I still can't find a job. The job I thought I would get didn't go through. I've been unemployed since April 3rd 2024. This has been a nightmare.

Most of the big players in tech let go of thousands of staff over the past several years. I think this was a combo of over hiring during the 2020 work from home era and the rise of more efficient AI -I think this trend will continue until some major breakthrough occurs.

Keeping current employees motivated seems a bogus reason, employed people dont go looking at linkedin job posts enough for that to matter. Only unemployed people look them over

I used to be a SQL developer (pretty much an on premises data engineer), but now working as a data analyst. I'm now learning cloud computing and azure services so that I can transition to a data engineer role. To me, it seems like there are many data engineer opportunities, so I don't know why you're having trouble. Are you picky when applying? Have you considered other roles such as a data analyst? I don't have any degrees and have about 5 years of experience as a data professional.
