bit of compression, which is what most clean compressor could do if we are 100% honest. Don’t get me wrong, I got 2 CL1A here. But the trend and bandwagon movement is undeniable imho.

nah… the tube tech cl1b is THE best compressor for hyping up vocals and giving them a color that NO other compressor can provide.

@@ThinkerHaistTV people either love or hate the UAD ecosystem. I love it personally and use several plugins on every mix, though yes they can be pricey but with bundles and sales, it’s not unattainable how many hardware pieces are for most people

If your using the VST version - True Dynamics by Kazrog have their own 1B which is less transparent, I sometimes prefer it tbh

Truth is, Stuart Brawley, and a few other engineers working out of record plant in the early 2000s Had it in their setups for cutting singing vocals, but right about the same time rap became pop music, and by default CL-1b was used on a lot of signature records of that era. When the next gen of engineers came around, well if it ain't broke don't fix it, and the hits just kept stacking up.... Great comp, tho..

CLA-76 is a pretty good alternative plugin from Waves

CLA2A is the alternative because of the same tube topology. CLA76 has FET topology, not the same. Or you can try the Softube CL1B.

I Just clicked bcuz the title said "every" rapper. I am a professional audio engineer and producer in Houston, Tx., I have this compressor and others like the La2A, 176, 1176,etc., and I have recorded multiple famous artist and platinum selling artist. I have been in many top studios that also record top artist. This is bullsh*t and you should chose another source for info.
