In this episode, I take you through a crucial prep step for my upcoming journey from Miami to Austin, Texas, for the MotoGP race at the Circuit of the Americas - swapping my current Michelin Road 6 tires for a fresh set on my 2023 Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak. With over 8000 miles on my current tires, they've still got life in them, but for a trip over 3000 miles, I'm not taking any chances. Safety first, especially since I know I'll encounter rain along the way.
Join me as I delve into the reasons behind this decision, highlighting the importance of being prepared for long-distance motorcycle travel and ensuring maximum safety. I'll share insights into the Michelin Road 6 tires' performance and why they're my go-to choice for this adventure. Plus, get a glimpse into my trip planning and thoughts on motorcycle maintenance for long hauls.
This isn't just about tires; it's about making every mile count, ensuring safety, and maximizing the ride experience. Let's gear up for an unforgettable journey to the heart of MotoGP racing. Subscribe and ride along with me on this adventure, and stay tuned for more updates from the road!

Great Stuff Rembo.........I found Metzler SE 01s on my 1250 GS give more confidence, especially in the wet, but only just. I got 3k miles on them before both ends needing replacing. Road 6s I got 6k miles, I had the front step out on overbanding in the Pyrenees a couple of times but survived to tell the tale...Now I just bought a V4 Rally so this is welcome info. Still on OE Scorpion trail11 for now...Any info on them would be appreciated 🤞

Great video, Rembo! (As always) I’m on a GS Adventure and just ran down the rear on my recent roundtrip to AZ and back to MN. 5k on a Shinko 805 to completely square off. The front is barely showing any wear. I dislike running mixed tires, BUT, I’m mounting a Heidenau K60 on the rear, leaving the front with the 805 Shinko. Why not mount a Heidenau on the front? Mostly, because the rolling noise is atrocious. The alternative would be to mount a set of Michelin Anakee - but, zero experience with them.

@@RemboUSMC I know but in that incident, I put it more on Pecco. He was the slower rider at that point in the race. Falling backwards in the order. After giving up the inside pass to Marc, he tried to reinsert himself causing the collision. Those battles are going to happen not being on the same team. Both amazing riders though.

I totally understand where you’re coming from Rembo. Perhaps, just maybe a second set of rims (even non forged ones) to re-use the older set for domestic travels, so that you don’t forget about them (because they do age from manufacture date) and it saves you having to keep going to the shop to swap the tyres? Keeping in mind, the brake rotors & abs rings for each end. Just a suggestion. Cheers

I also have a Pikes Peak and my original Pirrelli's are almost done and Im not quite at 4K miles yet. I have been thinking about the Road 6 tires, but I ride 1/2 on the street and 1/2 in the canyons. I had a 2023 BMW R1250RT that had Road 5's on it and they handled great in the canyons and were still good at 6K miles when I sold it. Keep us posted on how your trip goes!

Great info...I am currently running Pierelli Angel GT2s on my Multi. They have been excellent in both the rain and dry...I live in Northern California so they get a fair amount of twisty road time. That being said, on grooved pavement the front tire really chases those cracks. The front has two parrellel groves which really catches on grooved asphalt and pavement. I will give these tires a try next time. Thanks for the info 👍

It's not "chicken strips", it's "safety strips". Unless you're riding on track, you're supposed to have those. Even If you're riding on track, you don't need to use 100% of your avaliable lean angle. That's when people crash.

I really like these tires. They give great confidence around corners, and they are great in the rain. In bad conditions they give good warning. I think the front is especially good with road feel. I am envious that you are going to see the MotoGP live. We can only watch here in New Zealand. Personally, I want to see Marc win. It's one of his tracks. But, whoever wins, will deserve it.

Ran the Road 6’s on a BMW 1250GSA whilst instructing on a track day. In between the instructing sessions I had a few ‘play time’ sessions where I explored the tyre’s capabilities… they are fantastic tyres and allow some serious lean angles (foot rests down a few times) and very nice tyre wear to the edge. I’ve also used them in wet conditions and once they’re properly warmed up they are capable of allowing lean angles further than you’d think should be possible. Keep an eye on the surface of the road, though.

Generally the rule of thumb is that you should need to switch out the front with every second rear, but I get you. Good rubber you have there. Just store the ones you switch out appropriately. I'm sure a shorter trip with curves can be found so you can put them to good use.

I don't think the 2 rears for 1 front applies anymore since the newer generation traction control devices came out. Modern TC is really good, shockingly good. I've had TC bikes since 2016, and tire wear dramatically went down, both on the sides and on the edges. TC is usually talked about in terms of safety or faster lap times, but no one talks about how they've dramatically extended tire life by not allowing the tire to slide on those tiny bumps and bits of slippery paint we all go over. And my latest bike has an auto-blipper which also reduces rear tire wear by making downshifts extremely smooth.

Absolutely agree with everything you have said about Michelin 6’s fitted to v4 pikes peak, I have v4 pikes peak and have had these tyres for 6000 miles on rear approx and just ordered a front as mine has done 7000 miles approx, loads tread still on front ,I’d say I’ve got another 2000 miles left on it. I am amazed every time I ride in rain, which is pretty often living on west coast Scotland as I do. They are fantastic in wet, I am constantly in twisties ,not many straight roads here 👍😂. Even in real low temps , 1-5 degrees Celsius over winter they grip believe me. Lot people wouldn’t go out riding in these temperatures, totally get that , but I just need my fix 👍. I cannot fault these tyres. Have safe trip to COTA Rembo , enjoy. 👍

I've run the Michelin Pilot Road 4's and Michelin Road 5's (have not tried the Road 6's) and the Pirelli Angel GT 2's on my BMW K1600 GT (over 200 lbs more than the Mulitstrada V4) and I found the Angel GT 2's to be my favorite for high speed sport touring - very confidence inspiring, great in the corners (yes, the K1600 GT can dance in the twisties) and decent mileage from them. I found the Pilot Road 4's and Road 5's to feel a less planted, particularly when riding on concrete roads with rain grooves. I have been hearing (as you have experienced) that the Road 6's are great tire and one that I'll consider when my stock Pirelli' Diablo Rosso IV's on the Pikes Peak need replacing.

If you lived in North Wales like me & only did long trips when you went to places on mainland Europe like the Black Forest in Germany or Northern Spain you'd be lucky to get more than 4,000 miles out of a set before they become quite unpleasant. The fronts wear out on the sides & the rears flat out the centres. Well, you could make them last if you rode slow around the bends but I couldn't see you doing that!

Could you please do a video on correctly pairing these so that I can also have them paired to the dash of the Pikes Peak so that I’m able to answer the phone via the Pikes Peaks controls. I currently have had to unpair the phone from the bike and have to answer it via the Zumo screen. I’m sure there must a correct order to pair the lot.
