Today we're talking with David Marvin, director of the Porch at Watermark Church. David has written a book, "We're All Freaking Out (and Why We Don't Need To)," which aims to provide a Biblical way for Christians to deal with anxiety and depression. We discuss why Millennials seem to be so widely affected by anxiety, and David offers advice and solutions for people struggling with those feelings, explained from a Biblical perspective. David also shares his own personal experience with anxiety and how faith helped him through it.

This was ABSOLUTELY amazing! Especially the clarity on Philippians 4… meditation. I have always felt guilty about my tendencies to be anxious and that verse is why! Praise God.

I don’t usually comment on anything, but this time I had to. Everything is always about the 18-30 year olds. There is another generation that is suffering from anxiety, loneliness and isolation and that is the over 60’s. The young are facing the uncertainty of their future. So are the elders. We are facing the loneliness of losing our spouse, oftentimes bad family relationships, living on a fixed income with rising cost of living and church. The church is geared toward the young and the seniors are mostly forgotten about. I would love to see, not only on your show but others as well addressing the same needs of the young.

This interview is so edifying. I came from a word of faith background originally, and I still struggle with those beliefs especially when it comes to fears and anxiety. One of the big things they promote is that if something bad happens, it’s basically because you don’t have enough faith! All I saw that do was cause confusion, fear, and even more anxiety. I’m still deconstructing from one of the things I learned over the course of a decade.

I’m loving all these in-person interviews! They definitely feel more personal and comfortable to watch. I know certain situations prevent people from being able to travel all the way to the studio for just an interview, but after all the video call interviews we’ve been subject to due to the lockdowns, it’s like a breath of fresh air to see human beings interacting with one another, face to face!! Also, I’m meeting with a friend tomorrow morning who shared that she struggles with anxiety and relying on the Lord. I was praying for her before hopping on KZfaq to see that Allie’s most recent video is dealing with the biblical response to anxiety!! God and His providence😲 Praise the Lord because this is exactly what I needed

Same. " I AM here no matter what." I need to turn my attention from my egos lists of 'what if' ... And know, no matter what, " I will meet you there " ... at the end of all the what if's , God will meet me there. Wow... anxiety and fear flings open the door, and God gently closes the it , reminding me 'Nothing Real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.' Here in lies the Peace of God. We're all dreaming we're separate from God, but we can't be... it is the light inside of us. I can sleep now... I pray you have sweet dreams.

I like what he said about letting the scenario play out. When you go through the worse case scenario, it also helps you to prepare for the future (life insurance, having a plan, etc.) I have also had a worse case scenario play out when my mother died at just 56 years old. But God has walked with me every step of the way. Even when my grief comes in deeply, I remember that He is with me. And with him all things are possible. With him, I can keep going and living the life God has called me to as a wife and mother.

I've been slackin' at watchin' over the past week or so, Allie, but I am glad I didn't miss this chat between you and David. And if it is any comfort or consolation, those of us who are older had to resist an addiction to television--and then to cable television--if we wanted to avoid wasted days and wasted nights. And then, sure, we suddenly had to keep telephones in check, too. But television was a big one for many decades, such a distraction and all of that, and cable television was television on steroids, all those channels.

Thank you so much for this episode. I can say from personal experience that what David Marvin says is so very true! This past month I have been through the hardest time of my life so far. My husband almost died. I just wanted to say that it was only when I prayed "Thy will be done" that I experienced God's peace so clearly over me. I am so thankful that our God knows we are 'but dust' and He can handle us being honest with Him. I clearly remember telling Him that He knew my heart and how hard is was for me to say those words, but I trusted Him and would say them anyway. He gave me such peace in the midst of the storm that I can't even explain. Praise be to God alone! I am extremely happy to say that God turned around the whole situation! Within a two week period of time my husbands condition went from the doctor telling us to come say our goodbyes to him now being out of ICU and quickly on his way to getting strong and hopefully coming home soon!!! Only God!

Just a note....... There are different kinds of Anxiety that people may have ( Whether for long periods of time or short...). Years ago I was diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression BUTTTTT I WASN'T WORRIED ABOUT ANYTHING. FOR REAL. I just did not feel well in my head. It would come out of no where. I would get super depressed at times making me really tired and I couldn't do much accept pray and listen to the Bible. So years ago they put me on Medicines for Depression and Anti Anxiety Medicine.....And guess what? I felt better. I eventually weaned myself off the anxiety meds but the other I still need........ Plus, from what I've learned since then I'm not in a position to even try and get off it now.

I’ve always had a serious confusion (and I think resentment!) about clinical anxiety. I’ve had it for years, fortunately it comes and goes so it’s not constant. But when a person feels anxiety for no apparent reason, how can we train our thoughts then? “Getting everything that I want is not possible, but peace is…. Having control is not an option but peace is” I can’t agree with these statements in the case of clinical anxiety. And this has always confused me as a Christian. We are promised peace in the Bible yet I experience an illness that literally robs me of all peace? I wish I could get my head around this!

I think this discussion was mostly about general anxiety felt by most people. My son has clinical anxiety, and has had some success with medication to treat chemical imbalance that seems to be causing it. He would have panic attacks at times when he wasn't worried about anything at all. I believe these guys aren't saying that this type of anxiety doesn't exist, or that treatment by a doctor isn't ever warranted, but rather they're giving an extra tool to combat anxiety that is caused by out of control thought processes - usually because we're too focused on our own control rather than trusting that God is in control. I will be praying for you, Margot, that you will be able to find a treatment that can free you from this issue! I've seen first-hand what it can do to an otherwise happy person. May God give you wisdom and strength to get proper treatment!

@@WendyWzOpinion thank you Wendy! I wasn’t expecting such a kind reply, I’m truly grateful. Clinical anxiety is an awful predicament. I can’t seem to train my brain out of it. Medication has helped me quite a bit but it’s still confusing to me that Jesus would allow this sort of illness. I will continue on with a sacrifice of praise and maybe one day I’ll understand it all!

The key is Seeking a righteous intuitive thought. Which means Step 1 through 5. Thinking, remembering, problem solving, knowing, then judging. The key is permeating your mind with God's word so when it comes to the moment to make a decision and to overcome anxiety his thoughts will be your thoughts.

I think I'm having a little bit of PTSD and anxiety from hitting a deer head on and totaling my vehicle this past Monday, which consequently was opening day for rifle deer hunting here in Michigan. Praising God I wasn't physically hurt, and the big buck seemed to die quickly and not suffer long. Was very sad and hard to see.

What I am learning to control is the anxiety brought on by panicking over seeing so many hurt, confused people my heart aches for them. I constantly got to disconnect and concentrate on Christ. I am not Christ, I’m not the Holy Spirit that work is not meant for me I just need to chill, love God, love others. Love God, love his creations not the worldly things not man made things!

Not sure if anyone can understand my plight here but as a graduate from a medical assistant program and now coming face to face with a vaccine mandate for something I don't want to take this slightly worries me and how hard I've worked for something and what my future is going to look like in 10 years since the left looks irremovable from their grasp on power. I'm a Christian and I study the word of God however I don't know what God would plan since so much is happening with a lot of people

A PRECIOUS STONE IS LAID. To be broken is gain. The LORDS love falls like rain. His grace shines like the suns rays. Although there seems to be only darkness these days. Understand that every thing is his and he’s not late. Praise the Lord Ohh give him thanks. THE storm was made for a purpose. WHAT SEEMS hopeless leads to his River currents. There is no end to hope. Love has no limits. And all are his and he cares for his children. PRAISE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WHO LAID DOWN HIS LIFE. Praise him in your darkness and he will turn it to light.

I think the anxiety started when they first realized they had to get out of bed on their own. The generation of everyone gets a participation award mentality. Most of these individuals can't comprehend accountability for oneself. If you grow up with someone holdin your hand since birth/through life till the time you leave college then "bam"! someone opens up the door and it's called the real world. If you've never grown up with responsibilities as a learning tool ie accountability for oneself, the real world can be overwhelming. The individuals that are born in the '90s I don't understand how the parents from the '80s could have let this happen, but then again maybe I can, at least the liberal city folk anyway.🤔 ⏰🛌☕ 🇺🇸📖🙏⏳🌎

Regarding 37 min mark..this is why expecting couples should not opt in for genetic testing . All it does is claim that there is a ‘potential’ chance your child might have this or that abnormality. Its not accurate, and for many non believing couples, it can lead to an abortion of a completely healthy child. In this man David and his wife’s case, it led to unnecessary extreme anxiety for the remainder of the pregnancy.
