When my kiddo was 12, I started telling her to give me half of her birthday money and new year money. If it was uneven, she got the bigger half. She DID protest, of course because, you know, theft. I then put all of that aside for her and let her know where it was, even had a paper with trackers. When she went to college, I handed it all back to her. She used it on whatever she needed throughout college and was all "I really would have spent it on crap back then, so thanks." But that's not common, I know.

I've seen several parents like this. I can't understand. It always upset me. The one took my friends money for clothes when he was rushed to the hospital in another city. So my friends dad had to buy him clothes when we went to visit. My mom still tries to give me money even when I have plenty.

While my family helps to keep tabs on my money, my money is mine, ultimately. It is neither spent lavishly nor hoarded. It is used where needed and when needed. Granted, I have ASD and live on federal assistance, but I am no total fool with money.

Thankfully, my parents never did this when I was younger. Then again I've never once borrowed money from them or scratched their car, I was always careful and frugal when I was a child. I kept my money in my own piggy bank and when, after all the red envelopes received at New Year, the piggy bank was full we went together to the bank to put it safe in my savings account.

Yep once my mom did that too I gave my money to her because i didnt had anywhere to put that but i never got that back I gave her about 6 thousands INR 🙄🙄 when i asked my money back she said she spent all that money in my education 🙂🙂 so i used to said things like "once i deposited my money in a bank , but bank was fraud ,they never returned my money"😂😂 from that day even if i give her money to keep for something she refuses😂😂 well you can also use it too maybe it would help you

I haven't seen this at all in Filipino culture, it is very different. There are no red envelopes so the children must invent other ways to come up with the money their parents need. So if you are a white guy looking for a Filipino lady, make sure she is orphan..😅
