From the outside looking in, people always think living abroad is some kind of idyllic paradise but it's real life - just in another country. There's still all the normal pressures to deal with. We've been going to Corralejo twice a year for about 7 years and you are spot on about the "bad eggs". I really noticed it last time we came in May and June. Being approached by shady characters asking if I wanted Charlie. We go wandering a lot when we're there, but we'll need to be a bit careful and keep our wits about us a bit more. What we loved about the place when we first came was how safe it felt and how it wasn't like the loutish resorts we all know of. It'll be really sad if it starts going down the pan. Living somewhere is completely different to just going for a couple of weeks a year and you're walking around with rose-tinted glasses on. When you're a resident you start to see a side that you don't like. The side the tourists seem to ignore. Anyway David. Good luck with all your endeavours back in Blighty.

We regularly have a week in fuerteventura we go to most of the resorts just got back from morro jable we were in corralejo september and i noticed that the atmosphere in parts of the main street weren't what they were. Well the best of luck in your job hunt.

Best of luck to you. Yeah, Corralejo has changed and there is a nasty element around the town. Noticed last year and worse this year. People who have been visiting for years and don't notice it; well, seriously open your eyes. Authorities there need to wake up. It will (and is) damage the town. Keep up the great work with the videos.

I was there in early October, seamed a lot of beggars around on main st all hours of the day and night. We popped in main street bar 1 evening to say hi..but you had finished the week earlier. Good luck to you both anyhow.

Good luck David, I didn't really cop on career wise until i was in my thirties, so you have a bit of time yet! you do need a career/profession to achieve what you want, as for the undesirables in corrie I used to get approached regularly with broken english whispered YOU WANT SOME CHARLIE? Hi David, thanks for the explanation. I guessed rent and career would be an issue there. Interesting how you indicated another factor .I first came to Corralejo 2003,4 and 5 in the summer with my wife and kids. Since retirement in 20 11 I have been coming a couple of times each winter to escape our weather. The place has changed and the characters you mentioned are more apparent. Also so has the tourist demographic ( i have seen British tourists approaching said characters to make purchases). Still the weather has not changed so I will be there again in a couple of weeks. I always enjoyed bumping into you when I was over there and your informative vlogs. All the best to yourself and Izzie and I think you are making the right decision.

Presumably, by 'bad eggs' you mean drug dealers? Drug dealing does seem to be a growth industry in Corralejo at the moment. Delighted to hear you'll be continuing to vlog.

Very best wishes to you and Izzy ….Always enjoyed your videos……I am fortunate to split my time between UK and Corralejo so I get the best of both worlds …..personally have not noticed the disturbing trend you and some of the comments received refer to …..there have always been Mafia connections to Corralejo and its proximity to North Africa creates additional exposure to potentially people with undesirable intentions……AirBNB, similar short term rental platforms and Digital Nomads with a proper job have probably contributed to the spike in rents……All said and done ultimately if you visit as a Tourist you tend to see things differently compared to people who permanently reside in a place…..UK, Corralejo, Crete …….Best Regards

Totally understand why you went on to leave the island. Corralejo has been on a decline in my opinion. People changed in a negative way. The town is very not clean or keeping up with fixing the streets or buildings. Bad people on the corners at the Atlantic Center. 2020 just changed it negatively. And now to make a living there is difficult. Renting is difficult. Corralejo and the island definitely need a change.

We were sat having a drink outside mainstreet bar one afternoon and the black guy sat under the tree was intimidating everyone who walked past , he even called my wife a white slag ffs.

I'm on my way back from France having considered leaving Fuerteventura the greatest mistake of my life. However I completely understand the many reasons to leave. Seems to me that you will be welcomed back with wide arms when you are about again.

The Spanish people and police mainly don't care they treat you as if you only going to be there once they don't worry about you coming back next year it seems to me plenty of nice Spanish people about though

On vacation there now and hating every minute of it, came here 9 years ago as a teen and it’s so bad here now food has gone down hill even fado rock, all the food in every restaurant is the same food, full of “undesirables” full of mobility scooters, feels like Benidorm and that’s fine if that’s your thing but it’s not mine I bought this as a gift, feel like I’ve wasted my money just want to go home

Is this just like, there’s a bit of sketchy annoying people around corralejo and it can be irritating? Or is it like, if you park your car on the side of the road at the dune park and stay till 11p it’ll get broken into and you might get robbed and stabbed? Is this present around Lajares and cotillo or just around corralejo?
