Unfortunately, from what I've learned in several videos as well about Japan, the younger generation don't really talk about WWII in their history class. In a way, it was "brushed off." Their knowledge of war would be more about shogunates, samurais, and Shinsengumi-but again, not a lot. The older generation would have a bit more knowledge-some from personal experience, and some that were able to learn it in school when it was taught for a brief period. Not sure how that went down, but I'd hazard a guess in thinking that it puts Japan in a heroic point of view, and then playing victim, rather than them being in the wrong.

The fact that most Japanese aren't aware of their history is one of the reasons why other countries are angry, but yeah, everytime I meet a Japanese and end up talking about what our country been through under their occupation they apologize sincerely.

Most (if not all) of my fellow countrymen may have already forgiven the Japanese anyway without even having them apologizing. We Filipinos are more forgiving than you might think. I agree, with how most of us felt detached and does not seem to care about what happened in the pass. I don't hate Japanese, American, British and Spanish people, but they were part of our History and how it turned what is the Philippine is today. Though it is sad to think about how some or our History is removed and forgotten, it is nice to know what or how people lived here in the Philippines in our Pre-colonial History. I think we are just becoming to westernized, nothing wrong with that, but the history of the Philippines is vast and we have a lot to learn from it.

If the thought is for the learners to forge their values and goal formation, attachment to history should definitely be in the books. Learning, definitely, is different from feeling. Objectively, in my case of learning history, I tend to see it as learning from something that happened in the past. Nothing more. If we are going to digest everything and let us be consumed by the emotional distress that happened, how can we move on? Not generally a lack of awareness as the portrayal of the occupation is grave enough to remind us how cruel it is. More research and documentation? What more can we find than the harshness that happened. I assume we're only digging more into negative testaments based on its general principles. On the other hand, if we agree on awareness in the sense that we can use the past as lessons and how we can better ourselves, this will lead to a more inclusive and healthy sphere. Less reactive, more constructive. I think more than the lack of information, teaching the students how to use information and research to create a more inclusive community is ideal. For those who didn't get justice until today is a different story. They must be supported but bringing the idea to a larger scale would just create chaos. We sympathize not empathize. I am sure our lola's and lolo's wouldn't want their apos feel the same feeling they felt. To keep the story short, we don't despise because we lack awareness. We forgive because that's how our Lolo and Lola raised us to be. I am a Filipino and a high school teacher.

On number 5: There are actually tales that the Koreans were more vicious to Filipinos during the Japanese occupation.I don't know if it's true or not but I heard it from my mom who heard from her parents, grandparents,older gen who survived WW2 that the Korean soldiers were the ones who bayoneted babies. What surprised me is, I've seen comments here that have similar stories but we are from various places in the country.

And there was a Korean officer was executed for war crimes to the Filipinos. I need to get back at that comment where he named an author of a study or a book about it. There are not really substantial proofs about the rumors of Koreans being more vicious because their population in the army was few. As a Filipino, yes we were colonized by Japan but our elders (those who are still alive) mainly remembers the Spanish time when talking about colonization here. We were only colonized for 3years by Japan and 333 years by Spain. By the time we were colonized by Japan, we got help from US with General Douglas MacArthur (honored by the Philippines) thus having Japan surrendered to us with the Guerilla campaign like a resistance group. You say open minded young generations? Yeah a little bit but mainly we are open minded because our ancestors taught us to be kind and forgiving. It is not only us the young generation, but also our forefathers. Just want to share this to you, there was a man named Elpidio Quirino in the Philippines and during Japan and US war here, his wife and 3 of his children were ones of those hundred thousands who were killed. He was pretty mad but then 8 years later he became a president in the Republic of the Philippines. And you know what he did? He pardoned all the Japanese war criminals and sent them home to Japan despite his own family killed during the war. Then he said, “I have granted pardons so that hatred against the Japanese will not remain among my descendants and the Filipino people.” And that's when I think Filipinos started to forgive others, not just our minds that were opened but our hearts also. That is why we could be able to love foreigners equally despite those colonizations. Our attitudes helped us get through the darkness we experienced. Be polite, kind, loving, and forgiving. His words came true. The hatred against Japanese or any other nations were not normalized. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Philippines will always be that hospitable and forgiving country you'll ever see. And because of that, Japan honoured him by building a memorial of Elpidio Quirino in Tokyo. He was hurt, he had seen Japan as an enemy, but as a Filipino and an individual, he showed that true winning is forgiving and he does not want the Filipinos to live a life resenting others. For me, a lot of old people I know only see Japan as tourist/economic powerhouse(some even know some comfort women personally), though they don't like the past, they don't really mind it that much. I am really Sorry for what some Japanese did in the past 🙏 ... I am Brazilian with Japanese, Korean, Ainu and French descendence. In WWII time my family was against what was hapening in Japan back there and they tried to all come to Brazil but they were poor and only a few of them could come to Brazil and the rest had to remain in Japan... Japan situation was bad and there were a Lot of starvation and lack of resources back them. A Lot of orphans too. The bad soldiers who were bad outside Japan were also bad with their countrymen, womem and children and they were bullies with them... I am really Sorry that they also did horrible things outside Japan 🙏... And I also feels Sad because those bad people dirty the name of the hole nation of the past and even now...but please believe that there are also good people in Japan even back them who were against what was hapening and did not agree with those atrocities. ... Philippines is a wonderful country with kind and gentle people with delicious food and beautifull and elegant people thank you for your understanding and kind heart ❤️ I also love Philippines ❤️ and I also love Korea which is part of who I am, China and all countries ❤️ let's develop a love each day bigger to the world ❤️ we are One family only called Human Race ❤️

But we cant blame them cause there are a huge portion of not well-spoken Filipinos who only know a handful of English words, phrases, and expressions plus the stigma among men that when you speak English well, you're effiminate; and for women, you're "know-it-all', you want to sound "educated" and "superior".
