Hundreds of Saudi women flee the conservative kingdom every year and run away to Western countries over allegations of domestic abuse and oppression back home.
One popular destination is the UK, where dozens seek asylum every year.
Hanan Razek met two people who explain how they risked everything to flee from Saudi Arabia.

I am Asian woman who worked in saudi for three years, after the first year I wanted to travel to Egypt alone but the government relations officer didn’t want to give me an exit-return paper until I get a letter of permission from my father. I told him, I am not a Saudi woman, at 18 I am already considered an adult and certainly at 26, I don’t need permission to go anywhere. When I arrived here in Jeddah, you didn’t ask for that letter. He approved right away and I was able travel to Egypt and other countries in the succeeding years.

I totally agree with you. Women should have freedom as an adult woman. I thought that the reason for this so colled guardianship laws was to keep their women protected from crimes against them, which could be done by men in general out in society, which could happen when and if they go out alone. They say that the women cannot go out without taking a man of the family with them in Muslim culture. Now I'm all for protecting your wives and daughters from attacks and rape from men/boys in the streets or kidnapping by sending someone out with them to help keep them safe, but to have laws in place to keep them under lock and key should they want to leave the country, that is wrong. I understand that any caring person wants to keep their family safe, but you cannot take way all of a person's freedoms to do everything. How will they learn and grow? There has to be a better way, a right way. Keeping people hostage is not the way and beating them when they don't go along with your way of living.

Rawda starts from the assumption of healthy loving families with open minds. Under such conditions the guardianship law would not cause a lot of problems. When the father - or husband for that matter - is abusive things become dangerous. Facit is that no human being - man or woman - should have absolute power over another human being. Absolute power corrupts.

YAHWEH SalvationinChrist that Allah is a ‘deceiver’, and a ‘liar’, dealing with the word used in 8:58, 7:99 And 3:54. The verse we are going to examine is the following: Transliteration: Wamakaroo wamakara Allahu waAllahu khayru almakireena Translation: “And the disbelievers planned, but Allah planned. And Allah is the best of planners.” - Quran 3:54 The historical background for the verse is that the Jews ‘planned’ evil in order to get Jesus arrested and crucified. And Allah in the verse says as they planned evil, so too Allah planned to thwart their wicked plan. Christian missionaries have an issue with the words used for both the Jews and Allah. They prefer to translate this way: “and [they] deceived and Allah deceived and Allah is the best of deceivers” The above translation does not exist. It is only made up by crazy deluded missionaries in order to lead people astray. Arabic word(s) makr, Makara can be used negatively and for good. So when the Jews planned to get Jesus arrested and crucified, that was evil, whereas when Allah thwarted their evil plan by saving Jesus, this was good. So, the claim by missionaries that Allah is a deceiver for helping one of the Prophet’s from slaughter at the hands of evil, wicked people, these claims have no bearing on the passage historically. Islamic scholar, Maulana Muhammad Shaffi mentions in his commentary on the verse that Allah’s planning involved no deception: “In these verses the miraculous event of the Ascension of Sayyidna Isa (Jesus Christ) has been mentioned. ‘And they made a move’ refers to the evil designs of the Jews who planned to arrest him and to get him crucified. The next sentence i.e., ‘and Allah made a move’ refers to the plan designed by Allah Almighty to save his Prophet Isa (Jesus) from their ill designs. Let us begin with … translated as ‘and Allah is the best of those who make moves’. The word, makr in Arabic denotes a subtle and secret move or plan. If this is for a good purpose, it is good; and if this is for a bad purpose, it is bad. It is why the restriction of saiyy (… : evil) was placed with makr (…: move, plan) in: … (And evil plan besets none but its perpetrator - 35:43).” Maulana Muhammad Shaffi goes further on the word (‘Makr’) in volume 4 and writes: “The word … (Makr) used in verse 21:… (say, ‘Allah is more swift in making plans’) means secret plan or move that could be good or bad. Whenever this word has become a part of the local language, care should be taken that it is not rendered as deception’. … It is obvious that Allah Ta’ala is free from it. The warning given in verse 23: … (your rebellion is, in fact, against your own-selves) tells us that the curse of injustice is certain and, much before matters are settled in the hereafter, one who is guilty of doing injustice must suffer from its evil consequences in this world as well. The Holy Prophet has said: ‘Allah Ta’ala hastens to repay mercy shown to relatives and favour done to people (whereby its blessings start becoming visible in this world, much before the Hereafter). And He hastens to repay injustices done and relationships severed (in that its consequences have to be faced within the life of this world). (reported by Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah with a hasan chain of narrators) In another Hadith narrated by Sayyidah A’ishah…, the Holy Prophet said, ‘there are three sins the curse whereof falls on the sinner himself: Injustice, breach of trust and deception.’ (Reported by Abu ash-Shaykh and Ibn Marduwayh in Tafsir) (See Mazhari). Scholar Maulana Muhammad Ali 54a. Makr is explained by R as the turning of another with ingenuity or skill from that which he aims at, and he considers makr as of two sorts, a good one and an evil one. Therefore the best interpretation of the word Makara (including both sorts) is that adopted by T, viz he exercised craft, cunning, art, or skill in the management or ordering of affairs with excellent consideration or deliberation, and ability to manage according to his own free will (LL). The idea of the plan being contrived for an evil purpose or clandestinely, which is included in the significance of the word, has led many to take that idea as its exclusive significance, which is not the case. Makar-Llahu may also signify that Allah recompensed or requited them for their makr (T-LL). According to some, its original significance is the gathering of an affair and its strengthening (Rz). All these explanations show that it is the equivalent of the word plan, the good or evil nature of the plan being dependent on the object or doer’s intention. Allah is called here Khair al-makarin or the Best of planners, the qualifying word khair being inapplicable to an evil object. 54b. The Jews planned to put Jesus to death by crucifixion, and Allah made a plan to frustrate their plans; and Allah’s plan was successful… Glossary Of Islamic Terms: English-Arabic - Anwer Mahmoud Zanaty: MAKR Has two meanings: 1. Plotting or planning evil intent. 2. Planning for a good purpose: ‘Wa Makaru wa Makara Allah wa’LLahu Khairul Makereen’ (Surah Aali Imran 3:54. They planned and Allah planned and Allah is the best of planners’. Makara = they plotted. Makara = He planned. Makkar = plotter. Makereen = plotters. The meaning of the Noble Qur’an - Abdullah Yusuf Ali 6078: Makara is applied both to plotting with an evil purpose and planning with a good purpose. Cf. 3:54, and 0. 392 ‘And the unbelievers plotted and planned, and Allah too planned, and the best of planners is Allah.’ [5] The Message of The Quran - Muhammad Asad 44 Lit., they schemed’ - here referring to those among the Jews who refused to acknowledge Jesus as a prophet and tried to destroy him. The above Islamic scholars make it quite clear that when Makr is used for Allah there is no deception. It depends on the object, hence, was it for a good purpose or evil? When Allah plans to thwart the evil plans of disbelievers against Jesus, that is good. How is this in any way evil? Is it wrong to help an innocent person and stopping an evil plan?

Who wants an ARRANGED MARRIAGE?
@ViolaPressley
@ViolaPressley 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I saw the story of one couple who agreed to do an interview with news reporter where the family had the daughter set up for arranged married but she refused and fought it bravely. She ran away she said and then the family had a man she wanted to married but would not approved locked up. Both the daughter and the man she wanted to married were put in jail. She eventually was able to manage to get out of the country when released from jail, but the man she wanted to married was still being held captive when she got out she reported, wherever this was. She said she truly loved the man she chose and would wait for him and marry him when he gets out that they were trying to fight it legally. The girl's family stated that they would find her and kill her and it did not matter where she went. This video did not at all appear to be any fake news to me but the real deal. They clearly show they don't care what people outside their culture think about their choices and say what they feel with regards to marriage of their children or other. I myself respect all cultures but I ask "How can any person do this to their own child?" We may not be perfect as parents, we sometimes may be hard on them but to want to harm them, destroy their lives and happiness because they don't choose to marry who we want them to, it's not right. Also, to go as far as to say that as a parent you consider that a dishonor and you would kill them, that is a shame. That in my eyes is "going to extremes". It's taking religion and tradition too far. I show respect towards such people, even though I don't agree with some of their ways and thinking. That is their culture and I have no control over what happens in it, but I think that something like this is totally wrong.
@ViolaPressley

The problem with that "protection" Rawda Al-Youssef, is that it is not by choice for women. It is enforced on them. If a woman chooses this "protection" then by all means, she should have it, but the woman of your country do not have the choice. And this is unacceptable...

My heart breaks for any innocent human being, being denied basic human rights weather they are a woman or a man. My prayers go out to those feeling so trapped, and sad of being like a prisoner. Judgement is being made by making assumptions that a person is going to do wrong, and deny them the right to just be a person who has a soul. So just in case, the abuser chooses to give into their own messed up delusional paranoia, and makes a human being whose done nothing wrong, but simply just that they exist, to know their authority, and to always to have that person to feeling punished! This is nothing more than narcissistic abuse, by a control freak with deeply rooted insecurity issues from within themselves! What's worse having those in power with these narcissistic traits teaching that this is even acceptable in the first place!

I’m Muslim , I’m from India and same here.. although lgbt+ rights are also recognised to some extent both are a long way to go but still better than the situations for people in Saudi…The thing is…if you’re rich with libral parents in Saudi…you’ll live you’re life way better than anyone on the planet…there’s comfort living in purdah knowing that People can’t judge you for your face so they can only by your skills…People respecting you…clearing the streets for you…a separate unit in office only for women so they can work…if a god husband all you have to do is enjoy…you’re not even obligated to breastfeed the children you birthed let alone house work…. UNTIL you get in danger or are stuck with abusive parents/husband or have an minority orientation or are Poor…then you’re fucked…if you get raped…there are chances your rapist might accuse you of fornication…no abortions…you’re parents won’t let you leave to a new country to reset your life (hence women flee)…no limited age to marry until recently which means there were cases where fathers sold their baby daughters to old men for money and so on…It’s everywhere that the way poor women experience misogyny is much more graver and dangerous than privileged women…and here even some privileged women are fleeing so I’m even more scared for the poor ones…

Islam literally says to not force your kids into Islam it doesn’t matter how much you force them they won’t become Muslim and the fact that their parents force plays a huge role in that. Forcing someone into doing something they’re not willing to do is also not part of Islam. Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries are taking Islam too far. Yes teach your kids about Islam but let them decide why they want to believe in. I’m Muslim by the way I know what’s up

@kreeesqeeel

Just a quick note: ISLAM IS NOT THE PROBLEM!! It’s the people who abuse and twist the rules to their own benefit who are the problem!!! -The male guardianship system (where the man is meant to accompany the woman when she goes outside) was to protect the women from being molested or attacked from suspicious people. It’s not meant to be used to restrict the women -Women should not be forced to cover. You cannot force her to cover herself - you can tell her to cover, explain the benefits, and leave the decision up to her - but ultimately, it is her own decision to wear a scarf or niqab or abayah -Women should be allowed to choose her own husband - you cannot force her to marry someone she doesn’t want to. Khadija RA herself proposed to Muhammad SAW (if you want a back up) Muslim men: Just because you’ve been given rights and power to look after women doesn’t give you a right to treat them like slaves. Islam gave you rights and responsibility to treat your women like Queens and Princesses - so do your job properly. If Muhammad SAW can treat his wives and daughters with respect, you should have no trouble doing the bare minimum that’s required of you. Just because you go out and work doesn’t make you more important and valid - it’s your women who go through the tough and painful process of childbirth; it’s your women who cook and clean all day and keep your house tidy; it’s your women who selflessly volunteers to raise and bring up your children. Her jobs aren’t easy like you think: respect her and be grateful for her work, because if she wasn’t there, who would have done it? And I’m not trying to make women superior than men but you have to consider that she’s as valid as a person as you are - her gender doesn’t make her any less of a person than men.

So glad someone said it! Saudis pick and mix Islam too, the pick and distorts teachings to favours their societal and political ideas and ignore ones about respect, equality, kindness and good character. Astaghfirullah I hope they realize that they will get punishment too. Just because you are a religious person doesn't mean you're a good human.

Just to give an idea of how things work in Saudi Arabia ,if u as a woman want to wear jeans or have a facebook account "simple things that they see as forbidden for women "and your father brother or husband say no u can not do anything because if you don't except the male leadership you will be beaten to an inch of your life and if you rebuild against their orders and bring shame to them "by wearing jeans ffs" you will be killed or offered for marriage , so whene she said that she enjoyed small victories like planning her day its not egzaturated one bit 💔

This arabian girl is not a true muslimah. Muslimah know what is islamic values. I never forbid my daughter to wear jeans but she understand that wearing tight jeans Will show her body. My daughter has respect for parents opinion and decision. We teach our daughter to appreciate their body by covering herself. Her father and brother are her wali/protector. No man in our family forced children and no children disobey their parents because we put Allah ini their heart. Alhamdulillah nowdays almost Indonesian women wear hijab and teach their children in the islamic way. In Islam, a woman is like a diamond, that's why you have to protect her.
