Holy shit that’s so awesome

It was three lanes moving slow.

Alan Clarke was effectively a co-writer on a lot of Dire Straits tracks although never got credited as a co-writer by Mark Knopfler. Without Alan Clarke's influence, Mark Knopfler's solo career songs weren't anywhere near as good as his Dire Straits material, and the results sounds pretty obvious to this listener.

@@tonyk501 I don’t know, I think foremost Mark’s guitar work is his strongest point. The first album is superb as is Making Movies. Love Over Gold is probably my favorite of the 80s as Brothers In Arms is boring because it has no piano, except for Man’s Too Strong. I always wondered why the acoustic piano was abandoned on that album. On Every Street is pretty generic but has a handful of great songs. Knopfler solo, he tends to go for stories about people and the music and guitar is almost secondary. It’s as if he deliberately shuns the big production of the early years. Regarding Alan, his piano style added class to Dire Straits and brings the music to a higher level. Local Hero is brilliant too because of Clarke, he’s actually in the film in the Ceili band! On Private Dancer by Tina Turner, he shines brightly too. No doubt his contribution is adored by fans as he’s a great and tasteful musician.

@@KRAZEEIZATION I remember reading an interview in which Knopfler stated that he couldn't listen to any of the Dire Straits albums prior to On Every Street due to being unhappy with how those previous albums had been produced.

@@TheHumbuckerboy Well he had a fair hand in the production of Love Over Gold and Brothers In Arms himself! The debut sounds superb. Communiqué and Making Movies were done by big name American producers. I think they all sound fine. Brothers In Arms and On Every Street sound sterile.

@@KRAZEEIZATION Well, this is what Mark said . I own several of the albums on both vinyl and CD and I prefer the vinyl experience when listening to Love Over Gold because the CD quality sounds too cold and polished by comparison IMO. I never liked Brothers in Arms but On Every Street sounds very rich and warm especially on songs such as 'You and Your Friend' and 'Fade to Black' plus Mark said that he really enjoyed the whole experience of actually recording the album.

Who doesn't?

That's arguable as I think Money and Cigarettes or From the Cradle are probably my favorite albums. Another ticket is definitely in the running as well. I say Money and Cigarettes though because of the band that he had and in particular Albert Lee makes for some great trading off on solos. The Shape your In is spectacular and his best ballad Pretty Girl is on that album. Ry Cooder's contributions are noteworthy as well. Hard Times off Journeyman may be his finest vocal he ever recorded.

Journeyman was awesome for solo Clapton but Cream/Derik and the Dominos was Claptons finest. Don't think Adam Clayton participated in Journeyman

Not only this. The title is misleading because in fact, Alan es first in Dire Straits, after the Brothers in Arms your and the Dire Straits stop, he joined to Eric Clapton band, but also Mark Knopfler joined to the band and did a tour with Eric Clapton as left guitar player. O don’t know the reason because the title of the video, but it’s no clear.

The answer is in the video. He left Eric's band because Dire Straits were starting up again with On Every Street in 1991. He could never have done both

But Eric, also joins Mark Knopfler!

DS were not touring or recording between april 86 and 91, so he had all the time in the world to join Eric, but Mark Knopfler also played with Eric on serveral concerts in 87,88 and 89

@@StevenQ74 Because Mark decided DS had run it's journey. It was not the same when he restarted it his heart was not really in it as he didn't see any progression with the band. He also did a lot of work with his hero Bob Dylan and some film music.
