My issue is workload. I am a high performer. I provide timely, quality work. I always get the highest raises and bonuses. But then management will overload me with work and I end up quitting every single time. There’s only so much we can do as humans. And overworking your employees will make the good ones run far and fast.

When one door closes, you will find another one opens. Sometimes the hardships you may come across going through this transition can be a moment to reflect on yourself and your overall situation. Never give up. You will be just fine in the end. Nothing feels better than to tell your supervisors, to go fu©k themselves. Something we all want to do, but suppress on a daily basis. I quit my job for mental health reasons. I got great feedback from clients and colleagues. I was being paid reasonably well. In the end, there were too many broken promises. I knew I deserved more and I was never going to get it. I had to see other (less competent) people get promotions because of their connections. The atmosphere was also toxic. I left and have no idea when I will be able to get a job that pays anywhere near as much. But...I had to do it.

@@SharlenesJourney Yes, I was able to quit and I am glad I did, but I had been suffering from clinical burnout for quite some time before I quit. I honestly have no idea if or when I'll ever be able to go back to work. The best advice I could give someone is to leave as soon as a job starts getting bad. It will never get better and just continue to get worse. Prioritize your health and quit right away. Do not wait until you're suffering from burnout because you may never fully recover. It's an uphill battle and all for a paycheck.... what a waste. I wish I could go back in time and quit sooner or have never even worked there to begin with.

Health code violations, paychecks always wrong, scheduling errors, no benefits, no PTO, retaliation for calling off, working people 24 hours. We had a new supervisor every month or 3. It was awful. I quit my last job because of this exact reason. One day I walked into to work and I just couldn't take it anymore. So I quit without notice, yikes! Not the smartest move but I had enough... Looking back the only thing I regret about leaving that job was not giving proper notice. As after taking a break i am now looking to getting back in the job market and i am a bit worried as to how this will affect my job search. Wish me luck everyone:)

Giving notice would apply to an individual working in a position in a thriving culture. When the culture is brutal, toxic, rude, and uncaring-- you don't owe them one more second of the goodness that makes you a fabulous person. Pack your personal belongings and just politely excuse yourself. The freedom begins the moment you're no longer enslaved within toxicity!

My previous manager's leadership made me feel like I had the best job ever. His successor makes it feel like the worst job ever. We went from a culture with a flat hierarchy, open collaboration, and endless possibilities, to small, isolated silos, with the new manager creating a foggy, chaotic, goose chase where the focus of everything seems to be his needs before even the clients. It is shockingly difficult to get anything done in his image.

I’m so glad I stumbled across the TED talk. I am a female automotive technician. I rebuild transmissions. I have worked hard to learn what I have and to get to where I am now. I currently work for someone who micromanages everything I do. Nothing is ever good enough. I feel as though he is always looking for something I’ve done wrong and never notices all of the things I do right. One minute everything is fine and my boss and I are extremely close, the next minute he can be having a bad day and decide to take it out on me. I know that I am a good employee, I just feel like I am drained and have anxiety about going to work.

I’m working in a very busy restaurant to pay off my university debts. I’ve had people try to bully me and bring me down constantly but I’ve pushed through all the bull**** and I’ve now gone from bar work to full time server, which I make more money from tips. I’m using this as a survival job but I know I need to leave at some point to pursue what I really want to do. It’s making that decision to leave, I’ve never worked in a more f****** up work environment with such toxic people who have been given supervisor and assistant manager jobs. It’s really effected me mentally and I’ve burnt out. It doesn’t matter how strong you may think you are, a toxic work environment and gang mentality can really mess you up. I know I need to get out but watching this talk has really clarified what I’ve been thinking the past few months.

They trust in me, don’t manage me at all, and I in turn do honest work. I honestly think that my job just put so much thought and time into who they hire, that they know 100% how that person will work that it works so well.

Most leader today doesn't know how to lead. The wrong people are getting promoted. If your good at your job, you get overloaded with the expectation of doing your job and most of someone else's. No appreciation, little to no raises or bonus and in my case asked to continue working at this high level at a lower salary, then reading that upper level managers got huge pay increases. I QUIT! Thank You but no Thank You. As a company they talked about all the things she mentioned but it was only talk!

They treat you like a machine. Was told by a boss, people leave companies because they are impatient. NOT true! ppl leave when they stop growing and feel stuck but the company refuses to promote or create more opportunities. ppl will go where they are valued! only way to grow in today's world is to move companies

The current company I am working for is perpetually in survival mode and MYSTIFIED about why they can't keep employees or find new ones. They had me join a group of employees to discuss how we could improve the culture and not even one day in and I got "well melennials don't want to work". I basically stopped the meeting and said, "Correct...we don't wan to work for you.". The meetings fizzled out as quickly as they started. THEN my company wanted to conduct and employee survey. I got to personally go over the results with my company's leaders and the overall response was complaints about how "they couldn't give raises" or "should we just fire all of management?". After that meeting I left with this realization of there is absolutely no helping them. I'm not going to waste my own passion on a company that just wants affirmation in the things it does poorly.
