Why Ferrari’s Race Pace Is Extremely Competitive To Red Bull
Ferrari just won the Australian GP, and even with Max Verstappen getting a DNF. The SF24 showed it is truly a very competitive car. Red bull is worried the Ferrari could be the quicker car depending on track. What has made this new concept work so well for Ferrari with upgrades coming real soon.

one of the biggest changes is how much theyve improved now operationally , the pitstops in Australia were all 2.2-2.4 range , no strategy mishaps and Charles went from p4 to p2 comfortably , Fred Vassuer deserves credit for this

Ferrari is the only team that decided to try something different. They understand that they are not catching RB by simply copying their car. This path at least gives them options.

Whats really impressive is how they have eliminated almost all their weaknesses and turned some into strengths. Tyre wear is super strong, the car is fast on all tracks, not just super low/high speed tracks like the sf-23, it can be setup, and has been bulletproof in terms of reliabiliy. (Both Ferrari and RB failures are from brembo breaks, tho brembo said the RB one was the teams fault) all whilst keeping the cars strenght of massive mechanical grip and power. Meanwhile, Mclaren have made a step, but still seem a bit high speed corner reliant Mercedes has gone backwards And AM have traded race pace for quali pace

But Red Bull also surprised everyone by completely changing their concept. They didn’t just comfortably stick to their guns, but actually took a risk and went for something completely new. In the end it still paid off as their car is very strong and now they have a completely new concept they can keep developing rather than having the other teams catching up by adopting the RB19 concept.

For max to win he would have had to finish ATLEAST one minute ahead of Perez , don’t get me wrong it’s obvious how much Perez is struggling and is underperforming , and he is often like 20 seconds - 30 seconds behind max, but max would have to be atleast one minute ahead of Perez for red bull to win , that tells me red bull weren’t so dominant at Australia , and they was a genuine fight .

This what I like about ferrari, they haven't followed the rest and changed suspension layouts and gone the red bull way. The have gone in their own direction, think this is why mercedes are having so many problems, they have had either a different chassis, different aero platform, or different suspension on 3 occasions during the 3 seasons. With that amount of change with no figuring out the previous design fully, is a small wonder they don't have previous track data that works or correlation from sim and cfd.

Don't get too much hope just yet, even last year, where RBR was completely dominating, there was a race (Singapore) RBR suddenly underperform but then quickly recovered back to their peak form the next race. It might be a closer this year, but the first 2 races were still a clear hint that they're still way ahead of everyone else.

The only reason why Ferrari did as well as they did was because Max had a freak, seized brake disc & Checo was unfairly penalized after Q3. Until Checo damaged his floor, he had the fastest car 'on track'. If he had clear air then, he would have easily got the fastest lap. Don't get us wrong, Carlos executed an excellent race, after both RB's were severely penalized.

Problem with the example of Max in Mexico GP is because he wasn't under any pressure so he was able to just hit the same lap time on a constant basis but I believe the more there is pressure put on then things could prove to be different especially if there's two Ferraris behind him within 2 seconds
@Redlingstein
@Redlingstein 2 ай бұрын
Max ALWAYS drives consitent lap times cos that’s how he manages his tyre wear, he does that in traffic, like starting P9 in Miami and driving P1… … On Classic tracks the RBR is better suited than street tracks, RBR knows that. That’s cos tyre wear on street tracks is not due to overheating but due to graining. The RBR cars handle overheating tyre wear as one of the best on the grid, that’s their strength.

Given that Max DNF the ability of the RB20 to not tear up its' tires as fuel load decreases has not much merit. Max has shown he can nurse the tires as needed to pull off the win. Also as Brundle has stated Max is comfortable with the uncomfortable. Also Carlos did not have Max pushing him so would the SF24 been as gentle on its' tires had Max been in the race. Would Carlos even had won? Does the Ferrari show good promise? In a word yes. It would be prudent to judge when there is a full length race between them. And anyone thinking RB has exhausted its bag of tricks to win races is swimming against the current. Lastly Ferrari has historically found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The race strategists have yet to prove their worth over the course of a full campaign.

In regards to strategy we'll have to wait and see if Ferrari improve as they're known for consistently bottling strategy when things get competitive. Also next year they'll have Lewis. I don't want to hear more of this bullshit that's he's washed and finished. If he's given a car on a similar level to Red Bull, I'm confident he'll return to form and all the haters will look so stupid.

Agree. Its way to premature. We need a few more different tracks to see a pattern. All 3 so far are outlier tracks. Which don’t say anything abt the rest of the season, all teams said so in interviews these last 3 races.

Ferrari doesn't in normal circumstances. Australia was a outlier because it was so hot. Unexpectedly hot. RB was able to prep for Jeddah and Bahrain. Aus, not so much. It caught them lacking, and Ferrari being good enough in hot temps (they've been like that for years) meant they were prepped for a good race. And that's when the RB's had damage. lol. They're getting waxed at Suzuka

I still have virtually zero belief that this year will be competitive at the very front, but Ferrari is my main hope currently. Mclaren and Aston Martin I can't see them quite making it for this year and next year, and Mercedes are just tragic, I've fully given up on them.

Too soon to properly judge but it seems that ferrari are really improving. The thing is that RBR might have more performance left on their pockets as I'm not sure they're giving 100% yet. Japan will be a good measure about that and the actual order.

to me in this season the RedBull and Max Verstappen will still be very dominant, i don't think ferrari can neither compete for the constructors since Perez seems to be back in shape. Ferrari this year could get a few wins in tracks with high graining and in 2025 could look to finally make a competitive car.

Unrelated, but I'm starting to think low deg in general would bring any somewhat poorly performing car, regardless of general pace, to at least a very competitive midfielder, as long as it's not sorely lacking in literally eveyrthing else. This did well for Aston last year, and now Ferrari, I think good tyre wear performance is severely underestimated by both the teams and the fans.......what do you think?

i do still think Redbull is some ways ahead on these tracks, Max was afterall only "slow" because of his car killing itself. But seriously, Ferrari might have some chance for 2025, with a really good 2024 concept to build on, and they will have the strongest lineup on the grid for 2025. Depending on who's in the 2nd Redbull seat and if said driver delivers, maybe Ferrari has a chance to steal the WCC for 2025. I still think they will be behind, but not by much at all

@@daanklas776you saw wrong lol watch on Yt the comparison of Max with Carlos on Quali lap. Then you’ll see that FERRARI was the one with better slow cornering and RBR with better fast corners. Max always foucusses on the corner EXIT to take the most speed with him onto the fast corner or straight that follows. Max sacrifices the corner entry a bit for the better corner exit. Watch that vid online, it shows it with the 2 cars in cartoon on track.
