I have lived in several so-called "dangerous" countries and visited others that were so-called in "chaos". The only time I felt insecure in Moscow was towards the end of Glasnost. Everytime I exited my hotel I got a lecture from the babushka on reception that I must not take a taxi, only use public transport. In 50 years of visiting NY I have the same feeling when I see the precautions NYers take against intruders/each other as well as the reaction I received, when I was younger, when asking directions. Older people would look alarmed as if it was a prelude to being mugged. I lived in Algiers, '62 - '64 when the Times of London was writing untrue reports from there. The revolution deposing Salazar was a giant street party in Lisbon. I have experienced coups when ordinary life continued normally. A coup I was in the middle of was the 1963 attempt in Tunis. I was in the national radio station which was the first thing they attacked. We were simply locked in our rooms, and, when the coup failed, we got out. No drama. In 60 years of travelling I have learned that media reports are often exaggerated. It sells. In the same way that "sex sells" as Murdoch stated when he arrived in the UK from Australia around 1970 and set up the Sun, which proved his point by developing the largest newspaper circulation in that country. The ambitious Blair befriended this person to get into power. Ailes, who set up Fox News, is an example of the Murdoch fraternity. The most generous welcoming citizens I have encountered have been in Islamic countries, most recently Iran. Moscow, in 1986, was a very friendly place, as well as a city of high culture. While I recognise that things change with time, the fundamental values of a culture remain. Some countries have not had a long enough history to establish who they are and, unfortunately they developing in a time when venality is to the fore. I do not trust the media. Sangita Myska has lost her job at the London Broadcasting Company, for being the only presenter there willing to stick to the truth. There are one or two others there who are willing to approach the truth, but with a leavening of the prevailing, misleading agenda.

@@gerrygallen5911 interesting personal experiences/views. I don't think anyone is suggesting that Moscow is chaotic or dangerous. Dictatorships are by definition good at keeping the population under control. It's the unfortunate people who agitate for change who have most to fear, and that should be of more concern to the rest of the citizens than it clearly is in Russia atm... Because one day they may have to oppose their leadership and can expect the same. Dare I say it, they will have deserved the same by their inaction.

Would be nice to see you talking about the borderline experience when you had to act with the police. East germany had the same prevention actions by the secret police and their system broke apart due to poor performance of the plan system. Good luck and I guess a lot of your general audience on the main channel would know about this channel a lot more cause it was not that easy to find you here.

I wouldn't compare East German dictatorship called DDR with USSR, let alone with contemporary Russia. I know, many Germans are convinced the system broke apart because of its poor performance. But it wasn't the main reason.

5-6 years ago I was telling the Russians I met that my family had to leave Russia and some of them were even killed back in 1919 and most of them would say but that my family were aristocrats and there was huge inequality in the Russian empire (even though all their money and belongings were already taken from them) now I see many Russians sharing the same faith as my family did. bye the way please do not think I am happy about this or something I just find it strange that every 100 years some people need to leave Russia in order to stay alive or free. I guess now we have new Бывшие люди.

My greatfather immigrated and he became one of the founders of modern transplantology in medicine and he was doing operations until he was 72 and still gave lessons till he was 90. We are now very well off and we even managed to buy back some of our estates and land after the collapse of USSR. Bolshevism was a killing machine disguised as harbinger of Humanism, Peace and Social Justice. But it was a clever concept At no time the enemy of the people was clearly defined. One who was a friend yesterday could become enemy tomorrow. Derzynski was an aristocrat. Lenin's father awarded the Order of St. Vladimir and became a hereditary nobleman. With it he gained the right to be addressed as "Your Excellency". Russian history is a permanent history of self-destruction and hatred directed towards everybody who just wants Russia to become a normal, regular country, country as many others and equal to others.

Maybe. Either they pressured him. Or he changed his opinion and stance and/or lost interest in the brainwashed z-people and their narrowminded boring dogma's. Or maybe he was never on Ukraine's side, but just a more superficial person who likes entertainment and liked asking questions for the views, without much of a moral center. He saw an opportunity and exploited it, without remorse, without considerations. Most humans are ethical and passionate about one thing but totally dispassionate and amoral about most other things.

Looks like he got threatened and escaped to Georgia. He is still trying to make some money through new videos, but he is afraid to make further street interviews. You don't resign from such good profits so suddenly. So if he got threatened, it's understandable that he had to cut ties with his old content. He was always a smart guy. Looks like he is under some serious pressure. His gesticulation and eyes movement are off. He is afraid, but tries to hide it through humour. You can see that. You need to be trained or actor to hide it properly.

You are a profound young man. It's nice to see a productive young member of Society providing a platform for people to express themselves in a system where they may feel unheard. Just keep in mind that there are forces at play that are at war with free thinking. Even the Great Socrates was ultimately sacrificed for simply encouraging people to ask questions and form conclusions about how and why a Society should progress and develop.

Hi Daniil Thanks for your interesting content over the years. I have enjoyed all the interviews that you and your team have put out over the years and these explanations of \for your work are especially interesting mainly because they are not..in line with a lot of what we have been..programmed (?)..to expect from a journalist working in a country that has invaded it's neighbour. I noticed that you use the expression "the war". We have been told that doing just that can result in a jail sentence and have been shown trials of young people being sentenced to 6 years, for example. So I hope that you can understand why some of your 🇭🇲🦘 viewers (and probably some 🇺🇸) are curious. Best wishes to you, and your friends and family ❤❤👍👍

Its well said that you are not the opposition, that opposition must act. A lot of people think they are some sort of opposition by posting online. In the west, its the same. Real opposition gets the stick, the real opposition sits in jails like Assange. You can post online what you like, and think that you are free.

When a person or a country is in an extreme state of paranoia, everything reads as a threat. Therefore, everyone “different” looks like an enemy of the people. Living in a multi ethnic democracy, we realize that people (immigrants) from different countries bring new energy and life (and money) to a moribund economy and more sizzle to the steak (or veg if you’re vegan). It’s a big world. We don’t have to spend it toothless and voiceless.
