When I was a kid, my dad made me put my bunny outside (he was on a screened in porch but it was FL and it was too hot in my opinion but I was too little to fight back about it and I inherited the bunny = my sister dumped him on me - if I could do it again now, he would be inside running free-range in the house!). Anyway, I got to the point over the years with my piggies that not only did they have to be inside, but I found I could not stand them being in another room from me! I actually couldn't sleep unless they were in my room. I would have to check on them a zillion times when they lived in another room. I loved their chewing noises, their water-drinking, their wheeking and purring. There is nothing like it! If you want a pet, I just don't get why you wouldn't want it indoors with you - dog, cat, piggy, whatever. But that is just me. I don't see a point to a piggy or pet without spending time with it - loving it!

We have always kept our piggies outside in the past but when one of our guinea pigs past and it wasn't really an option to keep them inside however I would often worry about the guinea pigs outside alone at night so when we realised that our hutch was getting quite old and needed replacing we decided to move the piggies in side, however the cage was waaaaay to small! No they have passed away (at almost 6 years old) we are getting two more (hopefully soon) on a big wooden indoor cage we built ourselves!!! Thank you so much for your videos! They helped is make the move to bring our piggies inside!!?

That was my number 1 criteria when we were talking about getting a pet, they had to live indoors, and we'd move furniture if we had to, to fit them in. We've given up our dining room for our four boys and I wouldn't have it any other way

my 10 piggies are living in a shed (hudge) outside the whole year. its much more work, than keeping them inside, because you have to isolate the shed, change bedding every day, install heatingpads and temperatureregulation. we dont have enough space in the house. i would keep them inside, when i had an extra room for them. a very important subject. thank you. no piggie should freeze!!! no way.

We have to have to have our piggies outside for allergy reasons so we had to attach two hutches and build an extra run for them. We also had to attach fox-proof locks to the hutch door. We have insulated flaps for when it gets cold and we put them in the garage when it’s even colder.

They do enjoy going out in the garden for grass of course in their run during the summer but for me piggies should definitely live indoors where I can pamper them! :-) x ps Your babies have really grown-they're all so cute!

My two boys are outside in a diy wooden, mesh pen that I made with my dad. There is loads of space for them to run around and they have LOADS of cozy blankets that they often snuggle in. I also bought these special guinea pig hot water bottles that we tuck underneath their blankets and they love snoozing on them. 😂 On cold nights we move them and their hot water bottles into a large hutch with blankets to keep them warm. In the day we put them back in their pen so they can run around. We bring them inside everyday and give them lots of cuddles. Our two boys get on very well and love their outside pen. They enjoy lap time and floor time so that they can enjoy exploring in the living room. 😂😂 I go and visit them all the time and i love hearing they excited squeaks when I come out into the garden. Great video by the way xx ❤

We keep our piggies outside all year, but we have proper wall insulation all round hutch and thick covers, plus heat pads for nighttime...we play with them everyday outside in summerhouse so as not to have too many heat changes. In the summer we use fans to keep them cool....honestly they have better conditions than us !!!😘🇬🇧😘

I’ve just gotten my first ever piggies.. a friend of my mums unfortunately had to rehome them. I’m a horticulturalist and gardener. I spend lots of time outdoors and I love having an outdoor hutch and run which I move around the garden to wherever I’m working. And if I’m in the veggie patch I let them run around and chew my brassicas and tomatos. I’ve started planting certain veggies that they like and using hay as mulch so they can munch on that as well. I love having the space outside for them. They spend the night indoors and will be in their inside enclosure when I’m cooking or just not outside as much (ie bad weather) but majority of the day is outside and I think it works best for us. But we shall see as time goes on what’s best. I’m very new to this and trying my best to give them the life they deserve. Thank you for the videos, they’re helping me a lot!

Interesting opinion. It really just depends on your situation . I have a pair of guinea pigs that live outside, due to the landlord and my housemates having special needs. (I wouldn’t want them to get accidentally hurt them and one of housemates is extremely loud. So I personally keep them outside for this reason. My hutch is very large with an attached run and is fox proof. They get their run until it gets dark and then they I shut them in their inside bit with extra hay and heat pad especially during the winter. They love there enclosure and enjoy it a lot. The only noise they get scared of is sirens and there both only 6 months. With taming they’ve already started taking pieces of veg from me hand feeding them.

It's definitely better to keep them inside, they need quite a lot of attention to keep them healthy and well fed. I agree Sarah about predators and the UK temperatures. Hutches outside and in sheds just attract mice and rats and it's easy to forget they haven't been fed, groomed or cleaned in a while if you get busy. They aren't so tame outside and I think smell is a good indication they need cleaning out which is more overlooked in the open air and insects get in the bedding and woodwork. An interactive pet is so much more rewarding, Mine live in the conservatory which is a go-between!

Hello I need advice I have a really big cage outside and 3 parts of the wall are made out of tick stone and then the front is a weird fance and the roof is also a well stone like. It is under a tree and in an enclosed like area were infront there is also a big tree and it is in between a corner were on one side there is a back wall of a hause and the other side a stone wall. My only consern is the wired fance that maybe to much cold can come in during winder but at the same time not as worried as there is many shelter for them to keep worm in that case and during hot times I do not worry as it is in a very shaded area and is normal tempreture during the hottest of days. But mostly wish for your input for winter time as I bulive they will be find as I had sheltered passed animals in the area such as stray baby kittens so I know it's not dangerous but maybe there is somthing I still should know? Please and thank you for your time Ps the flooring is also a stone based and I will bring them inside time to time for bonding time as well as free roaming

Hi there, sorry its hard to get an idea of your cage area and the temperatures you have where you live. How cold does it get in winter? Guinea pigs are very sensitive to the cold and perhaps would be better living inside in the winter. Also make sure the area is secure and no predators can get in.

Hi Squeak Dreams! Today I took my two male piggies out for lap time for the first time. Although they did manage to settle, it was very hard to stop them from wandering into places I didn’t want them too, and when they got two cramped up they tended to get a bit annoy with each other, which i haven’t really seen from them before. They have hiding places and food too. Should I take them out for lap time individually or is that not a good idea? Do you have any tips?
@SqueakDreams
@SqueakDreams 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Phoebe and Roxy are similar - Phoebe will chill out, but Roxy is always crawling over everything, I think her instinct to get back to the cage/somewhere she feels safe is kicking in. With time they will get used to laptime, and as for the nipping at eachother, it sounds like it is just because they are a little stressed, encouraging them to be in slightly separate beds/parts of a blanket helps with this. And yes I think solo lap time is also good to do :) keep at it and they will definitely get more used to it and realise that laptime is for chillaxing!

Her partner and babies had already passed.. she was pretty much dead when I got her. She passed the next day :/ and these folks claimed "they don't know what happened! The pigs died of unknown causes" so upsetting. If it's too hot for you to stay outside, why would you leave your poor babies out to die of heatstroke? The lack of research that people do before getting pets is astounding.
