Maguire began his career in movies like Pleasantville and Ride With the Devil in the '90s. He came to prominence when he starred in the critically acclaimed movies The Cider House Rules and Seabiscuit, before reaching superstardom as Spider-Man.
Maguire’s glory days seem to be far behind him, even though he is talented enough to make a Hollywood comeback. But here’s why Hollywood won’t cast him anymore.

"The Amazing Spiderman" was one of those movies that never should've been made. There was nothing wrong with Toby McGuire's performance in neither of the 3 movies & they should've kept with it. They killed it by using that shit actor & re-doing the story with that 4th movie, absolutely pointless. They killed it. Not Toby, Toby was perfect.

i don't get why a lot of people bash on spiderman 3..i saw the movie in a premiere and all 4 cinemas were packed. come the regular showing schedule, long queues even at 30mins to 1 hour before the movie ends. personally, i loved it. even bought original VCDs of all 3 movies. (DVD was still expensive that time and i was just a teenager lol) anyway, i'm going to rewatch them later but a bluray from yify this time..xD ps. i think it's better that spiderman's web comes out of his body and not some sort of machine..lol

petkannaa I don't think Toby was a better anything. The way he's portrayed in raimis films is such a corny and uninteresting version of spidey. The Garfield on is based on the best version from the comics. I don't think he's bad I just think it's raimis idea of spidey I dislike

finally I see a comment like this, respect! So many people are saying they like the new spiderman because the girls think he's attractive and the boys say he's a better actor....but tobey because of his look is supposed to be the friendly neighbourhood guy, Andrew Garfield's face made it look like they cast him so he would have a more modern spiderman look that would attract everybody instead of making it about the story.

+Batnat That's one of the things I liked most about that subway scene. It did a really good job of subtly showing Peters change of attitude, and his complete lack of empathy. Same with the scene where him and Harry were fighting in his apartment. It was kind of cheesy, but I remember feeling genuinely sorry for Harry, with how brutal and unsympathetic Peter was, making fun of him, calling him a daddy's boy, throwing the grenade in his face, etc. "Aaaww. Look at the little Goblin Junior. You gonna cry?". People seem to only remember the goofy stuff with the black suit, like him dancing around and whatnot lol. There was alot of great things about that movie though. But like OP said, I think people's expectations were just too high.

Sony is very forward thinking when it comes to their franchises. Spider-Man was built on strong critic and fan responses. When the critics say no they shutter franchises in a hurry. Look at Amazing Spider-Man 2. Same thing. Did just fine at the box office, wasn't an altogether horrible movie (akin to Spider-Man 3), but felt very generic and uninspiring.

Spider-Man 3 didn't ruin his career it's just that he's more of a producer and is more of a family man, he wants to be less of an actor that grabs roles that he can and he grabs roles that he thinks will benefit him. He's still awesome.

I don't understand the comment about his role in The Great Gatsby. The entire point of Nick Carraway is that he's young, naive and (comparatively) innocent, which is partly why he gets so swept up in Gatsby's world. I thought Toby Maguire aced that role, and honestly he's my favourite version of Nick so far.

In my opinion, Spider-Man 3 wasn't that bad. It created awful criticism and emo-spider became a meme. However, the plot and scenes with the movie was well done. It included 3 villains: Venom, sand man, and goblin. I loved the movie and to all the haters: 🖕

I agree somewhat, Spiderman 3 wasn't that bad of a movie to me as people say. Only problems with it were the Venom plot, the kinda rushed Sandman plot, and Black-Suit Spiderman was pretty underwhelming.

If they had just stuck with Sandman, the film would have worked a lot better. Apart from the unnecessary Uncle Ben retcon, Sandman was actually the best character in the film. Sadly we got yet another Goblin and a very poor iteration of Venom alongside him. Plus the emo scene.. *shudder*
