I just bought a G26. Have you had the same one for 15 years? I am relatively new to guns (~3 years) Do they really last that long and will I be able to carry my gen 5 for 15+ years? I'm sorry if it's a dumb question

Yeah great combo. I got my 17 for my nightstand gun about a year ago. And just now picked up my 26 for concealed carry. Both Gen 3 (California special) which I actually like a lot. And I don’t know what it is about my Gen 3s but the triggers are actually very good - both have a consistent hard wall and clean crisp 5-6lb break with zero creep, which is exactly how I want them. The safety blades kinda suck but let ya know you’re pulling the trigger giving exceptional tactile feedback.

@@joerogan3506 I think round count and usage is a better gauge for pistol life than time. I have 30 yr old Taurus in .45acp that’s still going strong. And Glocks have been known to last 10s of thousands of rounds. Regular cleaning and maintenance are key - and changing out parts as they wear (recoil rod/spring, barrel, etc - but those are gonna be good for several thousand rounds typically). Your magazines will likely need replacing before anything if you shoot it enough.

I just ordered a 26 but have you checked out the Taurus G3 C its pretty cool for the inexperienced because it has a safety

The red dot is cool and all but it’s not necessary in most situations. I had the G19 MOS and sold it. Getting a G26 in a couple weeks!

Try the Hogue Beavertail Handall grip on you Shield. It changes the feel completely. I’d still get the 26, I love mine, but the hogue works great on the shield.

This being two years later you probably already got. Get the G26.

@@Aluttuh Funny thing, had a training recently, 27Dec2020, and instructor allowed me to use my EDC G26 gen5. I did have my G19 gen5, but did not use. On the range, I can use any Glocks or my P365 (rarely use now).

Glock19 is a compact. 26 is sub

Mine is gen 3 too as well. Btw I don’t use the light setup much. I like for it to be as light as possible.

Also check out GeePlate mag base plate for flush mag. Makes a world of difference in purchase with flush mag. Good review

Yeah when used to have the G27 years ago when I was new to firearms I couldnt hit shit with it. Even with the extended mag and sleeve my accuracy was bad. Im sure now I can shoot it a lot better but the G26 is better for me. I shoot 1911 in .45 the best but they are too big and heavy for me to CC 😢

It will end up being your favorite guaranty it. It's just as accurate as 19 for me. Cant explain it but......👍🇺🇲

Hell yes man gen 3s..and for the nightstand..glock 17mag with a xgrip on it. Doesn't get better....also talon grips the sandpaper feel is awesome....

Oh Yeah and my G-26/Gen 3 has been in my possession for 11 years with Zero Regrets. Have the Seventeen as well.

Just an fyi, I have a 26 and a 42 and I am glad that I do. There are definitely times where the 42 fits better for what I am doing. I do however carry the 26 much more frequently.

Try glock 44, not subcompact but that 22lr glock is one of the funnest guns ever to shoot

I'd have to both agree AND disagree with the mag interchangeability. Not everyone lives in a similar area that I do. But I live very close if not directly in the cities (being ambiguous on purpose). If you haven't been seeing what's been happening in the last couple of months/year, you really need to. Its nutty. People being assaulted in the streets. Businesses burned/ destroyed, people assaulted, some ambushed by a random brick to the back of the head, people being ripped out of cars by mobs of people.. It's insane. With all the riots and other "random assaults" that have been happening, I need something smaller I can conceal so I don't disturb the average citizen, but I really want to carry extra ammo beyond the 10 rounds the Glock 26's mags offer, or the ability to pick up a downed officer's 15+ round mag and (without too much limitation) still be able to use it to defend the officer and myself. (which I hope that never happens). It's summer now, so I can't run around in a hoodie without roasting or looking like I'm dealing drugs, just to conceal a firearm that I realized was too big for the job I needed that gun to do. A couple of years ago when I carried a Glock 19, when the wind blew it printed the handle of my gun. It became so obvious that a random dude (who I assumed also concealed and carried) whispered to me that I'd need a smaller gun. So I went and bought the next best thing that allowed me to conceal my weapon, but also take the Glock 17 mags I wanted to carry.

Pistols are a GREAT if not the preferred choice for home defense. Especially if you're not a complete loser and have family or friends/roommates you live with. Remember: Not everyone happens to live alone in a small town/ the middle of "nowhere". Pistols are smaller, meaning they are much easier to maneuver in tighter spaces. Pistols are also lighter and easier to use than a shotgun. There are videos on KZfaq where a pro shooter short stroked a pump action shotgun and wasted SO much time trying to fix the problem caused by both user error and poor design choices. If that was a defensive use of that shotgun in that instance the pro would probably be dead depending on the situation. Not only that, what if I need to carry a smaller person with me, like my wife or my kid(s). I can't use one hand if its a pump shotgun. And I lost most of my benefits if its a long gun like an AR since I don't have 2 hands to work with anymore. Not only that, pistols are indeed notably weaker, so they aren't as prone to go through multiple walls and potentially kill your wife or child or roommate while you're in the process of defending yourself and others. The next point to note is that while a light might "give away your position." I trade my temporary position for very valuable information, like not shooting someone I care about, or seeing where the bad guy isn't (meaning i can narrow down where he is). REMEMBER: KNOW YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT. Not only that, there's a reason most weapon lights have a momentary feature. The momentary feature is to provide you with info, but to also allow you to turn the light off when you don't currently need the info until the next meaningful/strategic use. Weapon lights are also a failsafe if you somehow find yourself unable to find a handheld flashlight. The light isn't always on, meaning that they might know where you are generally, but not actually. Depending on how bright the light is the light can also blind your adversary, giving you an advantage. Now onto red dots: Multiple people have made the point that the "extra training" (even though it takes a much of training anyways to be effective with a firearm, let alone a CCW) is very worth it to gain the amazing benefits of red dots: Clearer sight picture, more natural point of aim, faster sight realignment, the ability to threat focus while maintaining point of aim (while threat focusing), the ability to rack the slide or to even clear malfunctions with your pistol optic on most surfaces/objects (like belts, or doors) regardless of whether or not the optic is working any longer, the ability to use regardless of lighting conditions are amazing benefits to the defensive shooter. Plenty of older shooters LOVE red dots on their rifles and handguns because they can actually see the sight in their failing vision. And a solid point to note, if you aren't training your irons regardless on whether or not you have an optic on your handgun, you're not a good concealed carrier. The reason the backup irons are there is if the red dot fails and you need them. So train with them regardless. Now to those who say red dots on pistols are "gimmicks" needs to get with the program. Optics on both rifles, and handguns are purely beneficial to the shooter even with the supposed "downsides". The future is now old man. :)
