Ahhhh you're right! I had purchased my 12.9" through the Edu site and it's $900 for the base model through there and that stayed in my head for some reason! Thanks for the heads up!

One thing almost nobody mentions is the different formfactor: the 11 is the only ipad that is more rectangular. Which means smaller black bars when viewing widescreen content (in landscape mode). Even though the 12.9 has a larger screen, more of it is unused space with most movies and tvshows.

It's simple if you have a laptop then go for 11 inch & if you don't have a laptop then get the 12.9 inch it'll help in both. I choose 11inch for me

The 12.9" grabs too much attention in public when you're on the bus or something. The 11" is much more discrete like a regular tablet and people won't bat an eye.

I personally own the 12.9 inch one and I really love it. I especially like it because I tend to use the multitasking feature to put my textbook on one half of my screen, and my notes on the other. I've never had an issue carrying it around. That's one of the main reasons why I got the larger iPad. If you want to try to FULLY convert from paper to the iPad, the larger one is great because it can fit absolutely everything you need on the screen and you may tend to multitask more than you really think ;)

Spencer Nuzzo thats the comment i was looking for. I need one for the new semester. Thats why i didnt know for which size to go. Since i have a lot of ebooks and stuff the bigger size is great to drag and drop fast between ebook and notes.

cperception i have the 12.9 inch, i absolutely love the multitasking feature and it helps me have more space to take notes and it’s overall great and I rarely use my laptop now :)

I have been trying to figure out which tablet would be best for me and as a college student multitasking is the best when I’m trying to watch KZfaq and jot down notes. And as a podcaster and book writer it’s a lot easier to switch between the task. Thanks a lot for this comment.

Plus there’s enough screen real estate to be able to watch KZfaq videos in the top half of the screen and scroll through comments in the lower half when in portrait orientation.

exactly why I placed my order today! I currently own a 10.5 pro and splitscreen can really be a problem, especially when I'm trying to take notes from a textbook. I don't necessarily need it as a laptop as my mbp has been serving me well, but the larger screen actually means a lot for us who use splitscreen on a daily basis. and at home my mbp is connected to a larger monitor, so I would normally view iPad screen when studying. So I think the larger screen would be nice. I had the same doubt about "hard to carry it around". But c'mon, put it in a sleeve and pack it in your bag! It's not like you are juggling it like in a circus lol

I owned the 12.9 first then I went to the 11. I am all about the 11 at this point. So much lighter, more discrete, fits in smaller bags, and is more maneuverable. Good video sir.

Another factor is battery life! I mean I don't mind the size of the 12.9 but battery tests suggest that the 11 lasts a lot longer (almost two hours longer) than the 12.9. That's a huge thing to consider with portability

As a performing musician, the 12.9” is ideal for my particular use case: sheet music, which the 12.9” displays at FULL size. Yes, it’s a bit heavier than the 11”, but a helluva lot lighter than any ONE of my music score books.

Someone I can relate to! Does the 11" not display sheet music at full size, or are you just praising your 12.9" from personal experience?

Yes, I am. I’ve tried doing this on both sizes. The 11” will display the sheet music, but significantly smaller than actual size. I had to turn the iPad to landscape position, then scroll down for the bottom half of the page. Whereas the 12.9” displays the page exactly as you would see it on paper.

For our US friends, it's exactly that: 8.5 by 11 inches. Even though I'm in Europe, this is a really tempting use case for me too. And I rarely take a pad anywhere (currently using an old Android 8 inch).

I've been searching for a while about this. Getting the iPad Pro was something i was looking for. The size question was just haunting me especially with the price difference. The argument with where the wrist rests was a turning point for me. I think you are the only one on KZfaq who answered this question correctly and so clearly. Amazing video ! Thanks to you, i will be spending less for more and better !

Thanks, I wasn’t sure which size to get but now I’m sold on 11 inch. 12.9 inch is nice with the extra screen space but I like holding my iPad rather than laying it on my desk and I’m never gonna be using it as a laptop replacement.

TheRealCool 123 imagine the 12 inch with magic kebyboard. It’s gonna be $1350 for 128 gigs storage. You can do waaay more with an Air that costs 350 less, prolly the same footprint

I know part of you is just amazed that a tablet could be that big , i mean people use to buy 13 inch TV for the room so essentially its a TV you cary around . I went with the 11 cause ill probably use it more for the tablet side , also can you imagine this hitting you in the face while watching in bed!

I’ve also been battling with the choice of size, but ultimately decided that the 11’ is more suitable for my use case. As a tablet, the 11” is much more comfortable to hand hold. It’s just a pleasure to use away from the desk - where I feel the 12.9” is more suited for use at a desk. When I’m at the desk and when I want to get some real work done, I plan to use an external monitor with Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. I used to own a Sony Clie! I think the one I had was a UX50. Those things were so cool!

Same! Between the price diff (especially adding another $50 for the keyboard) and the size being a bit too large and comfortable I choose the 11. I feel the 12.9 is more of a laptop replacement.

I purchased the 2018 11 inch and it was perfect. 2 years later I purchased the 12 inch. At first I wanted something extremely portable (11 inch) but about a year in, I realized it just wasn’t big enough. I definitely don’t regret getting the bigger version at all.

Just as a sidenote, I’m pretty sure that in procreate you can make it to where only your pencil is able to leave marks, and your hand won’t screw up your drawing. I think it’s a setting within the app.

I watched so many videos to get to a conclusion on which iPad size to buy. Finally, this video tapped on all the practical points from every aspect and now I am clear which size to buy. I have had the 11" 2018 Pro since they came out.. I had the 1st 12.9" that came out and found it heavy. Thinking of getting the new 12.9, well that is if I could actually get one !!

An ipad mini pro would be great. It should have a 9 inch display or a little bigger. It would be a great addition in my opinion because of it being so portable it would be a great alternative for a small sketchbook and also it would be a great viewfinder for photography and such. Also as a secondary device for people who already have a mac or notebook

Jakeena Mckay I ordered a 12.9” 1tb cuz I wanna do video editing easily on the go and digital art. I have a gaming pc I will be using to Remote Desktop to the iPad as well. I do have big hands so is the 12.9” too big to do digital art like he said? I thought it detects your hand resting on it and ignores that input? First video that made me feel like I made the wrong choice. Don’t wanna sound like I’m being mean but his hands looks small and idk if I would have any issues.

Brandon Inkel it definitely is not too big for digital art, your hands won’t interrupt your work either. I think for the work that you will be doing with your iPad, what you chose is perfect! I also don’t think the 12.9 is huge either, it seems very manageable to me, the 11” would be very tiny imo. It also fits in my laptop bag and backpack just fine, I have no complaints with the size 😊

I had the 2018 11' but for the 2020 I had to go for the 12.9. Once you get used to the larger screen is hard to go back. For note taking, writing or productivity the extra space makes a huge difference.

Omg awesome review! Especially when you showed using pro create, that helped so much as drawing is what u use my current iPad (Air 2 o-o) for.. also, I already have an awesome computer so I’d go for the iPad that can sometime be a computer!

After much contemplation, decided to purchase myself the 2021 11inch. I will be traveling often and feel the 12.9 is massive in that regards. I also enjoy gaming on my iPhone so felt the 11 would be the perfect size increase for that. 12.9 would be difficult to concentrate on the entire screen while gaming a such a close distance.

All schools should use iPads instead of taditional notebook and books. Even english books should be replaced by cambridge english grammar etc ebooks vs inferior school books.

I would love a 12 inch ipad pro. Actually, for sheet music, 12.9 is a little bigger than a copy paper we print music on. Maybe 12 inch would be perfect.

For all of those who want to feel the real size of the ipad 12.9 because ive found that these videos lack that, its almost the same (a bit smaller) than a normal piece of paper. That will give you an idea of the real size.

The 12.9 is too big for me too. Very happy with the size of the 11. I'm going from the 2nd gen ipad mini so it's plenty big for my needs.

I’ve been rocking an Air 2 since launch.. it is still flawless I use it only for KZfaq and Netflix.. I’m gonna upgrade still not yet decided on size

I watched several other comparison videos and none of them gave me the point of view as you did. I just picked up the 11 but been considering going bigger. You made several great points I didn’t even think of. I got this for tablet stuff and gaming. If I need a larger screen I have my MBP.

Any artists here have the 11”?? I have been graciously gifted the opportunity to purchase the iPad Pro along with the Apple Pencil. I do not want to absolutely abuse my gift, so there is no question that I will purchase the 11”. I am just curious as to what you guys think about drawing on this iPad??

I want a 11” for most travel or armchair work. And a 27” iMac 4K, where I can have way more real estate for 4 or five apps on the screen , I can see all I need and switch to what I want in an instant. That is the best for my world. Data Analysis and Engineer, is my prime use.

after watching so many videos, i really think 12.9 isn’t necessary for anything you’re doing. it’s called an iPad for a reason. iPad’s are tablets. 12.9 is basically a laptop. 11 inch seems perfect for everything if you want to take it on the go. I don’t think it’s worth an extra $200. You can use that to buy an apple pencil instead. Thank you for this vid, i will be getting the 11 inch.

@@kazilife8059 i literally draw on the 11 inch proving to you that paying extra for the 12.9 inch isn't necessary like what dont you get? people can save money by buying the 11 inch and spend that extra money on an apple pencil and some other accessories instead. my other artist friends also have the 11 inch and they love theirs and dont complain that they "need more space"

This makes me feel good about getting the 11, I see so many people w the 12.9 and I was like, but its so massive. When u said the if u plan on using it as more of a tablet or laptop that made me feel much better bc I want to use it as a tablet but I will sometimes need to type things for school
