In Star Citizen you can drop air-to-ground ordnance on ground targets. The most famous being the massive size 10 'Colossus' bomb the Hercules A2 can drop. Smaller bombs like the size 3 'Thunderball' are in-game currently as well. However, ships cannot install the smaller bomb pylons just yet as of this build (3.17).

@@Ganttura1 Shockwaves already exist in the game. Try dropping the bomb and watch it from a distance, preferably at night. You'll see a clear shockwave.

@@Khinouille you can see it in the day as well. The angle is what matters. From above you can easily see it ring outwards. It also leaves a charred crater behind. From this horizontal angle you can’t see the shockwave as clear.

Just so long as the enemy doesn't target the bomb itself.. we pretty much didn't have to worry about A2s at Jumptown, between our air support and the Reclaimer's scanner letting us know early when they're coming. That being said, it felt like Hunt for Red October on the ground whenever someone called out "A2 incoming!".

@@user-vp9lc9up6v yeah the eclipse is pretty OP considering most ground teams at JT couldn't even see me til I had already fired the torp, plus im already moving at 1km/s so most air support would need to redirect itself, destroyed alotta carracks doing this, on top of this I encountered a hammerhead once just hovering above jumptown doing air support with its many turrets just chilling, suffice to say he did not last long hovering there sitting still.

That's a very basic animation. It's a common college assignment, make robot arm move object from one place to another. Sure it's cool that they made it, but as far as the animation itself there's nothing really to be impressed about.

@@DeliberateConfusion Its the physicality behind every operation in StarCitizen that is impressive. While you are on the flight deck, and you press the button to drop munitions, a bomb simply doesn't poop out the bottom, an entire mechanical and physical operation takes place on the spacecraft to make it happen. If it's so basic I would love to see what you have designed.

@@dickduran I can kinda agree with where he's going. If you take the animation at face value just for what it is (an animation), it's cool, sure, but it's not OUT THERE as in brain meltingly cool. Now, the fact that all of it is physical, that you have to buy the bomb somewhere else probably millions of KMs away from the unfortunate recipient, see it mounted to the ship, and dropped via a very real physical place your character can fuck around in inside a ship that's cruising at blazing fast speeds on a very good looking procedural playground, now THAT's impressive!

I respectfully disagree! I prefer... the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it... and it's worked out pretty well so far. Find an excuse to let one of these off the chain, and I personally guarantee you the bad guys won't even want to come out of their caves. For your consideration... the A2.

Probably because of server performance. Once they improve it and more players can roam on the same server I'm sure there will be wrecks left behind from destroyed vehicles

Seems like an air fuel bomb kinda. Needs some adjustments imo. The sound of the blast needs to be delayed and hit with a concussive shockwave. If you've watched an explosion at a distance, you just know it doesn't feel right without that delay.

Well since its not made for a cinematic it has to be dynamic in game and the delay should depend on the distance of the observer.

@@subbss Great thing about SC is that they have the tools to make it dynamic. They can also make it change based on air pressure, so different Worlds have different speeds of sound. It wouldn't take a single tenth of an FPS to do those kinds of menial calculations at all.

It actually has delay, few hundred of milliseconds. The flash you see is when the bomb actually hits the ground and the delay doesn't have to be massive considering the rather small distance of the viewer from the bombing.

By taking two or three times as long as most other big-boy projects? Sure it is taking forever, but the number of people that are blown away by the game when they first see it would seem to indicate that there is a lot of return for that time investment.

This is Hurston, However its a very specific location. Parts of Hurston is a Savannah biome; You can look up a guide on how to reach these areas. Happy Exploring.

The flames extinguish much to fast. I think that's the biggest issue with the explosion effects, it's over in half a second which is super unrealistic when referencing footage I've seen of comparatively sized explosions in real life, the flames continue to expand and persist for much longer. And there's not really a smoke cloud after the explosion in SC.

Top 3 reasons I love this video: 3. It's shows off amazing Star Citizen tech. 2. It's short enough that you don't know what's going on UNTIL you're impressed. And the number one one reason I love this video, there's nothing in the name or link that that says Star Citizen, so your Star Citizen hater friends click the link, watch the video, are impressed (even though they won't admit it) after realizing it's a Star Citizen video...

Hopefully they add doppler effect for in atmosphere ordinance. You were pretty far away, sound wouldn't hit until a second or 3 after the flash. Hopefully fireball/smoke will linger longer too.

this is why all of my spacewarships are equipped with 4 CWME to power 3 WMG and 2 CWMS and the capital ships have inbetween 1-10 Planetary-Class Anti-Matter Fusion Powered Inter-system Warp Capable Missile smaller sized ones such as the SBB-04 Britanica doesn't carry em but larger sized ones such as the SBBV-144 Gaia (which is a Galactica-Class which is the biggest useable spacewarship class) carries 10

Curious how far it can drop. If it will auto detonate in air or only on impact. If it's impact, might drop it from higher altitude to avoid ground-to-air defense 🤔. Anyone test this?

The bomb is quite slow so the higher you drop it the more time someone has to shoot it down. I have not tested dropping the bomb from the edge of atmosphere tho, I'd expect it to just fall all the way to the ground but can't be sure.

I haven't played for about 6 months but as an eclipse pilot, when I'd do jumptown with my squad, there was a reason I killed any A2 on sight. Actually I might have started the eclipse overwatch thing because people started copying us once they saw how well it worked.

They aren’t announcing release dates publicly because whenever they do and miss them they get a ton of negative press. The games progressing pretty well and using the progress tracker on the website you can see exactly what devs are working on what / when they will be working on what. Development is extremely transparent despite what people say. They mentioned awhile back that beta will come when they have the core tech and 4-5 systems In. At this rate that seems like it will be another 3 years minimum but they are opening a new studio that focuses exclusively on system creation so depending how well that goes it could take shorter or longer.
