One of the best videos about the world we live in to date 👏👍. Like you I'm also an atheist and feel people have the right to believe in whatever they want, just as long as their beliefs aren't used to harm any one in any way. Sadly there are those who do exactly that by manipulating religion to get whatever they want. Thanks for making this video, keep doing good thing and enjoy life as best as you can, all the very best, Trev from East London.

You are absolutely wrong about virtually everything you said about the U.S. and you ought to know better being a Canuck living so close to the U.S. border (as the vast majority of Canucks do) and taking advantage of everything America has to offer! Who we elect will not affect the economic and military benefits that canada receives from the U.S. so I strongly recommend that you stay out of it because it’s way out of your league!… At least America didn’t elect a weak lying elitist soy boy, right? Right!… Do you know who protects Canada and what percentage of Canadian jobs (directly and/or indirectly) are dependent on the U.S. & American investment?… Of course you do because most Canucks know it but won’t admit if!.. Well, know this, no other country in the world is more dependent on another country for their livelihood & protection than Canada is on the USA! Even your colonial masters Britain knows who the big daddy is and they knew that during WW II and they know that now more than ever especially after Brexit because most, if not all, of the Commonwealth countries want to cut ties with the British monarchy!… As for America’s healthcare system, it’s the best in the world with the best medical schools, hospitals, doctors & nurses in the world and what makes it that way is the ideal mix of public (Medicaid & Medicare) and private (innovation & technology) insurance. No cash strapped socialized healthcare system and no endless waiting time like in Canada and the UK. Everyone has the ability to acquire better healthcare in the U.S. than Canada… Sometimes people have to do a bit of research to find the best healthcare for them since it varies from state to state but it’s available, it’s affordable and it’s free for the lower income brackets!… As for religion, it’s a great thing!… American exceptionalism is rooted in religion, not in some monarch!… “In God We Trust” is what made America the richest and the most powerful country in the world. Also, our Constitution and the Amendments are the greatest innovations of democracy! I can go on and on and on about America’s achievements and it’s contributions to the world because that list is the longest in the world!… Look, there is a lot of jealousy, resentment and that notorious Canadian inferiority complex when it comes to the U.S. Unfortunately, every Canadian has it more or less but be grateful, be extremely grateful, that the USA is your next door neighbor because no other country in the world would’ve been a more generous and beneficial neighbor! Good Bless America! 🇺🇸.

@@aheat3036 Hello! Really not going to delve too deep into your comment, because this video was in no way a commentary on the USA's contribution to the world regarding trade and economics. This was about my ethical beliefs, and you cannot tell me I'm wrong about those. Also, "In God we trust" is literally about a fictional man in the sky. I'm not a fan of the monarchy either, but at least a monarch is a real person.

The odd thing about your video is that you say you won't live in the United States because you would have to compromise your values to live there (something quite understandable), but you then add that if someone paid you a million dollars you would live there. A little hard to take you seriously when you get on your high horse, a high horse I agreed with for the most part, but then follow up by saying you are willing to compromise that high horse for the mighty dollar. As a Canadian I could relate to what you were saying till you compromised your high horse with the mighty dollar. My son is a U.S. citizen, my ex-wife is a U.S. citizen, my grandfather was born in the United States, I have lived there briefly, I have 5 years of U.S. schooling and many of my best friends growing up have been American. I won't say I know as much about the country as someone who has resided there a long time, but as a Canadian I would say I know a lot about the country. With that in mind I can say I do not live there because my special needs son would not be better off there. Even in the most progressive U.S. states he would not get the help he gets in Canada (specifically Alberta). In Canada my son is fully covered for all services from health care to dental to optometrist to living aids (if necessary) to prescription drugs to ambulances. He is in a special program with a to-the-door bus service. He receives a basic income and has an amazing disability savings plan through the government. As a child he got a grant to attend a private school and had special funding geared around his needs. His enrollment in school was based on what school was best for him not what neighborhood we lived in. In the U.S. I can say he would pretty much get nothing, with some small exceptions, unless everything was paid for out of pocket, regardless of what state I chose. Anyway I was with you till you sold out your values for the dollar.
@MeganRuth

Thank you for your comment. The “a million dollars” comment was clearly a joke, and if you had gotten off your “high horse” you would have understood that as there is no scenario I can think of where someone WOULD actually pay me a million dollars to live anywhere. I do appreciate your comment about your son, which makes perfect sense why you wouldn’t live in the states. But please don’t question someone’s morals and integrity based on a JOKE. Thank you.

@@MeganRuth There is no way to tell it is a joke unless you state that. I only know what you say. Wasn't clear IMO that it was a joke. That said my apologies. In fact many famous Canadians move to the United States when it comes to success (i.e. Wayne Gretzky, William Shatner, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Anne Murray and many more). In fact as a child it was disappointing when Wayne Gretzky moved to L.A. to play for an American team. Many Canadians once they attain fame and money move there. That said thankfully Margaret Atwood still lives in Canada - amazing woman.

As a Brit age 50 yrs old, I grew up watching old fashioned Hollywood films. Watching interviews on telly of famous people from the past, not celebrities, like, we call famous people today. People like Oliver Reed, Peter O Toole, David Niven and Bob Hope etc. Real actors with genuine talent! And I felt I always wanted to visit Los Angeles and Hollywood, but not anymore, since wokism took over, and the rising crime rates you now see in downtown Los Angeles. It’s a real shame, parts of America is like that, and America’s film capital has been allowed to become less than it was.

A million might buy you healthcare for a while but it would not make up for the miryad other issues - not least the callous disregard for the non-rich (25% of all prisoners are in the US - fundamentally due to economic and social issues). The UK has, sadly, gone downhill over the past decade and a half but its generally safe, there is still free healthcare and a social safety net (albeit both creaking under the strain at present) and while there are populist lunatics - their popularity appears to be a great deal less here than much of the world now. Sadly, from what I've seen when living there, Canada is moving in the US direction rather than the UK one. Hopefully, if we're able to turn things around with after the next election, we can try and be more of a positive influence - inside and out.

Very well put! For many years now the United States gave the impression of being the only civilised country in the world and it was its job to police other countries and get involved in their politics. In the past we did need the might of the industrial machine of the States, however, they seemed not to appreciate the cultures and values of citizens in countries different from them , some might say even blinkered. We all see the horrendous mass shootings that occur there, seems to be one a month these days and still the government ignores calls for a change. Their legal and enforcement system seems so complicated, I read something recently, that there are 18,000 different branches of law enforcement. How in heaven can anything be resolved with that conundrum of agencies? Wake up America!

I'm an American who would immigrate in a cold second if I had both the money and physical ability to do so. The only way I'll ever be able to immigrate, short of a proverbial financial and medical miracle, is to somehow find a wealthy foreign national in the nation I'd like to immigrate to who could support me long enough for me to get citizenship. That's also basically a zero chance of happening for me, unfortunately. I'm at a point where I don't really even want to be an American anymore, but I'm stuck. I don't qualify to immigrate basically anywhere on my own because I'm both disabled and poor. If things get so bad one day that Americans can be considered refugees, that would be my only real tangible option, really. The US is a first world nation only in terms of money as a whole, nothing else. Short of half the nation dying somehow all at once, I don't see things changing for the better in a real permanent way anytime soon.

@@jjsmallpiece9234 American society asks completely different questions about gun ownership, they have a different frame of reference to people in the UK, Canada or Australia. Or even Switzerland where a large proportion of the population owns guns as part of their civil defence policy. As my Californian friend noted, the primary purpose of the Second Amendment was to facilitate shooting the British should they return. A well regulated militia does not require every citizen to carry firearms at all times. My American daughter-in-law is very uncomfortable with the idea of my grandchildren attending schools where they may be harmed by someone that is deranged, but she is also quite clear that banning guns is not a practical option within the USA. In fact, her brother bought my son a handgun for his Christmas present (oh, the irony) so he could better protect his sister and their family. She thinks that gun ownership should be linked to a personal record of mental health but US laws, unlike those in the UK, puts personal privacy ahead of the 'general good' so licensed psychiatrists in the USA are not permitted to make known to the police the health records of individuals. I don't know how or when gun ownership took on this iconic role in US society; I know the USA quite well, indeed I have been shot at on Santa Cruz beach and also been rather too close to a gangland killing for comfort, but I really can't see a route to the point where young mothers can collect their children from school, sure in the knowledge that they are safe.

The United States is too egalitarian from the standpoint that unlike Germany, school kids who read below grade level are unwisely permitted to continue in the academic track in school even though they’ve demonstrated virtually no academic aptitude and would be better off transitioning to a manual arts program in order to learn a working class trade. In other words they shouldn’t even have the option of advancing past the sixth grade if they’ve neglected to learn to read and calculate without the assistance of an electronic calculator. Then also it is ludicrous that persons with no reserve status in the military are permitted to own assault weapons with high capacity magazines which can of course be easily converted to fully automatic fire provided someone has even a modicum of mechanical ability. And then finally I must admit that Americans are too religious which could be a consequence of the atrocious educational system in which everyone simply believes whatever they wish their reality testing function never having been fully developed owing to being cultural zeros with virtually no historical or philosophical grounding in topics such as comparative religion or the fact that all of the world’s ancient religions prominently featured demigods born of virgins who rose from the dead after being crucified, which of course is strongly indicative that Christianity is basically recycled pagan mythology, and not any sort of unique revelation from the Godhead vouchsafed to all of the inbred denizens of our rural backwaters. I am an American citizen, have traveled widely as a seaman, and taught school mostly in the Cleveland ghetto for seven years. I also spent fourteen months living in three different monasteries but lost my religious belief as a direct consequence of studying the early Christians, something the other monks told me to do, which does not really promote continuing in one’s religious credulousness.

But then also I’ve read all of the books pertaining to the Christ myth written by writers such as Tom Harpur, Freke & Gandy, Alvin Boyd Kuhn, Kersey Graves, Alan Watts, and Albert Schweitzer. Then also Bishop Spong and Bishop Pike of the US Episcopal church have debunked Christian mythology. To me at this point it’s all horseshit. People go into the clergy because they need a job.
