Using Smash to get to know people is literally the anime trope of "we can't truly communicate with words alone, we have to fight each other to understand each other"

from my experience, best way to experience melee now is to emulate it with widescreen and a gamecube controller. Honestly alot of fun

Funny thing, my experience was actually the exact opposite with Dark Souls. Couldn't get into it for a variety of reasons when playing by myself, but grabbing a fried or two and turning it into one long co-op ARPG campaign made it into a wonderful experience. There's just something fantastic about grabbing the boys and setting out on a journey to go destroy a bunch of demonic abominations, and all the shenanigans that ensue along the way.

I had the re4 experience with fire emblem awakening. I had played the older games before that and echoes and three houses after that, but refused to touch awakening and fates for years. I finally picked it up a few months ago and realized it was great. I kind of beat myself up over it now, other people have such great memories of that game, and I've never wanted to be nostalgic for something so badly.

A didn't really like Earthbound/Mother 2 the first time I tried it. Up to that point, I think the mainline Pokémon games were the only TB-JRPGs I'd really played and enjoyed so I may have projected that onto my expectations for a game that was "kinda, sorta similar" to me at the time. It wasn't until I got into the lore/subtext of the Mother series in general that I felt intrigued enough to give it a proper chance and judge it on it's own merits. That said, I still don't like the Mother series as much as some of it's more devout fans but I'm absolutely enamored by the very nature of what these games set out to accomplish in terms of how they deviate from the more conventional themes associated with JRPGs and perhaps RPGs in general. Also, Mother 3 is debatably my favorite TB-JRPG of all time thus far.

I actually have a pretty bad habit of doing something similar to the RE4 issue you had, but with every type of media including movies, games, shows, and books, although more specifically I kind of shy away from anything excessively popular. Ironically enough, it's part of the reason I've never played through any of the Dark Souls games. I understand now that I'm not an angsty high-schooler that half the time things are popular because they are good (though not all the time) and that discounting an experience as not worth my time because other people "liked it too much" is just plain stupid, regardless of whether or not they like it because of nostalgia.

When I was like 6 years old I went to the house of some of my parents' friends. Their son had a GameCube with Melee. I didn't know what a GameCube was, I had never heard about any other Nintendo franchise (by that point my only experience with games was Pokemon Ruby) I was blown away and I've been obsessed with Smash ever since but I couldn't play it until the 3DS because the only Nintendo consoles that I had were handhelds. The funny thing is that I'm not sure wether I played Melee or the original because I vaguely remember a N64 and its controller but I also remember playing as Samus in the Poke floats stage.

I’m really excited for RE4 for quest 2 because the Wii port was one of my favorite games on the console because of just how well it controls, so taking that into VR is gonna be really cool

5th also i played hollow knight for like 1hr and got lost, never picked it up for like 4 months. then i picked it up again, realized my mistake, and ended up loving the game so much i completed it at 112% at 69hrs (nice)
