Great video! I’m a senior in undergrad right now. I’ve been interested in school psych for over 3 years, but started to feel some doubt over my career and my goals. This video made me feel less anxious about the future! Loved hearing about your path and your experience :D

I’m glad it was helpful! There’s a lot of misinformation about career options within school psychology so I get the doubt! Thanks for watching!

Thank you for sharing this video. I've already started grad school for mental health counseling but I've been feeling like I should be going in a different direction. I've worked in elementary schools for quite some time and feel being a school psychologist just makes sense.

It's a great field, especially for people with backgrounds in education!

I am considering Clinical mental health. Out of curiosity, what is it that's getting you to change your mind?

Also… I would like to further into grad school, but didn’t do well with stats in undergrad. I have a fear of stats!! I did not have a good experience with my stats class during my undergrad and felt my professors was just too fast at it.. and abbreviated all her notes on the board, I passed, but felt like I should have got a better experience than the one that I had. She’s the only one who teaches that class for psych stats.

Stats was definitely not a strong suit of mine in undergrad. I've had a better experience of it during grad school, but I also had my classmates to help when any of us got stuck on something! It's one of those annoying classes that we need, but with the right study group, we all get through it!

How did you hear about school psychology for the first time?

I think that I might be more into school psychology than child psychology the more I learn about school psychology.
@GradGirlRambles
@GradGirlRambles 2 жыл бұрын
That's one of my favorite things about school psychology! I feel like its a subfield of child psychology, specifically within a school context. Depending on training programs, you can get more clinical training in what you might consider to be more traditional child psychology outside of schools. If you want to talk about it more, let me know! Thanks for watching!

Thank you for informative video 🙏🏻 I’m learning about the school psychology field. I heard some information about working with difficult behaviors. But I don’t know how accurate it is. Is it possible that you come across a student with dangerous behaviors, such as throwing chairs, or throwing sharp objects at others? If such a student comes for testing to your office, and during testing, he imposes dangerous to you, can you tell your supervisor or your school administrator that you cannot work with that child anymore? I’m thinking to apply for school psychology program. Thank you very much for your advice.

It will be different in every school, but if a child is seriously exhibiting dangerous behaviors, the school will likely have a safety/crisis plan to determine how to respond to those behaviors.

I’ve been thinking about going back to school to be a teacher for a while now but I’ve recently become curious about becoming a school counselor. Do you think it’d be best to go the education degree route or psychology?
@GradGirlRambles
@GradGirlRambles 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you see yourself doing! I also recommend looking up the difference between school counseling and school psychology. They are alike in some ways, but their primary functions are different.

Hi I wanted to know if I can choose a program that takes 2 years after I finish my bachelors degree want to become a school psychologist too. Can I finish everything with a bachelors degree and after that school psychology or two more years ?
@GradGirlRambles
@GradGirlRambles 2 жыл бұрын
Most specialist-level (EdS, CAS, PsyS, etc.) programs take 3 years! You generally have 2 years of coursework and then one year of a full-time internship! There are some 2-year masters programs, but you typically don't have that year of internship, which is required for practice in most states.

@@GradGirlRambles ok got it I live in ny in Long Island di I’m required to do internship after I completed my becholer and finish two years of graduation or can it be optional?
@GradGirlRambles
@GradGirlRambles 2 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaaghelian3924 You would have to check with your state's requirements. But the internship comes after the 2 years in a master's program.
