I love the beauty and the history tied to the early Bowman football sets. They were produced in a time when pro football was growing in popularity. As games started being televised, more and more people were falling in love with the sport and the players of the 1950's. I hope you will enjoy some of these artful cardboard masterpieces.

Thanks Jim. I’m a fan of the early Topps baseball but I also just really appreciate the Bowman cards too, even a little more than Topps. I didn’t always prefer Bowman but it’s interesting how tastes change over time. Thanks for watching buddy.

Chris, this was just a fantastic showcase of late 40s-early 50s history. The breadth of players you showed along with the commentary on the history of the game and the players from that era was enjoyable to see and listen to. I watched the video three times and will end up watching it again. So many beautiful and historical cards here. If someone doesn't watch this and want to collect these cards, then it will probably never happen. You have the who's who of the early black athletes that helped integrate the game. There is that beautiful George Gulyanics. So happy you were able to finally win that one. Love the Tom Landry rookie! Nice 52 Waterfield. That Triplett card is so beautiful with the trees in the background. I love how football images were so different. Your favorite Baugh is my favorite Baugh. It is so simple but says so much. The video did not run long. You have an impressive collection. I look forward to you completing the 1950 Bowman set. What an accomplishment that will be. Thanks for sharing.

There is just something about that 1950 Baugh. Simple but absolutely beautiful. Interestingly enough, I just recently found out how good Chet Mutryn was for the Buffalo Bills in the AAFC. All league for three of the 4 years and was usually among the league leaders for TD’s. I look forward to completing the 1950 set too(I am actually about as close card # and dollar amount completing 1951 also) but I’m hoping to show more when I get down to that last stretch of less than ten cards. Thanks for watching Terry. I’m grateful for your friendship and our shared common interest in these wonderful sets.

Hey Chris! My apologies I am a little late on the comment. I’ve watched this video a handful of times. As much as I enjoyed it, it’s not good for my wallet health, haha. This was one of the best videos on KZfaq. What a treat you gave collectors by doing this. Also it was an incredible love letter to Bowman cards and for football. The amount of history you gave in 15 minutes is beyond impressive. The Ollie Matson rookie is an incredible card. I agree with you on the ‘49 bowman’s. Your collection is just hands down amazing, Chris.

That is pretty cool that the first nfl championship game was on television in 1948. I had no idea. One thing I love about your channel and also Terry's. Channel is that you guys share football cards pre 1980s. I have an iron clad memory for football but knowledge pre 80s gets pretty murky. So I love these videos. Gotta go with 50 Bowman with an edge. Some beautiful cards Chris. Enjoyed and thanks for sharing with us.

Fantastic cards Chris! I agree the history of this area is one that people should learn more of and videos like this are a fantastic start! It amazes me that with the rules the way they are today favoring the passing game that Norm Van Brocklin still holds the record for most passing yards in a game. I had never seen a Tom Landry playing days card, that was sweet. Love the Rams cards of that era but that 52 Ollie Matson RC is amazing! Great video, really enjoyed it. Have a great weekend!

Steve, the idea that Van Brocklin still holds that record is amazing! That 1951 Rams team was a juggernaut on offense and that team was a huge reason for the growth in popularity for the sport. I can only imagine the excitement of watching that high scoring team when lower scores were the norm. Seeing a Rams game from that era in the Coliseum must have been incredible!! Thanks for watching buddy. I’m going to try and reach out to you sometime this week as I really appreciated your recent video about trying to reach out to more guys in 2024. I thank you and curse you for showing these cards and sharing their stories. What a bunch of beauts. Word around town is Van Buren (born in Honduras, BTW) almost missed the '49 Championship as he didn't think the game was going to be played. (I don't love Tom Landry).
@storiesincardboard9420
@storiesincardboard9420 6 ай бұрын
John, I didn’t know Van Buren was born in Honduras. Very interesting. I think it was the ‘48 championship he almost missed because of the snow, the ‘49 championship was basically a mud bowl. If I recall correctly, I think he got a cab or something and ran several blocks at the end to get to the game? How might that have changed history? Thanks for watching, even though you don’t love Tom Landry. 😁🤣

😂😂 The Steelers didn’t have any good players back then 😁 No seriously though I did have a couple of Steelers in the original batch. I had Ernie Stautner and Jerry Nuzum. I had pulled so many cards that I had to take some out. I even pulled some out as I was doing the video. I’ll look at putting together some kind of Steeler video for you, maybe tie it into a shout out for you. I haven’t voted for the KZfaq HOF the two years I was eligible to vote but I do think your channel is very much worthy of recognition. It’s very underrated IMO. You are very consistent, show multiple sports from multiple eras, you do the thing where you have the player stand in for your show and tie it into stat trivia for the player and you’re a set collector that talks a little what I call cardboard psychology. You’ve done giveaways VR’s, shoutouts, you support a lot of other channels. Basically I just think you do a really great job Eric. Keep it up!

Good to hear your voice & your football stories again Chris. I have a few common 48 & 50 Bowmans & the 51 Tom Fears. I also have Tobin Rote cards from 53 Bowman & Topps 56/58 sets & 1960 CFL Toronto Argonauts. Love to pick up some more of the early Bowmans but they’re quite pricey as you know & it’s tough getting more on a retirement budget. The next will be the Crazy Legs Hirsch card I hope.

Chris, just looking at the Sid Luckman and Sammy Baugh cards right away totally caught my attention. What amazng cards! The 48 Football cards look identical to their baseball counterparts. I like the 50 Bowman because of the color, but the 48's are the original so you have to live them. The Bobby Lane card was cool, but I really love the Elroy Hirsch card. I’m working on all the sets and am nearing completion on 1948, 1950, 1951 and 1954 with 1955 complete and still some work to do on both 1952 sets and about half way with 1953.
