If they were women with the same inherent psychological makeup as women, they wouldn't want to go into women's spaces. They wouldn't need to be told how threatening it can be for women to have a fully intact biological male in their changing room trying to present as a woman. They would know, just as we could understand exactly what Kellie-Jay felt in that moment when she heard a man's voice in McDonald's toilets. When they *demand* access to these spaces, knowing full well that they are intimidating women and girls, then you just know that there is something more going on here than a belief that they're women.

I’m a gay man and I agree 1000% with her. I don’t personally advocate for this and I have never used the woman’s bathroom. I go to men’s room and I’ve been completely fine. I wouldn’t want a woman in the men’s room because I would feel embarrassed. I have no issue with sex segregated establishments. Just recently I found myself arguing with a drag queen about the ordeal. I asked him if a trans woman is a woman in the same fashion as his mother. He stuttered and knew I was correct.

We teach our daughters about stranger danger which includes in public toilets. I was at your Auckland rally and left as soon as the mood changed and I felt unsafe. On the way to catch my bus home I popped into the Auckland Art Gallery to use their toilet, there was a sign to the effect that you could use whichever toilet to which you assigned your gender. Already feeling unsafe from the rally in the park next door, I found this confronting. I emailed the gallery when I got home only to receive a reply that they had a tick of approval from the LGBGT community for their inclusiveness but there was no acknowledgment of my reference to stranger danger and how apprehensive I felt.

This sums it up nicely: men in spaces they shouldn't be is a real risk to women. (6:05) And if those men who keep pushing their way into women's spaces by posing as women were, actually, women, they wouldn't do that. Because they wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings or make women afraid. I like Kelly-Jay a lot. So forthright, so astute. I'm a woman who is extremely comfortable around men. I can walk into a room full of men and just say, "Hey guys!" No fear. Nothing. I can do that comfortably, because there are established social boundaries. These boundaries are clear, and are not easily misunderstood. So all the times I find myself in a room full of males, I feel comfortable. I know this isn't every woman. Every woman has different experiences with men. Different women have different temperaments and tolerance levels. This is just my personal experience. My point is, whether you're fully comfortable around a group of men like me, or you're completely uncomfortable , boundaries play a huge role in our interactions with men. The trans movement skews these boundaries. You can't even define a woman! Let alone establish boundaries. One boundary is "No means no and I don't have to explain myself." I don't owe a man an answer for why I don't want to date him when I'm attracted to men. I say "No" to a transman, I'm going to be forced to give an explanation because they have to make sure that I'm "not transphobic" and I'm a "safe person." Never mind all the practical and legit reasons not to date a transman. Mostly our lives having to revolve around medical complications and revisions to a surgery you voluntarily subjected yourself to. Or being trans is a red flag that you probably have other issues that are ongoing and not being properly treated because we don't properly treat trans people once we transition them for whatever reason. Or that your fake dick is really unattractive. Or maybe I'm a younger woman who isn't the sleep around type and does want a family in my future. All of that is transphobic to say. Especially the last one where I'm a woman who has to put aside something good and wholesome that I want, that plenty of men also want and can deliver on, because some trans person will have "his" feel feels hurt.

I don't fear men but I wouldn't want to be in a changing room with one or walk down a dark alley alone with a man I dint know. I'd imagine most women would feel the same. That said, no man I've ever known would dare think of entering female facilities, spaces, etc. I've had men cross the street at night or shout, 'its ok' as they could sense I was scared and uncomfortable. Decent men respect women and their boundaries and can detect when women feel scared and of course decent men wouldn't want women to feel like that which is most men.

Brilliant paramedics, while I was in the ambulance parked outside my house, discovered I was having a heart attack + also searched for the right hospital for me. That night I had emergency surgery 3stents then taken to Coronary Care Unit where there were 3beds, 2 occupied by men. @@KickRocks-me7hh The established science was, and remains, that males cannot become females and vice versa (no matter how many drugs and no matter how much cosmetic surgery). That is reality. Trans is a preference, no more, no less. If it was science based, with a medical, and not an emotional or imagination base, it would be so straightforward that someone who believed he or she was "trans" would present with some kind of symptom/s other than "I feel ..." and the professional would refer that person for some kind of tests/scans and that would indicate something. With those results the professional would then prescribe treatment. That is not what happens because there is nothing "trans" to be found in any physiology. When people believe that they are trans and have surgery, the, e.g. mastectomy, it does not heal anything, nor is the person's life extended by one second. No pathology is corrected. For men who want to claim they are women and vice versa the surgery is purely cosmetic. Sex is binary and cannot be changed - except in the mind of the person who suffers such a delusion.

What you say doesn't make sense because you're looking at the wrong problem. Being "trans" means how you appear does not match who you are. Gender dysphoria means you've developed a personality / mind associated with the opposite sex. (Since there's no such thing as a female brain it should be easy to produce a female personality in a male body.) People with gender dysphoria change their sexual appearance so they can actually function in society. But if you would prefer us in hospitals, I could really use the rest.

I agree 100% with KJK with this and I also would not use the "she" for a man in English no matter how much he wanted me to do it, but I want to add my Finnish point of view: In Finnish language we only have one word for both he and she and that is "hän". So we don't have to have this conversation. Finnish language has gender only in words like mother/father = äiti/isä, sister/brother = sisko/veli, aunt/uncle = täti/setä etc. But other than that it is genderless. I consider myself to have feminist values (not a male hater and am not entitle to be paid for males work when I can't physically do it) and also believe this normalizing male fetish as dressing as women is weird, I don't even know how to think why men want to compete in women sports but that has nothing to do with feminism. "So you are saying trans women aren't women?" The answer to that question is in the question, because simply the need for the word "trans women" indicates that they are not women. You can argue " But is a homosexual man not a man just because he wants to be in a realationship with another man?" That fact does not encrouch in any way on lives of heterosexual men if the gay man is a respectful person.

I totally agree with KJK on trans issues. I believe that her comments on mothers and work are meant to convey that mothers would stay home if they could afford it. However, my take on why they don’t has more to do with men abusing their position as breadwinner to subjugate women into circumstances that are not equal or fair. Also, men sometimes leave their families and women who have not maintained their careers are vulnerable to being thrown into poverty. There needs to be a workable system that ensures female Labour in the home is assigned a value and that any income generated by a working parent is fully available to the parent who cares for the home and family. There also needs to be much stricter rules on the payment of child support and this money should be transferred at the salary payment level.

At my brutally tough all-boys' grammar school in the 1970s, genital comparing was openly encouraged as a means of socialisation and character forming. Completely open urinals that you could use only at 2 points in the day, and compulsory showers after PE 3 times a week, in fully open changing rooms, where the male teachers would wander round, obviously checking you out, facilitated this, deliberately. In one religious education class, dealing with Judaeism, the teacher asked who in the class had been circumcised. 99% were intact and in my view self-evidently proud of it (there were no Jewish or Muslim boys there then - this was 1973). Sadly, I was one of the 1% who'd had the misfortune to be circumcised on probably unnecessary medical grounds. I received tons of body-shaming on that account, which traumatised me. Eventually I regrew my foreskin (yes, it IS possible to regrow an aesthetic replica foreskin albeit it won't have the same functionality as the original, although plenty of misguided hygiene freaks are desperate to deny this.) Use of public urinals is now far less of a stressful experience. The population is expanding and public toilet provision is not expanding to cope with this demand. Sometimes there are just two urinal bowls and 1 cubicle for a whole town. Consequently urinating in closer proximity to others than most would wish is increasingly unavoidable. For this reason all urinals in publicly-accessible buildings should be screened like ballot boxes, by law. You won't get local authorities and private companies doing this voluntarily; they are known for penny-pinching. I too experience other men using the urinal next to me when others further away are available (it bothers me less now I've got my foreskin back and am in with the "in" crowd - the UK is a majority genitally-intact country, thank God), but wouldn't go as far as to suggest that urinals should be banned altogether, as is occasionally proposed. They have no place in schools, for sure, but if you were to ban them outright in all publicly-accessible buildings, that would give a green light to penny pinching public and private bodies to reduce ALL toilet provision or, worse still, convert all their toilets to gender neutral ones. We need to be extremely careful what we wish for.

Our city council of men and women push for men in women's spaces, except for one man. We were asked to give our opinion and I wrote to the council my opinion on a vote on this matter that was coming up. Only one person responded. I wrote that the law allow me to go into the men's because honestly, hardly anyone used the male space. Homeless men, men with children, men with their partners, men in dresses, men with a sex partner and not wanting to pay for a motel, used the women's spaces. Well, the bill passed that in government buildings, you have to be a female to use the female spaces and I was not allowed to use the men's as you have to be a biological male for that. I told the church choir about this and they cancelled me as one of them said that women who don't want men in dresses in female spaces are haters and probably racist as black men in dresses are probably made to feel unwanted. "Feminism" is more vague and meaningless than the left's idea of "gender". The specific positions of "feminism" shift 180 degrees, depending which """feminist""" you ask. -Does "feminism" see "transwomen" as entitled males, invading women's spaces? Or as sisters, and the MOST oppressed kind of woman? (the answer is BOTH, depending which "feminist" you ask...) -Does "feminism" see pcrn as exploitative, misogynist, and oppressive? Or as a healthy, positive tool of liberation? -Does "feminism" see marriage and the nuclear family as an inherently patriarchal tool for oppressing women, that must be destroyed? Or as a valid choice for women to make, which "feminism" respects and supports? Hell, there's a significant percentage of self-declared "feminists", who say that the hijab and even burqa are super-duper "feminist", and represent women's autonomy, and right to dress how they want... "Feminism" HAS NO consistent meaning or positions, beyond vague non-statements about "empowering women" (to wear her burqa? To get you to subscribe to her OnlyFans? To not have to hide her penis, in the women's dressing-room?)

@@r-platt Sex chromosome Chromosome involved in sex determination The predominant sex chromosomes in humans are the X and Y chromosomes. These chromosomes play a crucial role in determining the biological sex of an individual. X Chromosome The X chromosome is one of the two sex chromosomes in humans, and it is present in both males and females. Females have two X chromosomes (46, XX), while males have one X and one Y chromosome (46, XY). Y Chromosome The Y chromosome is the other sex chromosome in humans, and it is present only in males. The Y chromosome carries the genes that determine maleness, and it is responsible for the development of male characteristics. Key Points The X and Y chromosomes are the predominant sex chromosomes in humans. Females have two X chromosomes (46, XX), while males have one X and one Y chromosome (46, XY). The Y chromosome carries the genes that determine maleness and is responsible for the development of male characteristics. These are predominantly, the chromosomes that continue our species. Yes there are anomalies, however, these anomalies are NOT the drivers of our populace. Yes, assumptions can be made and are usually corrected with intelligent conversation. My original comment was specific to "trans" where a biological male believes himself to be a "real woman". That means, he has somehow transformed from a biological XY to a biological XX. I agree with you, its disappointing that she puts such a negative spin on feminism (although that is somewhat down to the muddying of what it actually means these days) especially as she acknowledges that without it, at least in its earlier incarnations, women like her wouldn't have a platform and a voice. Someone once described feminism to me as not saying that men and women are equal physically (i.e. we acknowledge that men are stronger for example) but that it is about equal value, that we can be valued for more than just our baby making abilities and contribute our minds, our skills, our opinions etc to society as much as any man and to have the opportunity to do so. That to me is the core of feminism. On a side note, I just finished watching the Suranne Jones documentary about witch trials, that inherent link between women, past and present, was very much a part of it and there are some interesting points about not just the 17th Century but also now and the past 400 years, that it seems when women are deemed to be making too much noise efforts are made to silence them by branding them troublemakers, witches or "feminists" (with a tone of disdain) and this repeats throughout history in various guises. Its fascinating the social conditioning (conscious or otherwise) that has passed down the generations of women over hundreds of years. And one woman interviewee noted that we have equality in law but not necessarily socially and I think that's what modern feminism should be about, continuing to push for that equal value in society and also helping the cause of women in countries for whom even the laws are not equal.
