In this talk, career coach and employment expert, Julia Rock, shines a light on the three "hidden" factors that are challenging employee fulfillment and engagement at work. Through vulnerably sharing her personal challenges to find fulfillment in her career, Julia addresses how uncovering these factors enables both employers and employees to establish stronger workplace cultures, create psychologically safe environments, and ultimately create mutual long-term success.
Julia C. Rock is a career and leadership development coach who has helped hundreds of ambitious Black and POC professionals break through career plateaus to secure six-figure salaries and fulfilling job opportunities. Through her company, Rock Career Development, she now helps Black and POC former athletes and professionals in transition successfully find their next career play. Through her signature coaching methods, clients are able to secure dream positions while earning their value and then some.

I agree if your not happy on your job because management is bad and the co workers are bad that can be stressful life is too short to be stressed out so if your stressed on any job just leave having happiness and piece of mind is far more important than a job don t get me wrong you need money to pay for things because nothing is for free but piece of mind should be a main priority for all human beings

@@rockcareer because employers will burnout their staff, making them work the job for 3 or 4 people. It is failure on the leadership’s part. It’s their responsibility to keep a full staff and care about the wellbeing of their employees.

Career Coach from the UK here. My experience is that people are mentally and as a result physically tired because of the economy, wealth inequality, bad management, toxic workplaces, and a lack of fulfilment and stimulation.

This was great! So many managers know how to do the work exceptional well; but have not been trained how to lead a team and manage. Managers need training and coaching or how to manage and Julia is the person they need to get them right!!

_"She had won at her JOB"_ ... but's it's not a _vocation_ . People are ever more alienated from the end result of their hard work and decreasingly rewarded while having to put in more and more time and effort. On top of that, their hard work gets them nothing anymore. People work to subsist, not even to _live_ anymore. The system is the problem and reaching it's breaking point. Burnout is the canary in the coal mine.

This was soooooo goood!!! A conversation that the majority are not having in this way because of fear of ownership or “letting corporate off the hook.” But no one is “off the hook” We’re all accountable and we’re in this together!

Caution... "burnout" is often a blame shifting manipulating victim shaming tactic but can be just a shamful reality that workers get labeled "burned-out" by well meaning people wanting to help the worker instead of fixing the real issues.... nearly impossible situations created by administrators or at least unresisted by administrators... then when the expected outcome of strain, stress, anger, resentment occur they say the person is "burned out" and needs strategies to resist their fate... like individuals in concentration camps were just "burned out".... do nothing about the situation... 😂... if you want an example: in the medical field I have seen it repeatedly... impossible patient volume and volumonous charting on those individuals to achieve great care with expectations that the individual commits no errors and gets a subjective "excellent" rating on reviews with pay that is based on 2005 Medicare reimbursement rates... (literally the same rate is paid physicians since 2005 form Medicare and Medicaid). Yeah that is going to work out. Anyway... I'm not burned-out. I recognized the problem was the system, started my own practice and am the administrator and caregiver in a model of Healthcare that is better. God bless, stay safe and prepared

true in some cases but in most cases it ends up blaming employees as if blame shifting and inefficiency - a bully tactic often played by the top to the down hiding their own ineffectiveness and inefficiencies and poor management and leadership

Julia you're SOOOO good on stage. Ahhhhh, I'm so proud of you friend! Here is what I loved, you didn't drown us with stat after stat after stat, and you talked more about the human-side effect of traumas and I think it's important how you highlighted "not all traumas are the same". It was really well done. It kept you engaged on something that you might not be "engaged" on. You were active listening for all 19 minutes. It wasn't research-heavy cramming it down our throats and our eyes glaze over, it was approachable and from the comments I've read, people saw themselves in your talk. They SEE loved ones or people they know in your words, that's powerful. I sure hope you'll be speaking A LOT MORE in 2024 and beyond, you were amazing and commanding the stage and our attention masterfully!

Yep. Everything she said is exactly what im going through. Especially being undiagnosed with autism as a woman, dealing with immense amounts of trauma, i couldn't keep my career. I broke down. Now im doing something i like a lot because im by myself BUT the pay is not great. Really bad. Life is tough man. Especially when your different.

Managers that have “done their time” and other phrases are the problem. We are all wanting to glorify suffering and think we earn a promotion based on enduring the most suffering. You get a promotion because a spot opens up. That’s all.

Is it though’ because managers are employees like everyone else in the Business. I think the culture today is looking for their perfect fit as in employee choice. As in how you want to work . I’ve seen coworkers decide how they show up to work and how they want to engage on job tasks. Basically nothing gets done because people want a paycheck and fulfillment on their perception of Most policies or guidelines today don’t fit the work Environment. No accountability.

It depends what type of employees europe find a way of abusing refugees and closing up ways of help once you get burnt if you are not awaken this days in your work place u be one of those 50 procent burnt out workers with zero rigths put your health first and salary second🎉🎉🎉

I call BS. Today’s society considers, working more than four hours/day delivering exceptional quality, burn out. Let’s see how they define burnout, if they were the business owner having to make payroll for employees complaining about burnout.

This speaker and the intended audience have to be from the most fragile generation our world has yet experienced. Perhaps the problem of not being prepared for your job was because you were handed your diploma and the job based on what special group you identified with. "Psychologically safe environments?" I'd take an office job pushing papers and sipping on a latte vs trying to keep an unstable person alive who is bleeding out due to trauma after I have been up for nearly 24 hours. Your generation is the weakest ever produced or the older lot who push the notion of victimhood onto the younger mental weaklings who run to safe spaces.
