Before I moved out on my own to a studio, I was blinded by my sins. Being addicted to pornography was one of them. I always believed in Jesus, but I dont think I was truly born again until about 2 years ago. When I moved out on my own, I found a Bible that I had packed. (My family owned many Bibles, but I never really read the Bible growing up). It was a New Living Translation Bible. I began reading and God really spoke to my heart. He convicted me of my sins and taught me how to have a personal relationship with Him. I developed a more prayerful life and a new desire to read His word. I now have a new desire to follow Jesus and surrender everything to Him. Though I slip into sin, the Holy Spirit guides me to ask for forgiveness and to put my eyes back on Jesus. I believe God used the time I spent alone living in my studio to get to really know Him through His word, and the Bible I read was the New Living Translation....I believe God speaks to people in different ways and not just through only one translation.

Yah...im not sure your family's exact beliefs or much about the Pentacostal denomination....but there are unfortunately many people who "practice" religion under the title Christian, but their hearts are far from God. Jesus said we can know people by their spiritual fruit.....what matters is if someone is truly born again...that they are a new creation in Christ. Im sorry of the situation you are in...ill definitely be praying for you...whatever situation youre in right now, God can use it for good in the future...seek Him and read His word, and ask God for direction...i will be praying for you....it is very sad corruption has filled our churches...seems to be getting worse

@@mrobin1987 I'll be honest many KJVo people are genuinely saved so don't get me wrong. However, their idolatry of the KJV, at least on the extreme end, makes them apostate churches. They ALWAYS make KJV a salvation issue and always are self righteousness. We all know how Jesus and John the Baptist treated legalistic self righteous people. When I was a new Christian my church switched from kjv, to nasb, to niv and so on. I had memorized in kjv and when witnessing I would quote a verse and then the other versions wouldn't say the same thing when I turn to the verse in their bible versions. Ted A.

Well when you are so invested in the corruptions of other Bibles it's easy to understand why! KJV have not only commitment to the Words of God but Doctrine, and when you tae your doctrines from a corrupted book you can end up falling for wrong doctrine. The doctrine of hell fire for example, a lot of Christians are convinced that hell doesn't exist. I prefer be mean and be honest and stick with my position, instead of deceive you with flattery. But I agree that can be pretty over the top in some circunstances. Personaly, I try to be caring towards other people. However, my faith and my position is not based at how people treat me. Is based in what God says. Closed minded is a great thing, as long you are closed minded to God Jesus Christ the Son and Holy Spirit.. No wonder the Bible says to separate ourselves from the world. The world is full of lies!

Interestingly, at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit did not change the ears of the crowd so they could understand the apostles speaking in their native language. Instead he gave the gift of tongues to the believers, so the crowd could hear, and understand the gospel in their own language. “And many were added to their number that day.”

When the Bible is translated into other languages do the translators go back to the KJV or the original manuscripts. For example, if a scholar was going to translate the Greek or Hebrew into Spanish they wouldn’t go consult the KJV. Obviously they would go back to original manuscripts. So why then when we translate the Bible into English do people insist that only the KJV can have the “right” translation? That line of thinking is inconsistent and obscure. I’m not sure the logic of you brining you Acts 2. By your logic you should be able to listen to the Bible in French and let the HS translate it for you in English. I’m not denying the gift of tongues in that passage, I’m just saying that what Matt is talking about and what you wrote here are not even comparable. Translating has nothing to do with the gift of tongues at Pentecost, giving understanding to the hearers.

Thank you, Pastor Matt, for this great video. In the beginning, I wondered whether I agreed with your three-pronged definition of KJVO, but after the video I ended up agreeing. At first I thought the definition was far too extreme. However, I think now that it is actually very helpful and careful. Specifically, your definition of KJVO excludes those who hold to the superiority of the KJV yet do not hold to the idea that it is superior even to the Greek and Hebrew. It also excludes those who do not disparage people for using other translations. An excellent example of this kind of person is actually the man whose book you have lying on the desk behind you-Dr. Joel Beeke. He is someone who holds very strongly to the superiority of the KJV, yet is a man so full of grace and humility that I could hardly characterize him as KJVO. Thanks again for your work, brother!

Good video. Don’t worry. I won’t beat you up. I like the KJV but I primarily use the LSB. The LSB is probably going to be the last translation I will buy because I own a good selection of conservative translations. We would do well to support ministries that are trying to get the Bible out to non-English speaking countries that need a Bible. A few years ago the church I go to had one of our missionaries on a Sunday night. He pastors a church in Italy. I asked him how Italian translations are available in Italian. He stated four. We have way more English translations than we need, some good, some not good. We should really put a greater effort to get Bibles out to people who don’t have one, meaning non-English. Thank you for this video. One more thing. (I keep adding to my comments.). When my wife and I lived in Alaska, we were told to try a church not far from us. I made the decision not to go there because the church’s website advertised KJV 1611; I doubt it actually used the 1611 version because it’s so unreadable today. The same church said the KJV was God’s choice for the English speaking world. That’s false advertising.

About 6 to 7 months ago I decided to make some changes in my life to better myself. Getting closer to God was one of them. So I bought a KJV Bible to read. I really wanted to understand it so bad. But because of the old, and outdated language used in it I had a hard time understanding it. It has words in it that are no longer a part of the English language, and words that the meaning of them have changed over the centuries which make it hard to understand. I'm not against the KJV. If you can understand it great, read it. But after 3 weeks to a month of struggling with the KJV, I purchased a 95 reference NASB Bible. I can understand it better. I just want to read the Bible to understand about God's past. Not to go through the Bible word for word and scrutinize words or phrases that you disagree with. That is a bit too much in my book. I have learned alot from my 95 NASB Bible, and it suites my needs very well

I remember one time I left a comment on a KJVO video where I used every single KJVO argument presented in the video except four the Modern English Version which is a majority text Bible like the KJV but with modern language. I’m not entirely proud for inciting verbal violence in the comment section that day but at the end it did prove my point that most KJVO arguments are very subjective, emotional and often grounded in conspiracy which you can virtually apply to just about anything. That day also taught me that just because you may be angry and passionate about something doesn’t mean you’re right about it. There are times where I almost can’t consider my IFB KJVO brothers and sisters as genuinely Christian because of the rotten fruit that they often bare. But only God can judge that. May God always work in us to help us to overcome our misguided zeal in all stages of our life; KJVO or otherwise. Lord Jesus forgive us when we honor you with our lips but our hearts are far from you.

Wow didn’t know that about The Lords character did you? It’s not all about you getting along with people, it’s about The Lord 1st and foremost and His word and then you’ll get along and have unity. Not compromising so everyone can get along. I have faith of what God said, my emotions have nothing to do with faith. It’s the exact opposite. KJV only’s are ZEALOUS over Gods word because it is the perfect word of God. We don’t appreciate people who attack it.

@@ThePreachersDaughterKJV1611 My friend, zeal is no excuse for ignorance and the one who is zealous without knowledge sins (Proverbs 19:2). The Jews were zealous for God, but missed the gospel. (Romans 10:2) Peter was zealous for Jesus by cutting off the ear of the high priests servant but was rebuked for it (Mark 14:47) and Apollos was zealous for the Gospel but still needed instruction from Priscilla and Aquila (Acts 18:24 -26). It is foolish, my friend, to think that you are above correction because of your zeal. As I said in my comment, KJVO arguments are subjective and emotional and you, like many other before, have proved that to me once more. I encourage you, my friend, as I do with myself in these matters to consider the possibility that you may be incorrect in your view. Prudent humility is far better than ignorant zeal. I’m not even encouraging you to abandon the KJV as it still holds up as a treasure in the line of God’s word to the world. I simply encourage you to not ridicule, mock and revile others simply because they are not convinced that the KJV is the only perfect translation of God’s word. I personally came to the truth of the gospel through the NIV which taught me of my sin before a Holy God who loved me so much that he sent his Son to die as a sacrifice of atonement on my behalf and that faith in his name and perfect work on the cross will lead me to everlasting life. If the Devil was the one who inspired all of these modern bible version, then he did a terrible job because I still came to an accurate understanding of the gospel message as Christ the Son of God came, lived, was buried, rose again and ascended to the right hand of the Father and will one day return to judge the living and the dead.

Thanks for this video Pastor Matt. Really appreciate your civilized ways to present your conclusions. A similar thing happens to us Spanish speakers (I live in Honduras)... People insult others because they read such and such translation, calling them names, etc. There are even entire series preached over several weeks and months telling the congregation why everyone else is either satanic or a false prophet, or just plain stupid, instead of preaching Christ, and Him crucified... They are forming modern-day pharisees and saducees, not disciples. It is sad because It only hurts the body of Christ and gives non-Christians and backsliders a reason to reject Christ. Jesus preached love for one another, and some of these brothers are preaching hate one another... Thanks again! Blessings to you, your family and for your work in the Kingdom.

For the most part “missing” words in ESV are italicized in the KJV, which means that they are not in God’s revealed Word, but were ADDED to the KJV for clarification. In other instances, the “missing” word is simply placed in a different word order, so that the word order is more compatible with how we speak today vs old English.

That is one major flaw of the ESV. It does not italicize interpolated words of the translators. Perhaps because it is not as literal as advertized similar to the NASB who is also not that literal. KJV/NKJV/NASB do italicize those.

There is no better guide, teacher and helper than the Holy Spirit but sadly, the KJ bible is supernaturally changing. There are thousands of changes that have taken place right under our noses in the KJ bible. This is where it’s mind blowing that KING JAMES bible ONLY believing pastors and watchmen, do not see these wicked changes taking place, instead.... they defend it. Do they even know who they are defending? It's Satan! Also, there are many SAVED Christians in Christ Jesus that do not see these changes. Clearly, these are the Bible Prophecies Unfolding!! Read Amos 8:11-12 KJB, Daniel 7:25 KJB and 2 Thess. 2:8-11 KJB. Revelation 22:10 KJB - And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. (It's already at hand folks, do you see that verse in Rev. 22:10 KJB where it says "SEAL NOT"?)!! The STRONG DELUSION has arrived. ARE YOU AWAKE TO SEE IT? The KJ bible is the BEAST, looking right at you when you read it. Satan has been using his abilities supernaturally according to the rules of engagement and some of these moves has been supernaturally changing the King James bible. Satan inspired all the counterfeit and corrupted modern English versions and the Holy Spirit inspired men and women of God to defend and teach from the King James Bible as the only preserved, inspired, and inerrant written Word of God. Don't know how many decades Satan has supernaturally been changing the King James, but I think it's been in correlation to the amount of Satanism and witchcraft by man to participate with his kingdom, fighting God's Kingdom. So, when more doors into the occult were opened when CERN came online because witchcraft is part of the operation of all the LHC's (The Large Hadron Collider - CERN), the amount of supernatural attacks has occurred on God's written Word in the KJB. "I'm sure that most of you already know about this change. But did you know specifically why a WOLF has replaced the Lion in Isaiah 11:6 KJ bible? It's because God in His great mercy is warning you that Satan is on the loose, and that he is trying to dwell with you. By this change, God is also warning those with eyes to see that the bible has been tampered with. There are thousands more of these wicked bible changes. Held under the scrutiny of the Holy Spirit, these changes are also cryptically praising Satan, homosexuality, cannibalism, sexual vulgarity and antichrist blasphemy." Quote from Truth Shock TV It just proves that we must be very close to the end of the church age of Grace, Jesus Christ is coming very soon for His Church (SAVED BELIEVERS in the Body of Christ). God's word is written and hidden in our hearts forever!! John 1:1 KJ bible - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. As you see in this verse, it does NOT say, in the beginning was the bible.... now does it? NO!! It's through the kj bible, Satan is deceiving many; this will include many who are kj bible only believing pastors, watchmen, watchwomen and members of a church, who never personally embraced Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, who is Jesus Christ, who IS the Word but is embracing the bible more than the Word, who IS Jesus Christ. Do not give power to a mere book written in ink on paper and do not make it your idol and your god. Rev. 18:4 - And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (Jezebel the harlot/Babylon). That's the kj bible that has supernaturally changed and it's now, Satan's territory. There is ONLY one God and He is our Creator, the Almighty God whom we need to worship and trust ALWAYS, Amen!! Here is a message for lost souls - 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, SAVES lost souls, please read it and BELIEVE truly from your heart How that Christ died for our sins, He was buried and He rose on the third day according to the scriptures!! Please get saved now before it's too late for your soul!! Heaven and Hell are REAL, LITERAL places. 1 ETERNITY to choose from, HEAVEN or HELL, choose wisely for your soul. Grace and Peace to all in Jesus Christ!!

I completely agree with you here. I actually used to be KJV-Only, but after considering what the other side has to say about the issue, I realised how baseless and bad the arguments are for saying that the King James Bible is the only translation we should use. Another problem with their position is that the Church existed almost 1,600 years without the KJV, so are we supposed to believe that the church didn't have the true Word of God, until the King James translators came in to fill that gap? The fact of the matter is, the church has always had the scriptures, so we don't need the KJV to say that we have the Word of God in front of us. Also, KJV-Onlyists like to argue that the Textus Receptus agrees with the majority of Greek manuscripts and that that should be our standard for determining the original text, and yet, there are actually times where the T.R. disagrees with the majority text, like in the Book of Revelation (e.g. the majority text says "tree of life" instead of "book of life" in Revelation 22:19). While I do love the KJV, there are definitely problems with saying that it's the only translation we should use. Mike Winger did a great video explaining why the Critical Text disagrees with the Textus Receptus in this video. It was actually one of the things that made me change my mind on this issue: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZaGeJqXkqnef4U.html

I don’t like having to ferret out the archaic language in the KJV. It is a beautiful translation if one is willing to use a Strongs concordance. I prefer the ESV, NASB, and NKJV in that order. Very nice video. Your approach is very irenic. We don’t need any more infighting in the body of Christ.

I order a different translation every year to use for my morning read through of the bible that year. Never found a translation to latch onto like so many people do. I wasn't raised in a Christian home, so I think that has a lot to do with it. I read the NIV through my teenage years, then started my practice of reading a different translation every year.

I think I find myself way on the opposite side of the KJVO proponents! The first time I encountered the KJVO argument, I thought it was the most wacky thing thing I had ever heard. English is not my first language and I was trying to picture my grandmothers reading the Bible without understanding a word. What struck me as really odd, was that the arguments centered around the translation, not the Greek manuscripts. That is like starting on the middle rung of a tall ladder! Also, why would God not provide us with his Word until 1500-1600 years after the church was born. As a translation among many, I can respect and appreciate the KJV. It is not a good translation for me. While I read English just fine, the language of KJV still puts a barrier between me and the meaning. I will contend myself with appreciating KJV through quotes as heard in Handel’s Messiah. I prefer to read a variety of translations. Each time I start over reading the Bible, I pick a different version and/or language. It prevents my brain from falling asleep while reading. I have not researched the LXX much or adequately to say much about it, but I get the impression it does differ from the Hebrew Old Testament. Yet, it was the Scripture Jesus and the disciples felt comfortable quoting and using. I presume the meaning was the same, even if the wording did not match. I appreciate this video. I just wanted to post my initial reaction to encountering KJVO.

Well done, Matt. I do think that you described the vast majority of lay advocates of KJV-Onlyism. They are very confused, at best, about the relationship of the English to the Hebrew and Greek. At worst they are Ruckmanites who believe that the English of the KJV is itself perfect (against the explicit views of the KJV translators as recorded in their preface). But the official, mainstream, usually IFB KJVOs-represented by institutions like Pensacola Christian College, West Coast Baptist College, Ambassador Baptist College, Crown College of the Bible, and many smaller places-have spokesmen who are more careful than that, who say that it's the Hebrew Masoretic Text and Greek Textus Receptus that are perfect. They'll usually even acknowledge that the KJV is imperfect and/or not "inspired," though they won't mention any specific imperfections. =) I'd love to see another video aiming at these more responsible KJV-Onlyists! They do exist. And I think a lot of them are reachable, precisely because they already see a distinction between text and translation. Great video!

I would probably be labeled, "KJVO", which is fine. I am not offended by the term. And I definitely empathize with you Bro. Matt about your experiences with some within the KJVO camp. I don't advocate that behavior at all, and it's not a compelling argument for the King James, as far as I am concerned. The KJV position can be established by logical inference, and good cogent, and coherent reasoning. I do find that the same behavior and characteristics of "non-KJVO" folks as well - but that doesn't make me reject their position. I would rather deal with the actual arguments than the people making the arguments. I do appreciate your video, and the insight it provides. I have read James White's book, and several other positions that are the antithesis to my belief about the KJB, and I do see a lot of logical (both formal, and informal) fallacies committed as well from their perspective. Arguments that do not follow, a lot of circular reasoning, and faulty appeals to authority, among many. However, I think one of the most prevalent fallacies committed by those that oppose the KJVO is strawman. They often misrepresent the foundational basis of my position - that I believe there is a perfect, pure, infallible, and inerrant Bible today. With all that said, I have written down notes on your video, so that I am careful not to misrepresent you myself, which, Lord willing, I can use to help my students truly understand the challenges to our position and formulate good logical reasons for why we believe what we believe. (1 Pet. 3:15; Col. 4:6). BTW, I am the son and brother of missionaries, and am a strong proponent of global, world-wide missions. I have both financially, and physically invested in global missions work for the last 38 years - which does include translation work. I believe any good KJVO proponent would support this position if they were honest with this approach and consistent biblically.

As a bilingual person (Spanish is my first language from Puerto Rico, USA) I found the KJV kind of difficult to understand since the grammar and the and the syntax of the old English is different from the modern English. Sometimes I had to read the same passage over and over again a few times and compare with the Reina Valera, 1960 version, which is the equivalent of the KJV in the Spanish language. The original one was published in 1569 in Basel, Switzerland by a Spanish ex-catholic monk that converted to Lutheranism. It had gone through a few revisions including 1977, 1995 and 2011. So we are not as fanatic as the KJVO when it comes to make the Bible understandable to newer generations. I had some encounters with some people on the KJVO camp including in a white American church that I preached to for almost 6 years and found that is more like a cult for the most extremists people into it. I agree with you in the way that they are very narrow minded, fanatical and unwilling to learn anything else and also not forgiving or accepting of others that don’t think like them. I started using the ESV which very close to the KJV but with a more easier to understand English. I also use several other translations in Spanish and English at the same time which is a joy to do since it clarifies much more the meaning within the context. So for either younger generations or non native English speaking people other translations are so useful in the study of the Scriptures. As you can see that exclusivity that they assign to the KJV hinders the learning and teaching of the Scriptures to millions of people not only in the US but all over the world. I have the KJ alongside seven other versions and definitely the KJ have a special quality and beauty in the language that is was written originally but in the introduction to 1611 edition the translators recognized with humbleness that all the previous versions were used by God the blessed the people in different ages. They also recognized that their own version was open to be revised even further for a better understanding of the Word of God. The introduction is available online for anybody who wants to read it, specially for the KJVO followers so that they can learn some humility from the original authors if possible. Just my two cents. God bless y’all.

Hello friend! You can start with any Bible translation. But you need a really good steel sword to fight, to grow strong for years and years... You will be steeled. So you don't need an iron or plastic sword anymore. It's not enogh. Don't be limited with a fastfood, which is Critical text's Bible translations are, and even Masoretic text. Read Tyndale's New Testament and Brenton's Septuagint (real Old Testament). KJV is changed Tyndale's Bible. KJV is politicized a bit by the king, and has a bit some clergy's own teachings. It's a problem almost of all Bible translations. Such Christians like Tyndale* make real close to Original Bible translations. * independent to political powers, money and clergy. "Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world" John 18:36.
