With the leaking of 2 new reference tracks - one for Mob Ties, a classic record amongst Drake fans, and another reference track by PARTYNEXTDOOR - Drake is in a tough predicament.
He's fresh off the perceived Loss/ "L" from his beef with Kendrick Lamar, and is now being bashed online for barely making any changes to the reference track Vory created for Mob Ties. With that being one of Drake's biggest bangers in recent memory, the involvement of a ghostwriter adds a certain stain to his legacy. Seriously, if Mob Ties wasn't really from him, then how can I believe anything he does is legit? Absolutely no top rapper in the game needs "reference tracks" from other rappers. You're saying that it didn't happen, as if you're directly involved and have insider information. If that's not the case then your comment is based on your disbelieve that one of your idols may not be as gifted as he, and his corporate backing, makes 'em out to be. On another note, I write my own little rhymes and have never even gone as far as to use a rhyming dictionary because to me that's cheating. When I write it's my creation, something that I feel is awesome that came from my mind. There's a pride that comes with that. I say that to say that having someone else write your rhymes and passing them as your own is far from what hip hop is supposed to be. It's not only cheating but it either means that Drake can't write at all, can write but isn't good enough, or can write but this is solely a business (removing the actual art) and has a team to manufacture hits, because he can't do it himself. In my opinion, that doesn't embody the term artist.

@@lavante8157 dude has literally stolen his flows and you can listen to countless examples of others who have written his songs. he has entire sweatshop of ghostwriters. His biggest songs were definitely now written by him and more reference tracks keep surfacing. Dude should have just admitted from the jump that he didn't write his raps. And people don't judge Snoop or Dre because they don't talk to 14 or 16 or 17 yr old girls or get underage girls to sign NDA's.

What’s become clear in 2024 is what some of us have identified as early as 2009, and that’s the fact that dude is a good method-actor and entertainer, an MC is what he is not and should not be mentioned amongst the likes of KDot, Jay Cole, Jay Z, Nas, etc… Drake is a Pop-tart and that’s ok and there’s lots of money to be made in that lane as he as maximized, he just needs to stay inside the guard rails of that lane, otherwise he finds himself in deep waters in which he cannot swim in.

If you hit the reddits it’s mad Drake reference tracks. After we know, it kind of doesn’t matter. It doesn’t make us think Drake can’t rap. He believe he can rap, but nobody wants to give him full credit for his career if he was known for PEDs. It’s not like the MLB in the late 90s early 2ks because everyone had the PEDs. Drake is doing something different. He’s a rap POP star so it’s hard to be mad at him. He moves to the Kanye, Dr Dre, side of the GOAT list. Even though they weren’t ripping people off, so it feels less exploitative even if it’s the same thing.
