Both creators & Flightsim.to provide a fantastic service to the community. Hopefully still time to mend fences, trust in a relationship is the key, or has the damage already been done?

Great video and they seem to be following the path of all business today, do anything possible to increase $$$ while enhancing their own status and ignoring users. I agree with you Mark they bit the hand that feeds them. Once a business does this it is near impossible to recover.

I found it the opposite. Did you not see the entire video? They clearly needed money to fund the servers, but the programe was too aggressive and they made changes to put them on a better footing with the creators, that has to be applauded even though as Mark says it's reactionary and should have been considered upfront.

Well like everything else in this world, things do change for the worse and it is a Time Shall Tell how this 3rd party support will go. I don't have the Flight Simulator so I am just watching videos by the side line and what goes on. I am more of the Sim Racing group and it has evolved over the years. I hand it to all the good folks that put out so much effort making mods for MSFS but I don't understand how come I put a livery on a plane and then Microsoft flight sim won't load until I uninstall it out of my folder? it doesn't seem right to me.

As a (former) IT dev I well understand both sides of this issue. For a long time I provided valuable freeware until folks themselves suggested I sell it - but since I was dealing with a closed system (NOT MSFS) I could control things a lot better. Still, I supported the users of my freeware forever (well, until I retired but by then it was obsolete). Each dev needs to decide what their morals are in terms of this - they need to understand that giving away something is NOT something they can just then "walk away from" and generates a responsibility that they may not understand. It sounds like folks like Got Friends did not fully comprehend what their responsibility would have been and that's okay, too. We all learn as we grow - an unexamined life is not worth living. If I had been them I might not have CONTINUED to participate, but I certainly wouldn't have deleted all my content.

It was a mutual beneficial setup, but I understand flightsim to has grown beyond its capabilities and due to its popularity it now costs more to store and download.

USERS: Freemium model is common for software/services, and seems to be “economically stable” in helping hosts/providers gain (limited) revenue. CREATORS: This feels like Facebook - one can make data invisible, but it isn’t ever really purged, as far as i know. But even if content isn’t removed, going fwd could content-providers just integrate a “phone home” feature such that content isn’t usable if not authenticated during its initialization (“phone home”) ?

As an XBox user I cannot use any off-marketplace freeware for FS2020, but in general this relates to a familiar trend. Software that is completely free is going extinct, imo. In the long run that will not be bad, but I can imagine the PC side of FS2020 is shocked. Time will heal all wounds though. And freeware developers should go payware AND also include the XBox marketplace. 😊

When it was good and stable, they had to mess it up! I can't count the number of times I experienced this, be it at work, Gyms, restaurants, you name it! And I just got an email from Fly Away Simulation saying: "We have recently noticed an increase in developers looking for places to submit their freeware MSFS creations." with Q&A about the service, uploads and deletions!!

It's not about dev's wanting to host - it's about dev's wanting control of their creations...

The cat is out the bag, you know they want to do this and backtracking is a temporary until they win back the crowd then they will pull this again. Don't trust them.
