To put the cherry on top I just had 2 wall stations go bad on the same kind of opener. Both where not even a year old yet. You will find the left over parts on ebay happy bidding.🙂

Had one 8500 installed because the installer/garage door business told me my worries were over because this was the Cadillac of openers. That was 5 years ago. Long story short, I hate it. It failed just after approximately 3 years. The business who installed it went out of business. I had the company who took over come out to " repair" the 8500. I was told lift Master 8500 had some big issues. I paid 250 bucks to repair. Less than 6 months later, I am now opening and closing my garage door by hand. I hate this unit.

Thanks for your videos man theyre great. Im an installer and i just have a few things. For one, that 8500 would of ran the door fine if the tracks werent so tight. So no matter what motor is installed the door is going to run like shit if thats the case. For two, you're never ever ever supposed to install compression bumpers with a jackshaft or you'll throw cables. For three, the cable monitor isn't there to hold tension but to alert the motor if the cables slack. The jerking of the panels when going through the radius is definitely an annoyance but that could be solved by getting the 8500W instead because that motor does run smoother. Or save the 8500 for a heavier door. ✌🏼

I have Genie’s and have been thinking of upgrading to 8500’s! Have two single car Garages and one two car garage!

If your able to do a Traditional style opener always go that route. I would only use the 8500 in a Clearance situation that's my 2 cents

I agree! There are certain applications the 8500 should be used in, especially tall doors even with pusher springs can be sketchy. One thing I like about Genies new C rails and I see you've discovered this to, its easy to mount a center hang to.

Yes the genie saves the day. Plus you can slam it to the ceiling with no worries of a trolley hanging up on any cross beams.

Not a fan of jackshafts either....we carry the 8500W and I hate that thing. Most of our motor callbacks are from those. Excessive opening/closing force, throwing cables, lock malfunction, cable tensioner malfunction....such a headache.

Just at cable tensioners and your problem is solved

Just saying, on some bigger doors you don't really need to mess with the lock on these... I'm glad you didn't install them. It's 1) More issues and 2) they would be lifting the dead weight of the door anyway, i mean if someone really wanted to get in they could but especially a 14x12 like this one is really heavy.

So, you admit to the tracks being to tight... yet you failed to correct it. I understand time is money yet you knowingly walked away from a job that wasn’t completed.
