Hi! My name is Loretta, a girl from the U.S. who moved to Japan! I'm here on the MEXT scholarship program as a graduate student, studying to get a Masters in Business Administration. Here are some answers to common questions:
1. Do I Speak Japanese? Yep! I was taught formally in High School and have been speaking now for over 15 years.
2. What are you studying? I'm a student in a Japanese "Masters of Business Administration Program"
3. How old are you?: tinyurl.com/y7xqqse2
4. How did you get into Japanese school?: tinyurl.com/yb8yylch
5. What camera equipment do you use?: I film my videos with a Canon 60D using a 30mm Sigma Art Lens and I edit with Sony Vegas Pro 10 (with some help from photoshop).

I LOVE YOUR MINDSET ON UNIVERSITY!!! I so wish many people would think of it in this way and then truly decide if higher education is truly what they NEED in life to do what they want to do in their future career. Your thesis is AMAZING! I LOVE IT! I'm SOOOOOOOO beyond proud of you and where you have gotten too. Not a lot of people can say they got their masters let alone in a completely different language. Your future is infinite Loretta! We're celebrating hardcore for your graduation!!!!

Lol Mike are you ok? You sound really immature, and I don't know why you feel the right to sit on a high horse. If nobody should improve themselves whether it is for " future prospects and monetary reasons" or otherwise, we would all still be living in caves, using primal technology. And that means that trolls like you will never get the chance to talk shit about people just to feel good about yourself (which it seems you are so fond of)

I love the idea behind your thesis! I've never been to Japan, but I'm studying Korean and one good case that immediately comes to mind is k-beauty brand Innisfree's expansion to the US market. It's a huge example of what to do correctly when expanding to the global market. A lot of Korean beauty brands in New York City basically picked up the exact same shops and etc and plopped it down in the US, with an English sticker on some things; no US marketing at all, hardly any American staff. I'm willing to BET that Innisfree hired a ton of help entering the market here last year. They expanded their makeup shade ranges to dark colors, hired diverse models, started separate social media accounts for the US customers, and much more. Just the fact that I can wear their foundation is a big step forward in terms of globalization, imo

I’m deciding still if I’m gonna be living in Japan or not, I’m just really worried about people staring since I’m American. So awesome. Congrats on everything you've accomplished thus far. I hope your thesis will be available in English as some point...it sounds fascinating. It reminds me of a documentary I recently watched where Starbucks was analyzed. Starbucks failed to take off in Australia because they assumed the same strategy they used in the U.S. would automatically work in Australia. They did not consider that Australia's coffee culture is more sophisticated than that of the U.S. In fact, Australians consider Starbucks to be garbage, lol. Their new strategy is to market the brand to tourists. Anyway, congrats again!

This video was insightful to me as someone who has tried(and failed) in entrepreneurship for the past 3 years. I've never had any formal training in business and I think it has hurt me quite a bit. So many online gurus that speak on entrepreneurship don't talk about ay type of business background being necessary. I appreciate the "bias effect" that you touched on. I've made that same mistake multiple times thinking as long as I had a website and some automation that I'd succeed. I think I'd like to pair some business skills up along my Japanese self study.

Bless you for being so honest about the pragmatism of a degree. I feel like sometimes when you say to others that the degree is so that you can get a good job and that you should pick a major that will allow that, people think that you mean that they can't pursue their passions in their career at all. You're living proof that that's not true! I will gladly fill out your survey! I always enjoy your videos. Good luck in your final semester!

This video made me think alot about my goals since it's very similar to yours in that I want to work a business job in Japan, so thank you for making it! I'm still working on my undergraduate degree in International Business from an AACSB accredited school. I'm not sure if they care about this accreditation in Japan so to try and give myself a boost I also took a Japanese minor and I will be studying abroad this year, my classes are all in English minus the Japanese classes. I don't have the confidence in my Japanese yet to take a class all in Japanese but after listening to you I might give a couple classes a try. Thank you again for the information and I wish you the best on your research!

Dude! Thank you so much for this. I'm going to Japan in like a week to be an English teacher(I'm a stereotype) but I primarily want to improve my Japanese level so I can apply for the MEXT because I do want a masters but I don't want to pay US prices. I just turned 24 and I felt so bad because I just got my BA in something I'm passionate about like you said. I think my masters will def be something more practical.
