This is a pretty personal video for me. Not meant to bash PR because it is an amazing place, but to be a super honest review. About 50% of people I know who move there, love it & stay. The rest leave. It's a tropical island, not a good fit for everyone. But I had 50+ people move down over the last few years who had watched my video when I moved 3.5 years ago. So I figured it's only fair to make an update, as this stuff is important to consider!

So if you don't mind my asking, where abouts did you end up moving to? I live in Vegas right now and, eventually, would like to move elsewhere. I'm thinking Florida at the moment or maybe a little further north. Ideally, somewhere green and affordable without crazy left wing politics letting crime run amok. I'm open to suggestions.

@@elbryan9 Honestly Vegas is a good place as it's still affordable, I would either live in Vegas, Austin or Miami, but Miami is way too expensive nowadays. If you want a cooler climate New Hampshire would be good, other cool climate + low tax states will be in the middle of nowhere like Wyoming plus Washington would be too left

It Is a pretty personal video. From an individual with a totally delusional perspective. High gang activity? Dude!! How dare you!!! In United States there’s more than 33 THOUSAND GANGS!!! Cribs, bloods, MS13, trinitarios and your favorite the KKK!! Death, gun fire and gang activity is very normalized here? Normalized? Normalized like school k!llin sprees in United States? Everyone goes back to school the next day like nothing happened. Do you know the number of school shootings in USA last year? 82!!! And this year so far 18!! Do you know how many In Puerto Rico? 0!!! I don’t live behind any gates in PR and I feel pretty safe!! I hear no gun shoots and I’ve never been robbed nor fear for my life. The problem with a lot of Americans is that they go to 3rd world countries like Mexico, Dominican Republic and Colombia and the people bend over backwards to please them for a few $$. Then they come to PR and realize that now only we get pay in dollars, we have no interest in pleasing gringos cuz we don’t need nothing from y’all. And so they realize that their American entitlement just doesn’t work here and so the leave!!! The truth is that Americans have no business moving to PR. Y’all do absolutely nothing for the economy. Y’all only move here to avoid taxes. Y’all segregate as you stated on this video. And y’all only bring separation, racism and disparity. And the end of the day what matters is that you’re gone!!! And I’m truly happy about that!!

I agree with you - I’m in Condado and to be quite honest with you when I go to cafes and they realise I live here I’m treated differently to tourists. They refuse to speak to me in English - ask why I don’t know the language and I’ve been refused service. The whole experience has made me deeply unhappy and I’m 8 months in and returning to the Uk in August

If I need to choose between the crime in Puerto Rico or the crime in the USA mainland give me Puerto Rico all 7 days of the week. 90% of the crime on the island is related to drugs or corruption. You are not going to find a random person shooting in Walmart or a university campus. For me, the deal breaker is the bizarre corruption in the local government.

See here is my problem with comments like yours. You’ve likely NEVER been around a shooting or even shot a gun. You’ve never been pressed or robbed in public. All of your woes in America are literally spoonfed to you through various sources of media fearmongering you, you’ve never experienced any of the things you just said in Walmart or on a campus. In Puerto Rico, you’re a gringo, they are only a territory to America. You’re likely to get fucked up there off of your mindset alone. Targeted MUCH MORE easily as well. Hell I can go as far to say as long as you aren’t a gangbanger, gun violence is only in video games, they only shoot at eachother and rob eachother, no points for civilians. Whites kill whites at a 90% rate in America since the 80s. Blacks mirror the same statistic since the 80s. You’re more likely to be killed by someone of your OWN race than anyone else, and on top of that, you’re more likely to be killed by someone of the same race that You KNOW vs a random person of your race. TL;DR: No need to read, most people ESPECIALLY online get their ideals from various media, never experiencing the things they’ve been made afraid of, never going outside to talk to anyone, just spoonfed and preconceived notions. Tragic

I wouldn't move to Puerto Rico unless you really like Latin America and want to learn Spanish. For the rest it only makes sense for traders who can afford to live in a gringo bubble, but as a business owner you can already lower your taxes quite significantly. I like the west side a lot more than San Juan, you do have less amenities so it doesn't work for everyone. People who visit Puerto Rico and only go to San Juan really miss what the island has to offer.

Thank you for your more general but honest assessment. Unfortunately, Hayden's analysis only better serves the more wealthy, who can hide themselves in gated communities, play golf ever day. And only venture behind their gates when traveling to the airport. It may be true that PR is an island nation. But it is near completely AMERICAN! And which politically is moving closer to statehood. A fact that unfortunately may soon change for most Puertoricans, who don't want to lose their cultural rhythm and lifestyle.

😂 doesn’t make sense if you’re making a killing on tax breaks and you leave because of healthcare 😂 we have hundreds of wealthy individuals who travel back to the US for yearly check ups 😂 so your reasoning is kind of off for me. Also I spent time in the area where the salsa lessons take place, no gun shots have ever been fired in that area 😂 that area is a chill spot surrounded by condos and the beach. I can tell you that sometimes people are financially insecure and they jump into these things expecting to make a lot of money but in his case he made a lot of mistakes. He was always complaining about leaving the island and the island has specific requirements for Act 20 residents. Also if you don’t have family members with you and your a loner if can be lonelier when you’re not a native because island life in PR is slow 😂 like really chill and slow 😂 having an authentic relationship with someone in an island like PR will definitely anchor you there and it’s also healthy for your mental health. If older residents on the island can manage to make it to 70+ years old with the current health care system then you have to ask yourself how and why, finance independence is important but family is very important as it’s more than money can buy.

Good run down. I live in Santurce, and have kept an eye-out for you after seeing one of your previous videos. Great surf culture here, takes effort, but getting in good with the locals out in the water, I have a bunch of amazing surf friends after 3 years here. I think it's important to point out, that we are in for a "horrific" hurricane season this summer as we go into La Niña with record water temps. They are talking about creating a Cat 6 category for hurricanes, saying they will be 150% more destructive than Cat 5! To say I'm concerned is an understatement. Good luck on your next chapter, brother :)

When I was in the Army, we used to moor up at Rosy Roads Naval Base. I didn't even have a cell phone, but I'd borrow one, and have girls come pick me up at the pier. The white guys on the boat hated that I had family and connections on the island without ever having been there as an adult. On one of our deployments, said incels would get hammered on the pier, & one of the dry tacit racists was hollering drunk angry slurs DEMANDING that people speak English b/c "This is America". It's funny how PR was America then but no one would help PR after the hurricane. You know the Island surrounded by big ocean water, thanks for nothing Donny! As far as the economic conditions and corruption they are all 100% incentivised by the US Gov't. When I was studying for my stock brokers license, we were taught to SELL PUERTO RICAN BONDS. The same debt the island cannot recover from and one of the main reasons so much of the island is in poverty. So to all the haters Good Riddance!

@@retrodripsupport7510 Yeah maybe your right, it might be different in the summer. I was there 3 weeks ago, and I saw mostly Americans living and having a good time, and a few Puerto Ricans who were there just working. Well he is right that a bunch of professionals are leaving the island to find better work in the US. But what he didn't mention is that he is kind of the problem to why a lot of Puerto Ricans have to leave the island, with all these wealth y Americans moving in paying less taxes and buying up everything, its raising the cost of living for real Puerto Ricans, so with Puerto Ricans cost of living going up and having to actually pay full high taxes many have had to leave. And I say its kind of his fault because most of it is because of the corrupt Puerto Rican government, I've also seen that the political party in control now that is pushing for Puerto Rico to become a state, they are open about how they know the tax incentives aren't really helping the island and that they are only keeping it up because they are using it as leverage to pressure congress to make the island a state. But with all this going on, I hear there's a giant push for Act60 to be taken down, even financial Gurus like Nomad Capitalist and Wealthy Expat have talked about ACt60 and Puerto Rico and that its very likely going to be taken down in the near future and that they recommend not moving to Puerto Rico just because you want to pay less taxes.

Would you call the ER in Italy and expect them to know English? PR is a Spanish speaking country (and don't come with the US bull cause even the US does not have an official language). PR has supposedly 2 legal languages, but that was established for political reasons, but it's not reality. It's not that we don't care about the shootings, is that 90% of the people who are getting shot, don't care about their lives because they get involved in the drug world. It's very unlikely that you get shot in a robbery or car jacking. We do have a problem with healthcare, mostly due to the medical plans that should be regulated, but they won't pay the provider as they should, so our doctors have a hard time getting that its due to them, specially young doctors with lots of debt from medical schools.
