Yes about Russell groups! I constantly have people laugh at me for going to an ex-poly (especially because the other uni in the city is Russell group) but my course had great modules, 100% student satisfaction and lots of lab work! I loved every minute

That's so true people should be less toxic about whether you went to a Russel group uni or not 💖

Fantastic video Rosie! Love your content 😌 I totally agree about not judging unis based on whether they are Russel Group or not or how highly they are ranked! I didn't go to a Russel group uni for my BSc (even though I got the grades) because I knew some specifics I wanted out of my course which not all unis did. The same with the MSc I'm now studying. It's a different uni (still not Russel group) and it is a very niche course that will give me all the skills and experience I need for the career I want to go into. Like your course, it's very practical based and is also very well known in the sector I'm going into. Sorry for this mini essay, but I think this is quite an important topic and sometimes I think people can almost 'look down' at you for not going to a Russel group uni.

Bones is definitely a must watch. I’ve just rewatched it again. I’m just at the part where you’re talking about pet peeves of media representation, Bones has multiple specialists working on each murder. Obviously some of it is dramatised but I think because Kathy Reichs is a producer it’s probably more realistic than other shows.

Hey there! This is truly an eye opener for those who consider pursuing masters in such Uni to be a downgrade! Even my friends too asked me the same (by the way, I'm pursuing MSc in Aerospace Dynamics here at Cranfield Uni)! Thank you soo much for posting this video! I hope it'll be really helpful!😄

Omg this comment is really late because i just found your channel yesterday LOL but I really love your videos! I would LOVE to have a reaction series of you watching Bones because it was my favorite TV show when I was like 13, and I would love to hear more about the inaccuracies or critiques :) I can also appreciate the fact that you're in forensics because I'm actually a master's student in the U.S. studying applied intelligence! So I know it's not the same thing -- I'm not science-based at all, more technology/data focused -- but I'm trying to go into law enforcement intelligence so I feel like forensics and law enforcement intel can be closely related! Anyways, love your videos a lot and they are helping me stay motivated right now as I struggle to finish my semester assignments!!

I'm currently doing a MSc part time as I work full time. I have just started my second year. I found my first year really interesting and enjoyable. Juggling the MSc with work has been challenging as I'm an emergency planner so all I've done this year is respond to covid. Very long days trying to keep people safe and then chip away at my assignments. You're right though, you should choose your Masters carefully and go with what you enjoy and want to do. That will make the experience much more enjoyable and successful. I'm convinced that if I didn't enjoy mine I would have dropped out by now because of covid pressures. Working 55 to 60 hour weeks for 9 months takes it out of you (especially when you're only paid for 37). Keep up the good work, follow your dream and succeed. Life is hard work but it pays off.

as someone who has lived in bedfordshire (just a bus ride from cranfield in bedford) and studied at the bedfordshire university in luton,, cranfield is personally a great place as i have relatives who lived there who know staff from the university and you are right it is still highly acclaimed in the field of forensics. recent forensic science graduate - pet peeves - just little to no PPE, too many people in one place while forensic people are there. i am known to scream at the tv

My daughter is at a none Russell Group uni because it specialises in what she is going to do in physics, and is highly ranked in that specific subject, plus the many internship opportunities her uni can bring. And student satisfaction is very high there.

Loved this video, especially addressing that the name becomes less important at the graduate level! Found this hard myself, and I think it should be practiced more at the undergraduate level. Also looking forward to the Bones series (love the show). I did have a question as a follow up to one of the questions you were asked. I know at least here in the states, what could be seen as "tension" exists between the "hard" sciences of STEM and the "soft" sciences of the Social Science (i.e Anthropology). I was wondering if that tension exists in the UK, because I think here in the States Archaeology and any vein of Anthropology is viewed as non-STEM.
@RosieCrawford
@RosieCrawford 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah archaeology and anthropology are definitely seen as Social Sciences - or they were at Oxford anyway. It was frustrating because half of archaeology is hard science. Now I'm doing specifically Forensic Archaeology and Anthropolog, I would say it was considered STEM because I'm only doing the sciency stuff :)

*Good for you in your educational decisions* ! *The University's Status* doesn't mean a thing, or get you the *Peace within* about your academics, if the Univ. plan isn't moving you forward to your academic *long-term goals* . May look good on a paper degree, but could pull you *backwards* , in terms of a "happy, peaceful" career goal plans. I graduated from a *Little community college* , and is getting $110/hr job offers in this Pandemic. *Thank you little college* . I am proud to call myself an alumni of it. *Stay happy Rosie, and let God guide you* ! Good luck in *All* of your career goals!

my dream masters was at Oxford - arch sci MSc only issue is the way it is examined, I am NOT good at tests or exams (in that sense ) so I had to really chose whether or not Oxford would be the right fit for me. or stay at my (admittedly) RG uni which specialises in my area (time wise) of interest. + fees were 15k 🥴 my lecturers, were hella supportive of me applying for the masters at Oxford, my tutor did comment about the methods of examination (he went to Oxford) not in a bad way. So for me it ultimately came down to, what is the right study environment and how do i learn best? & my UG uni was where it lied. (I love my uni ✌🏻)

Yesss absolutely! I was the exact same re Oxford's master's vs Cranfield. I was ready to not have 80% of my grade come from exams again bc i thought i deserved to be examined in a way that isn't just memory you know?

I have looked at Cranfield MSc courses before, I think nearly all of them have a group project which counts for a big part of the degree. How do you feel about that? I would find it challenging if there is a group member who doesn't put in the required effort or is uncooperative. At least in my normal life or job, I am then free to choose who I associate myself with.
@RosieCrawford
@RosieCrawford 3 жыл бұрын
Oh I definitely don't have that on my course. I'm not a fan of being marked as a group ;)

@@RosieCrawford I had look again. Yes, of course you are right. Most Cranfield courses have 20% group project, but there are a few which don't. I might apply one day.
