I live in San Antonio and the video you showed of Arlington definitely looks like any typical American city or suburb including some of the ones where I live here. The only thing I will say about San Antonio is that we have older walkable neighborhoods and they have been creating a lot more walkable neighborhoods and connecting existing neighborhoods that are separated by streets with trails. Some of them even connect to parks, lakes, and rivers. The public transit could be better though and the TX government recently put an end to a project that would of turned a busy stretch of road into a more walkable and bike friendly area. The proposal included shops and restaurants but now we are getting a toll road in its place instead. Some States like the ones I live in lobby for gas companies to keep more people dependent on cars and buy more gas.

Well yeah, but most people in those towns in Maine and even in Boston still live in suburbia.

There is nothing wrong with suburbs the problem is car dependency and most suburbs suffer from that. However it seems like New England has held on to walkable places more so than other parts of the US & Canada.

@@Urbanplanningtransit7 I agree, suburbia can be combined with decent public transport. It's been done here in Norway. Oslo has a lot of flaws, it's ugly, dirty with graffiti and garbage everywhere, but it's like 2/3rds single-family homes (out of total area) and it's all covered by a metro system and trams. There are also commuter towns served by decently fast trains, up to 200 km/h.
