I had a medieval history course for college last semester that covered this subject and man is it interesting. It increased my love for this time period especially with learning about these Germanics being their own distinct people but incooperating the remnants of the Roman administration and making sense of Catholicism as they viewed it stronger than their Germanic Gods due to Christians winning battles against them amongst many other factors.

I figured out how to avoid the struggle for Britannia in this mod, basically as Britannia start the game normal and declare independence before West Rome releases you. Anglo Saxons still try invading but things aren’t apocalyptic like normal.

i am frankish in the german rhineland, it kinda annoys me to always see people confuse the frankish empire with France. Franks are a germanic tribe, and french are a gallo romans who got conquered and then mixed with some franks, but they are not the same. why is France disunited? because it is not France

France is the land of the Franks, the Franks always refused to be merged with other Germanic tribes. You can’t claim being Frankish, the tribes times are over. The inheritance goes to the heirs of the Franks, which is France, the country of the Franks. Just like the Mongols for Mongolia, or the Kazakhs for Kazakhstan.

@LeVraiCG7 wow this is so wrong i dont even know where to start. it is a simple fact that 1. they were germanic and 2. did not even originated in modern day France. once they conquered Gaul and the gallo-roman population there they did not left all their original homeland in modern day german rhineland and the lowlands. thats why France still speaks a latin language while actuall frankish developed into Old Low Franconian (Old Dutch) and Old High Franconian which dissolved with other West Germanic varieties into Old High German while only influencing old French to seperate it from other latin languages. keeping the name of the Franks doesnt make you frankish, especially because the eastern part (Germany) was still called East Francia after the treaty of Verdun. it would be like saying Alexander the Great was north macedonian, just because they kept the name of it. and i wasnt talking about the Franks merging with other germanic tribe, the situation in the eastern part was simple that while the franks still existed in Rhine/Main area, the swabians and saxons for example also existed and once the last carolingian king died in East Francia they simply did not called the whole empire frankish, but the franks living in it did not diasappear. so not all germans are franks, but the rhine/main area are all their decendants. same example for Alexander the great, he was greek and macedon, but that doesnt make all greeks macedons. and the franks never commited a genocide on the gallo-roman population in gaul, so those who migrated (and again, not all migrated) simply mixed with the population already present there my ancestry goes directly back to some lower frankish nobility in rhineland, so yes i am frankish

@@sebe2255 The Franks became Latinized, first mostly by serving the Roman Empire and the rest by being conquered by the Merovingians. Clovis, founder of the Frankish kingdom, adopted Christianity and Latin as the language of the kingdom. The French language is a Latin language with Frankish pronunciations. Those who kept the Frankish Germanic language were those who did not follow Frankish/French rule and remained in the conquered lands, and therefore served the ennemies of the Franks
