I remember after Magneto stripped the adamantium from Wolverine's bones, Professor X erased Magneto's memory, and Magneto was de-aged into "Joseph," who was good- but wasn't, because "Joseph" was a clone who eventually sacrificed his life when the REAL Magneto went "If I can't have [Planet Earth], no one can!" God, the 'X-Men' comics were a mess at the turn of the century, even without the 'Heroes Return' arc where Marvel tried to reboot ALL non-mutant heroes.

AOA was hugely popular when it happened in 1995 and is still the most well known X story in the 90s. As for why the toys didn’t sell is mainly because it’s a story that happened 30 years ago and was never fully adapted to a movie, show or game to reach that next generation audience to carry it.

Respect to your opinion as you're definitely speaking from a place of sincerity, but the AoA saga was not only widely acclaimed, but also widely loved by the majority of comic book collectors then... and now. It was the height of 90's x-men story arcs; better than anything that came before it (in the 90's), and better than everything that came after it (again, in the 90's) The books sold great, the saga continue to have an amazing legacy and it gave collectors very very interesting alt versions of characters they have come to love over those years. Gambit & The X-ternals, Amazing X-Men, Generation Next --they were fantastic reads. The stuff that came after is where you see the decline of the x-books, and that begins to happen around the conclusion of the Onslaught saga. Just when the original 'Heroes Reborn' story line started. Eugh. The books were largely mediocre from then until Joss Whedon started up his run of "Astonishing X-men", then the 2000's were a renaissance of quality x-books; House of M, Decimation, Grant Morrisons entire run, Messiah Complex, Second Coming, The Dark Angel Saga, Utopia etc. were fantastic peak x-men reads. I'm curious to know why you don't like them as you're definitely in the minority there, however I do know a few people who say they didn't like it because they didn't know how to get into it, so maybe it's that? The Marvel AoA figurine line you're talking about that didn't sell... that's because casuals today have no idea what the AoA is. They only know it in 'reference', but ask any of them about specifics of the saga and they go quiet. They're kinda normies who don't really know much about x-men before the 2010's, except for what they google research & pretend to know online where they can better hide their lack of source material knowledge, so you can't expect them to buy that toy line; its culturally irrelevant to them, but not to GenX. we ate that shit up. :) ✌😎

@@Linklex7 Honestly I was never a huge fan of the Onslaught Saga. I began collecting the books as you normally do for the first half and lost interest near the middle & stopped. It wasn't until the story was finished and the Omnibus collection was out, that I revisited the saga again. It's quite good, but man it's not an easy read. To this day my Onslaught collection is only half complete. I actually have more books from Spidey's Clone saga (because Ben Reilly is the boss), than Onslaught ---and that was the most convoluted thing to come out of the 90's. 😂😂😅

AOA is likely not the next season. For one they already kind of did this arc in TAS with the episode One Man's Worth. The writers would also have to kill off professor X again which would be redundant since we just ended season 1 with his return. The next logical season is likely the Onslaught Saga which is where the feral Wolverine storyline crosses into.

As a legit OG fan and collector of "Wolverine" comics, we need to clarity some things here my friend. Here's a crash course in what happened to Logan after he lost his adamantium (X-Men Vol 2 #25) - according to the comics. First off, objectively speaking The "Age of Apocalypse" storyline was a HUGE hit in the late 90's - X-Men "Alpha" & "Omega" were BIG sellers at the time and not just because of the shiny etched chromium covers. Remember Marvel was also still competing with DC's "Reign of the Supermen" and "Batman: Knightfall/Knightquest" fallout, it had serious competition. You're right, the AOA action figures (at the time) didn't do so well mostly because they looked hideous AF - but the comics were VERY successful for X-Men and the other X-Titles at the time. I know, I collected them. The fallout between Wolverine & Cyclops being a BIG selling point mostly because Logan and Jean were finally together and there was the mystery of his missing hand. Then there was Magneto & Rogue's reveal of having a kid together. Wolverine also did NOT go immediately "feral" after losing his adamantium in X-Men #25. Wolverine #75 was the origin of his "bone claws" but he was very much normal after adapting to them and choosing to leave the X-Men (via a note he left for Jubilee) at the end of the issue. Logan didn't "go feral" until Wolverine #100 after Genesis (Cable's son) tried to force giving his adamantium back to him with an accelerated technique (from Cyber's stripped down skeleton - yikes) and he rejected the bonding process, then went ape$#!t and killed everyone involved before going AWOL as a noseless primate based beast of sorts as a side effect from the failed experiment. Elektra showed up to knock some sense into him in Wolverine #103 (i.e. gain back his humanity) and the whole thing was DROPPED including his "feral beast" appearance after Wolverine #111. THANK GOD. Logan didn't actually get his adamantium back until Wolverine #145 which is so vaguely explained, it happened "off screen" and he literally just shows up with it under some kind of mind control BS by Apocalypse who tried to make him "Death" as part of his plan to reform his Four Horsemen. It was a really STUPID plotline at the time. Before X-Men '97 can even reach that far into the timeline, it has to go through the (first) "Onslaught" Saga first and I would put money on them going in that rushed direction next season before AOA. They will no doubt go the AOA route before this series is done, but more than likely it will be set up for Season 3. Marvel is aiming for at least FIVE seasons of X-Men '97. I may not be an authority on all things comics, but I DO know my "Wolverine" lore, bub!

That was to sell figures. Felt cheap. No reason to change costumes, not storm, not jubilee, etc. changing costumes was literally a warning sign to look out for when we were waiting for trailers, and they have continually done so, throughout the series, and im sure by the end of the next episode, the entire team will be split, so it’s the same thing as Heman just waiting to the second season to unveil it. Im not saying it’s bad, and the show seems to be building towards onslaught, but I think it’s building towards dumber things. Like Apocalypse all of a sudden acting like he wants to be a savior of Mutant culture, and not the culling off maniac he is, mutant segregation, Hope Summers, everyone is Phoenix utter bs that was in recent comics. If they do that, the show is done. We were a fan of the original show, of the Jim Lee costumes, they matter. Doesn’t mean we have to be fans of every story in the comics. Let’s save the no true scotsman crap eh? If you only saw the original xmen cartoon, what is nostalgic about these older costumes? Nothing, that’s what.

I enjoyed this episode and still have faith in the series. Who’s to say they can’t fix Onslaught with the adaption? We’ve seen this with Iron Man in he Civil War movie which made him a lot less evil and villain like than the original comic did. Who’s to say they have to keep moving forward in the 90’s comic timeline? They could adapt God Loves, Man Kills (Stryker made an appearance), Lifedeath happened in the comics long long ago, but the series just adapted it. I’m not ready to give up on the show cause of one episode, which honestly I didn’t think was bad . . . except for not explaining how Xavier is a cripple again. As for Age of Apocalypse? I never heard many folks hating it, it’s kinda the definitive Apocalypse storyline, but they kinda already did it anyway. They had that two parter with Storm and Wolverine from an alternate future where Xavier died. Apocalypse wasn’t the villain but it was the same concept.

I don't watch this show for nostalgia. I watch it because the writing is good. If it goes bone claw Wolverine or Age of Ultron, I don't care as long as the writing holds up. This episode was good for the most part, but I felt it tried to be too dramatic in places--especially early in the episode. When Professor X tried to explain himself to Scott, I'm thinking, "Don't you have bigger concerns now?" Or when Jean and Storm are having a heart to heart while sentinels are firing on the Blackbird, I'm thinking, "Just go, Storm! You're about to get blown up!" Sure, the X-men fighting Magneto was a highlight of the episode, but so was fighting Bastion. I don't know what's wrong with it. Magneto recruiting Rogue and Sunspot was interesting, but it was confusing too. Magneto does realize that there are plenty of Mutants still on Earth, and it almost seems like he's just abandoning them. I'll have to watch it again, I guess, to see what his plan was.

As many others are saying, the repercussions and setups in Fatal Attractions led to the Onlslaught Saga. AoA just so happened to happen in the middle temporarily, and could be easily missed out as it had no bearing on anything else. As for Bone Claw feral wolverine, I don't think the'll do the full Feral no nose/bandanna thing. That would require a whole new sub plotline with Tyler trying to rebond Adamantium back into him and shit - I remember that back in the day, it was such a swing and a miss for Marvel they just started drawing him normal again and never mentioned it again.

"Bone Claws" Wolverine is just fine, pretty much what "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" depicted. "Feral" or "Savage" Wolverine however, was Logan reverting back to the intelligence of a mindless, barbaric, barely comprehensible primate. a HUGE step back. It was NOT good, nor well received at the time.

So basically, you're not a fan of the X-men as you don't like any X-men stories from 1995 to the present. And if you're not a fan of the X-men then why is your opinion even relevant.

After the 90s they systemically trashed characters making Professor X and Cyclops in particular into horrible people. They outright ruin them. The plots in the 2000s and on just kept getting worse and worse and that's where they look to be going. Like you say, as it moves away from the early 90s looks that the OG cartoon used, it gets away from WHY I liked it. The only upside is as fast as they seem to adapt things, feral bone claw Wolverine shouldn't last more than 2 or 3 episodes.

FYI my brother showed me the first 3 episodes of this series. I like the animation, and there were some problems I had with the story. But overall, I choose not to watch it. Reason being I am learning from the mistakes of others. Game of Thrones started off, really great then completely screwed up in the end. Star Wars the Force awakens and Rogue One had lost of nostalgia bated, and well how did the sequel trilogy end overall.... horribly that's how. Not going to get into this series until ends completely, then we'll see if the show was worth getting into. History has shown this is the best way to save your money from being wasted on bad entertainment and making certain you save it for the good entertainment.

What surprised me was this is a DISNEY channel, yet this show is very dark and intense. I don't see any signs of censorship or holding back in any manner. If this was actually aired in 1997, on the FOX KIDS NETWORK, where the rating was TV-Y7, we wouldn't see Wolverine gutting Magneto like that, among others.

This review seems hella biased and utter bs. This show simplified and made streamlined version of the original storylines and worked so far but now bc it’s a storyline you’re dreading, you lose faith? Also New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men and Krakoa era was pretty good. Fatal Attractions led to Onslaught. And it wasn’t woke? Did you really read X-Men?

so this week the only thing bad about the episode is that its leaning towards the stories jeff didn't like. shame. I liked fatal attractions and what comes next, looks like they are seeding cyclops evil arc. also i did get a laugh when cyclops parodied the xmen movie about the costume being black leather. my real fear is they jump and start implementing stories from comics 2016 and beyond as thats when it was full disney and really shit the bed. as i have already spotted characters from that era. and recent as Xmen green.

They have been rushing all the storylines since the start, they need to slow it down, and the assault on Avalon/ Asteroid M was already done to a degree in the original series not to mention it crashed at the body of the ocean but it got dryed and all fixed up in a blink of an eye🤦🏽‍♂️again with the super speed story tellings, they just keep moving from set piece to set piece with bits of story😒remind me of J.J. Abrams storytelling and that's not a compliment.

I've only seen the first 4 episodes. I'll give them props to staying true to the orginal X-men series, even in regard to the art style and voice acting. That is more than I would have expected. But the story lines have been a little weak thus far and haven't really pulled me in. I don't know if I'll continue watching or not.

It's clear to me the problem is that they're trying to do too much. You have Storm going off to do her own thing. You have them trying to have Magneto be a good guy (only to backtrack which kind of kills the premise of this season). You have the whole intergalactic empire crap. Then, you're trying to integrate the Wolverine and the X-Men timeline from 2009 into this story as well. These should've all been their own season.

This episode was just ok like the other episodes not written by DeMayo. They needed two episodes for this, some of the team splits made no sense, Roberto is an idiot and the writer snuck in his twitter pals nonsensical modern way to refer to Morph when Rogue was speaking about how they left him for dead.

Recycled comics was not the move for sure. The costumes and characters along with the tone had me loose interest only finishing up to do a review and comparison to the original run. There was next to no nostalgia by episode 5 it was just leaning shock value. Failed to get the mainstream interested and it shows.

They rapidly died in the mid 90s. Wolverine losing his adamantium and leaving the team was the first hit, then AOA ruined everything…only “X-Men Adventures” was readable at the time. It didn’t become readable again until Onslaught but then they never fully recovered after that. I jumped from the sinking X-ship around Operation: Zero Tolerance. I LOATHED the changing uniforms and terribly cartoony art.
