Hey Guys, What a shame that Greg Oden didn't pan out because of injury? Crazier that Kevin Durant became a legend...What if Oden didn't have two different sized legs? Thoughts & Opinions... Let me know what you guys want to see next? - M I K E

Guys, even if he did did pan out, do you really think he would be better than KD? Would he win MVP? Or carry his team to a championship? I don't think so because the NBA was transitioning from dominant big men in that time, big mistake by the Blazers, this is just as bad as Portland selecting Bowie over MJ, cause with Clyde Drexler they had an excuse in 1984, but none in 2007.

I had micro fracture surgery when I was 23ish.. I could pretty easily dunk and was fairly athletic. Micro fracture surgery is no fucking joke. I cannot even explain to you the difference in explosion. I went from feeling like 10ft rim was like..really low (I know this sounds weird now but I'm getting there) to after the surgery when looking at the rim of same height to honestly looking like it's 2ft higher. It's insane..your brain will like literally correct itself for your new un-athleticism. It will see that 10ft hoop and basically send warning signs that "you can't do that anymore". I could of course still jump and grab the rim..but I couldn't come close to dunking. For people who think once you're grabbing rim you're close to dunking....It's more like..when you can start to grab rim you have another 6-8 inches to go. I had a pretty serious ankle and foot injury before...and that shit didn't take away from my vertical at all...In fact somehow I came back from that surgery and was able to jump higher...But microfracture surgery..I now don't understand how ANYBODY ever comes back from that looking anything like they use to. But most don't anyway... TLDR: Microfracture surgeries are the worst.

I honestly think he would've worked out if it weren't for the whole different sized legs thing. He was very quick and strong and even had a little shooting in his game. Kevin Durant was also very weak. This is not an understatement, go ahead and look it up. This was a league where strength still mattered a lot. Also durant's defense was called into question, everyone knew that oden was very good at defense. (Also Kevin Durant said he was 6'7 or 6'9 so he could play small forward, so the whole height thing wasn't taken into account)

I’m probably one of the few that thought Durant was the better prospect. I remember watching him ball out in the McDonalds game. Then I saw him play at Texas and be just as great. I also thought that someone with that height and versatility was rare and better. I also know a little about physical therapy. Oden having different size legs meant knee and/or back problems his entire career. I said the same about Jared Sullinger, who has the same issue. I did not predict the foot issues though. People may not believe me, but I called it. Being from the Midwest, this was not a popular opinion, but I stuck with it
@drewmark3549

he was clearly a better prospect. The league just have a obsession on a big man with good body and athleticism. @@drewmark3549 KD was the first freshman to win ALL the player of the year awards. I think scouts were enamored with how good Oden was when he came back from that wrist injury, even though he didn’t look like he was 100% healed. I also remember wondering why it was even a question of who should have been the first pick that year. The red flags with Oden should have made him fall in the draft and that isn’t hindsight. Those team doctors that evaluated him had to know about the great potential injury with him, even he hand not had a major knee issue yet. NBA basketball is way more punishing on the joints than any other level of professional basketball

Great video, thanks for the upload, and I love your content! I don't wanna be that guy, but 1 minor mistake, Oden and Conley Jr played high school ball at Lawrence North not North Central. Just thought I'd mention that. Other than that I loved seeing all the stats in this video. It's a shame he never panned out. Just goes to show that NO prospect is ever a guarantee to succeed in the pros.

You touched on the concerns people had with Durant. The skill was there, but scouts and GM's were worried he wouldn't put on the weight to be able to handle the physical grind. He also couldn't handle the bench press exercise during his work out. So a supposedly 6'9 wing that was too slow to play the 3 and too weak to play the 4 or the monster center that could come into the league and contend for DPotY.

I remember watching Greg Oden play against Florida in the National Championship. I was 8 years old then. I just remember how amazed I was watching him in that game. It really is a shame that G.O. didn’t have the long NBA career everyone thought he was going to have. He would have been a legend.

I really didn't expect to be hit so hard by this, but whenever you said he was done bc of injuries at the age of just 22 I couldn't help but cry a little bit. I'm 22 and have always loved basketball, I can't imagine how depressing it must have been to know that you could have been one of the all-time greats but your dreams came crashing down because of something you couldn't control... that's absolutely devastating. I've always felt bad for the guy but damn.

Greg was the next great big man. If healthy he would have been a HOF'er. He had 13 points, 20 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 4 BLOCKS the game before his injury in Dec 2009. This man would make Joel Embiid cry. All you need to know about how good Greg was was finding the video of his first NBA points. An offensive rebound, and pivot step to 2 HANDED JAM vs the Miami Heat in MIAMI in the 08/09 season. ODEN was a bigger Bill Russel.
