WHY I DIDN'T LIKE THE INFLATABLE BOAT | BRIS 10.8

In this video I go over the maiden voyage and first setup of the BRIS 10.8 Inflatable Boat. This ended up being a pretty terrible day on the water and overall showed me that this was just not a boat for me. Enjoy my misery on the water and see how it ended up.
This video is why an inflatable boat was not for me, this is not a video of the BRIS boat breaking or sinking.

2:10 I understand the outboard had issues but it was the setup and breakdown of the boat that turned me off. The idea I was hoping for was a quick "throw in the truck and go" setup but this ended up not being the case. Because of the setup/breakdown time I moved on from the inflatable and into something better suited to my needs. I appreciate that some folks don't have the ability to use/store a trailer and find value in inflatables. For me though, the setup/breakdown time to get rolling is not worth the ability to throw it in my truck when I'm able to use a trailer and cut the setup time down to a few minutes. Check out the aluminum boat build here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZdzdLqnm5bNg5c.html

@@mvboutdoors I have the same setup disorder. And as for quick load and unload, get yourself a little cheap golf cart trailer. We're a little a $1000 home depot. Lowe's little trailer. Then you leave the boat inflated. I don't recommend leaving the motor on the back of the transum. But yeah, it's a great little boat. And if you get one here in the state of Washington, 10 feet or smaller and the motor is 10 horse or less you don't even have to license it and register it just F.Y I

The title is still misleading. You got problems with an old outboard engine, it has nothing to do with the inflatable at all.

you should name your video "how my outboard failed" . your inflatable did not fail. i have inflatables for years and those are well known difficulties with them - aluminum floor is usually for people who keep the boat inflated all the times (pain to put floor in and out), inflatable floor is for people who roll the boat after every trip. they are very susceptible to cross winds and rowing one is pain.

Seeing hes using a old 2 stroke its probably just the carb needs some cleaning. Best to run them full throttle for a while after not using..(after warm up).

It was the setup/breakdown that steered me away, (2:10) along with the other reasons you listed. I didn't try to imply the boat failed, only that my idea was a fail, which I tried to explain in my reasons for why I sold it. This video was an update to previous video where I purchased this boat.

@@mvboutdoors After 5-6 years use these inflatable boats fail anyways.. better spend ur money on a alu one! A 14 foot is nice aswell.. i have to walk my boat in on most waters (I hate fishing where big boats go). So i opted for a smaller one, keeping it light as possible, going to add livescope this spring! looking forward to it! I too think you should change the video title. It's very misleading. Not to be mean here, but it seems like the BRIS 10.8 wasn't a fail, you were. What I mean is; you didn't really weigh out the pluses and minuses before jumping into it. Further, you abandoned the inflatable because you noted it would be better if you had a trailer... then you went with an aluminum boat which I'm sure required a... yep, trailer. Like you; I also sold my BRIS 10.8, but not for the reasons you sold yours. In my experience, the 10.8 just didn't have enough room inside, with the front tube taking a big chunk out of the interior space. After selling my BRIS 10.8, I bought their 11' inflatable catamaran. Coupled with a Suzuki 15 HP, it has plenty of power to pull up an adult on a knee board, WITH two adults in the boat as well. It's got plenty of room to load in the grand-kids and go wave-bashing too. When running it alone, I have to be careful not to catch too much air, as I can tell it would flip pretty easily if I wasn't watching what's going on. So why do I love mine, and you hated yours? It's likely due to the fact that I already had an 8x10 flatbed snowmobile trailer, and that's what I use to transport my boat. When I'm not out on the water, I have the boat (minus motor) hoisted up to the ceiling of my garage, so it's never in the way. That's not something you could do with an aluminum boat that would weigh in at 3x what the inflatable weighs. My trailer also does double-duty hauling my RZR, which is not something you could do with a conventional boat trailer. In the end; to each his own. I'm glad you're happy with your choice. Hopefully, it will work out for you in the long run.

Appreciate your feedback! I've updated the title to make it more clear the video is about why I didn't like the inflatable and not that it failed on me. In response to your feedback, my intention going into the inflatable was so that I didn't need a trailer and could quickly get on and off the water. Unfortunately that ended up not being the case. You're right that I did end up with a trailer but that was part of the learning experience. An 11' catamaran sounds awesome, I've seen some videos on those and they look really fun. Maybe it's something I'll check out in the future, aside from the setup the boat also felt pretty small to me so I can see why you made the upgrade.

I have a 3.8M BRIS boat since 2018. I took it to Fraser Island ( Queensland, Australia ) for a month ( packed into trailer ) on a 4X4 trip. I installed "beach" wheels on the transom to facilitate moving into/out of water. I have a Merc 25HP 2 stroke on it. I also installed under the aluminum deck a Whale Supersub bilge pump. Also have a Simrad GO XSE 9" finder. Added a Bimini with a Renogy 175W Solar Panel on top, and a homemade 50Ah Lithium battery box to run bilge/ GPS and a portable live well tank. The Solar panel goes to a Victron DC/DC charger then to battery box. It has served me EXTREMELY well for the price. Bought off Ebay new. No it is not a Zodiac or similar, but for the price at the time around $1200 Australian Dollars, is excellent. I am going to swap the Merc for a Yamaha F25 4 stroke, as I want the economy, the lighter weight, and more importantly - the F25 has an alternator - so I can charge the lithium battery both off solar and the engine, and want to add a trolling motor. Yeah the F25 is around $4K new but worth it. Also bought a 2nd hand custom trailer for it, and is super easy to deploy/retrieve etc. I have used inflatable boats for 20+ years, first up in the High Canadian Arctic in the Beaufort Sea ( Arctic Ocean ) in Summer. Never been scared to go anywhere - they are great. The boat I had up there was a 15y.o Zodiac Futura Mk2 with a 20 HP Johnson ( bought new), I bought off an elderly Inuit ( Eskimo ) man. It was unreal!. I am looking at getting a Inflatable RIB like a BRIG or similar 7 to 8 meter boat with twin outboards to explore the Great Barrier Reef, and also the Kimberley's in NW Western Australia. The New Zealand brand/made Protector boats are excellent. They are light, dependable, massively sea worthy and safe. I might even install a Sea Keeper gyro. Can't go wrong with RIB/Inflatables Just my Dime's worth!. P.S - Look at what Military/Coast Guard/ Navy/ SF etc all use - all Rigid Hull Inflatables!!!

Bought mine a couple of months ago but have yet to get it in the water. Planning on taking it to the keys so I wanted to prep, make mods, and get the hang of assembly and disassembly. First of all I agree it is an absolute pain to assemble and disassemble. I plan on installing a couple of straps on the last two floor pieces so I can maneuver them in and out of place easier. I also built my own dolly with harbor freight 10 inch castor wheels. 20hp tohatsu is less than 100 pounds but awkward to handle. At 67 years old but in very good shape the whole thing has been a pita but since I have a boat slip to use in the keys for 3 months I don’t have to go through the process often (hopefully only once).

I agree. I'm also looking into getting an inflatable to take down the keys. 1) it'll be our first boat 2) we go down to the keys 3-4 times a year 3) we both have cars 4) we'll probably only use it when we do drive down to the keys For me personally, I don't have a problem with setup 3x a year, but if you're a person that plans to use a boat 2-3x a month, clearly an inflatable may not be for you. If you have the means, space, and ability to tow, you're probably better off getting something you can put on a trailer. I think people miss the point of getting an inflatable.

I bought a 1236 for portable fishing.. have it on a (non boat) trailer. Much less work with setting up and then also putting it away... Also a alu boat doesnt go bad just get a second hand one u can even sell it for more 10 years later. I only use a trolling motor on mine (on a lithium) that way i dont have the hasstle with the motor (thats heavy stuff also). I would reccomend getting some sailing/stadium seats (like comfort seats) that u dont have to fix in position, very handy.

The most significant reason to buy a foldable soft inflatable bottom boat (SIB) is it's portability even in a small segment-B car, and no need for a trailer, no need to modify your car , upgrade to a 4x4, or upgrade your driver license for the trailer, or find a place to park the trailer... If you already have a 4x4 truck, trailer, and a garage, then why buy a SIB? Selling it was the right choice
@mvboutdoors

My original desire was to quickly get on the water without needing a trailer, I think going with an inflatable floor would have made things easier in that regard. But also, you never know what you like until you try. I hope no one takes this video as a dig into inflatable boats because they are definitely a good fit for certain people but I wanted to give my impression so people know what to expect if they aren't sure what to go with. For me it didn't work out, but like you said for people with small cars or the inability to use a trailer I think they could make it work for sure.

Maybe he should just get an under 60# o/b 6hp or 5hp LPG (bring the mini bbq for shore and more storage options - no fumes)) and save your back and wallet when you want to go putting around? Needs at least a mid-sized RIB to me... and maybe a more efficient engine. Putting still beats rowing in an inflatable. Should he replace the inflatable boat (he already has a big boat for big boat stuff... even solo w speed), get a smaller efficient lightweight outboard, or sell and replace both with better choices? He never really points out what kind of performance he is expecting. Ideas?

Many people are happy to drive up to an hour to get to a boat ramp, then resent 10-15 minutes setting up. Wow. The sailboat owner should obviously just throw in the towel. I rejected the boat because I didn't want to deal with the setup and breakdown process every time I use it. The goal of it for me was to have a quick way to get on the water; spending an hour inflating and deflating each time defeats that purpose. If you are not able to use a trailer, this would be a price you pay for portability but that's not my situation. So as I said, it's not for me. Doesn't mean it won't work for other people in different situations. The outboard trouble didn't influence my decision to not use an inflatable.
