Why Garchomp is on 50% of Pokemon Teams
Competitive Pokemon
The new usage stats are out for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Garchomp has ERUPTED onto the scene. Ever since being subjected down into the UU tier Garchomp has been slowly rising into the ranks of dominance and now it is to the point of 50% usage within the UU tier. Let me know in the comments what you guys think of Garchomp in Gen 9!

Q: Where is the gameplay from?
A: Pokemon Showdown
Q: How are the sprites looking like generation 5?
A: Click the settings button and you can change the sprite display
Q: Why is the gameplay have the opponent being dumb?
A: Well surprise its me playing as the opponent as well and having Pokemon faint every 5 seconds isn't as fun as seeing the Pokemon do something in the battle for some time, which is why the gameplay seems like the opponent is braindead. Although I have taken some feedback and have tried to make it more interesting as possible without making the Pokemon faint every 5 seconds for hopefully better entertainment.

Yep Garchomp has fallen from grace, but is still thriving. Also you were wrong about both Ogerpon and Iron Treads, both are high usage now in OU. Lol freaking Excadrill fell to UU. My boy Skeledirge fell again but he will be back. I'm hoping Bolder doesn't fall off.

It’s bc its physical sets were nuked. Both in the sense of its movepool and its competition. It lost knock off and superpower, which were both good physical movesets. But also, if you want a strong physical attacking ground type, use Great Tusk. It does the job better, better versatility in move options and hits about as hard as lando t due to Headlong Rush and Close Combat. But more importantly than all of that, special is kinda better. Hits great tusk harder, hits arch harder (when it was in the tier), and id say most importantly, matches up very well into gouging fire

I like catching people off guard with banded garchomp because nobody expects you to rock up with a outrage when fairy types are around, and boy do I love it when people don't run fairy types.

Can you do a video about the reverse power creep of Gen 9? I think everyone and their mom knows Gen 9 mons are very minmaxed or have insane kits, but something a lot of people seem to overlook is the fact movesets finally lost their near-impossible legacy sets, and thus, versatile mons like Lando and Mew kinda lose a lot, or how Scald, Toxic, and Knock Off pretty much lost at least half of their users.

That's not reverse power creep mate. Thats straight up power creep. Not just lando and pex, Zapdos, Dnite, Blissey, Scizor, and a ton more all lost a ton of tools

That's more nerfing than power creep. Reverse power creep was gen 8, where the loss of z moves and megas meant the power level was way lower.

I mean part of the reason so many new sv pokemon are so good is because they were designed with tera in mind, meaning that their kit is better suited to the use of terastalisation, while many past staples had to experiment to find a good tera, many of the new sv mons have a definitive BEST tera, such as tera fairly kingambit, tera fighting gholdengo, tera flying garganacl, etc

I just started playing pokemon a year and a half ago because my family members were playing the mobile games like pokemon go. And I didn’t really ever get into pokemon because well… i didn’t have a desire to buy one of the games. But I did play pokemon unite because…… idk I just thought it looked cool. And I remember that my favorite pokemon back then was lucario because I used to played super smash and he was my main. So one day I had saved up enough in game currency to buy a new Pokémon in unite. And I was planning on getting lucario but ended up asking a family member about garchomp and they said, “oh yeah that Pokémon’s really strong” and I ended up taking the risk and bought him instead……. To this day…. I remember that moment as the day I met the love of my life. AKA garchomp is now my favorite pokemon. and he’s the reason I got into the fandom. And if anyone’s wondering the first actual main series game I bought was legends arceus and it didn’t disappoint! Now I’m a huge fan of the game franchise with a huge stash of garchomp figures and plushies! =D

Wait Zapdos and Tyranitar can't keep up anymore? That's a shame. They both had such long lasting legacies. Zapdos to this day is such a unique Pokémon that I never thought it would be fully pushed out.

TTar detests Great Tusk who genuinely ruins every set it would feasibly run. TTar's usualy only used for Sand Rush Excadrill, who itself isn't the most consistent thing around. Zapdos is unfortunate because it's still really good, but it gets wrecked by Iron Boulder and Raging Bolt means you have little reason to use Zapdos in many teams. Unlike TTar, you can use it to good sucsess, but Raging Bolt is just usually prefered due to Thunderclap. Believe me, I ain't happy about this either. Zap and Tar were my goats in gen 3 OU. Silver lining, they're doing much better in UU

Those were also genuinely 2 of my favorite Pokémon, so it was kind of validating to know they were both basically good from the very beginning to what seemed would be the very end. Also, for whatever reason the idea of Gchomp/Ttar/Excadrill da rude sandstorm teams constantly come into my head despite knowing damn well it's spotty. Thanks for the info, I'm really out of touch with battling. Especially after the DLCs dropped and the pool of Pokémon exploded.

@kefkapalazzo1 I absolutely hate when a Pokémon has a move or ability for so long and then loses it. If Tyranitar is doing so bad in this particular meta, then there was never really a reason to remove pursuit from it IMO. The second it loses it it goes from an ever reliable staple to not even being OU viable

It's shrimple. The people who don't know how to pilot it use the spikes stacking set, and the people who know what they are doing run the scale shot SD set with a Tera type to beat mandibuzz

Well, at least Meowscarada stays in OU. Otherwise, Garchomp would lose usage stats thanks to Meowscarada outspeeding the former, using Triple Axel to counter it. I’m theorizing out.

It's important to note that the premier fairies are ground weak tinkaton and Azumarill which don't generally ev on ph. Def unlike something like primarina or toge kiss which aren't in the tier/game who can ev on oh. Def significantly easier. Geezing is also not as splash able as those two. Ribombee is a good check but it is almost always lead or the very rare sr weak specs set so it ain't great either. The waters of the tier are a lot more offensive like gren keld and offensive mabapht while the bulkier ones like mabapht doesn't pack recovery or is slow king which is a decent check but not at all perfect. Foul play mandibuzz is the best most splash able defensive check.. Chomp is not broken though. The tier has very good faster scarfer like latios and kd aswell as embody aspect base ogerpon making sure chomp is fine. It's a lot like great tusk and previous gens Lando of ou

The state of the new ou really shows that Paradox Pokemon where a giant mistake. I dont like to sound like those fans that love complaining, but Paradoxes did not need to be this broken, they outclass even legendaries to the point of making them feel like your averege common Pokemon. And they made most pseudo legendaries feel like they're trash.

Fun Fact: The 4 best mons in uu viability wise (Garchomp, TornT, Latios, Zapdos) are all weak to ice Running tera blast ice on multiple pokemon per team is a viable strategy 💀

Garchomp is very good with its base stats, and ground dragon is a good combination leaving garchomp only 3 weaknesses and has great speed and damage to out speed pokemon with base speed of 100 since it has 102 Mega garchomp is considered worse cause it makes garchomp slower and players need its speed to sweep

Balance and stall.teams appreciate it's utility as a Wish passer with Regenerator. It's also one of the few pokemon with Scald which helps greatly detter physical attackers. And it isn't very reliant on tera at all, so you can usually go several games without needing to Tera

Latias its support movepool is just better suited for its stats compared to Latios'. Latios is usually HO throwing specs DMs. Latias could do that, but usually you take latios if that's your goal. But Dragon Spam ain't that useful right now so latias has more usage when Dragon Spam isn't needed for the metagame.

Latias have better versatility. In uu, Calm mind agility stored power latias was a cancer to play with, not to mention it can run weakness policy with its sufficient bulk.

OU this gen is so shit. Everyone rusn the same 4 broken mons. There is no creativity at all and its really boring. This is the first gen where i dont play out but just use the mons I like.
