Why I Left the United States for the Philippines

It's been a great six months in the Philippines! After deciding to leave the United States, I had a lot of challenges: leaving my job, finding online work, and finding out how to budget my money. The first few months were hard, but as time passed things got easier.
In this video, I talk about the United States, money, real estate, the world today and more. Why I chose to live in the Philippines was due to hobbies and passions of mine that I've had since I was a kid. Efren Reyes, Pacquiao and more Filipinos were my idols when I was a kid and growing up, I had thought about moving to the Philippines before. After six months here I can say that I am happier here, I miss the United States, my friends, family and more. But, I prefer it here, I like the slower pace of life, changing my work routines to match my life more than what I was able to do back home.
If this video resonates with anyone that makes me feel like I've done my job explaining and expressing myself, because it's hard for me sometimes to get my thoughts out.
Subscribe, like, and comment, it would mean a lot to see your thoughts or opinions about my video.
Also, people asked for a button or way to donate. This channel is free and more of a passion project so it's not needed. If you'd love to, you may buy me a coffee using this link:

Hi, I'm interested to know what made you decide to live there and where you like to stay? Do you have any problems with making money in a foreign country? The global peace index is pretty low for Phil like the u.s. and Mexico that is why I didn't decide on Phil. I think inflation is high there too.

Interesting hearing a young persons reasons for leaving the dumpster fire..uh.. I mean the US. I’m Filipino living here in Reno Nevada. You nailed it when you said relationship with Filipinos will improve if you speak their native language for the simple reason that you are giving your time and effort to learn and speak their language. Just showing them the effort gives them the idea that you have respect for their culture. Respect is so big in the Philippines.

I've been to the Philippines twice. After passing of my parents at age 44. Then the pandemic came, big reality check. That life, money, and time is precious. I'm going to move there when I turn 50 myself. Congratulations and good luck. Hope I meet with you my fellow American over there.

Bro, life is short. How many years until you turn 50? Let me ask you a deep question. What if what you think takes 3 years to accomplish you had to do in 3 months? Like gun to your head, do or die, make it happen? What would you do? It's possible if you can believe it's possible. I'm moving back to South America this year because I loved it and don't want to waste my life in the boring midwest and horrible taxes and high expenses that we have in the states. Fire, Aim, Ready.

I'm an 80s kid. I grew up watching Hollywood movies and listening to American 🇺🇸 music. I was obsessed with moving there. It seemed like a magical place especially in the early 90s. The desire died down in the late 90s and was kinda revived in early to mid 2000s. After that I really don't care about it anymore. I still plan on moving abroad but to south of Europe

Never forget the speech my Senior DI told me the morning of graduation of basic training. "From now one this your legacy. You became a member of America's military, a US Marine. But our country is dying and you gentlemen must save it or save yourself from it's destruction," I decided its not worth fighting for anymore. I will save myself from the self implosion. I married a Filipina 15 years ago. I met her online, and she is beauty pageant gorgeous - seriously. She takes unbelievably good care of me, unlike my American ex-wife. Sent her to culinary arts school. For many of the same reasons as you stated about life in the U.S., we decided to move back to her home in Cebu. I wanted to learn Cebuano, but my wife told me it was not necessary. So far, it hasn't been an issue. It's summer every day here. 😄

You got yourself a new subscriber. I'm a Filipino who at 13 years old my mom brought me to U.S. After close to 40 years in New Jersey, i moved here in the Philippines. America is a great country and will always be. But i am 55 now and winter months that i hate and few issues with african american neighbors made me decide to move to hot humid, brownout or blackouts too often, slow internet in my island, not so clear water sometimes and still love to stay here until i die hopefully. Anyway WELCOME TO PHILIPPINES. Just be aware and watchout for Filipinas. Some of them will take advantage of you and drain your wallet or you will find the right one if you are looking for a Filipina. Enjoy and Good luck.

Fortunately I don't own a home now either and will be moving over to PH by the end of this year. Welcome to the Philippines! My husband and I are both retired and finally going to the Philippines to retire. We are like others, we are receiving 401k and SS to support us during our retirement. I moved to USA at 24 years old due to economic reasons, met my American husband and have one child. We had experienced the economic roller coaster over time and the political hostility and divisiveness, but fortunately we were able to retire working in the same institution and retired 🎉😮😅. Nothing is easy in this world if you want to succeed. You are a young person, your ideas and plans can change. Enjoy the Philippines while you can and learn from the culture, but keep an open mind that it is beautiful country but not perfect!!!! As long as you have a plan for the future, then go for it. Backpacking is exciting at first but not forever. Good luck and God bless!!!! ❤❤❤

Knowledge of local dialect is the key. Basel(Syrian) and Kulas(Canadian) are two example who brace our culture and are now naturalized citizen. Both speaks fluently tagalog, they can minggle to us comfortly coz they know the language. Us filipinos will always be amazed when seeing foreigners speaks the local dialect and they are happy to see them.

Devan, you are exactly right! Personal relationships increase a thousand fold when at the very least attempt to speak and learn the language. It makes people more comfortable and when that happens, they relax. Open up and become family to you. Yes, there are those that want immigrants from other countries coming into the United States to at least learn the language but the same people will not bother to learn the local language in the Philippines. Oh! It is so hard and other bs reasons. Practice what you preach is what I tell them. Well, welcome to the Philippines. I hope you find your balance here. It is not and will never be ,perfect. But what country is perfect? We try to improve on what we can and we are a very resilient people. We can be found everywhere in the world ( for jobs not available in our country)and we adjust, always! Don’t worry, Be happy!

America is not the same when I first moved here, at least I feel that way. Most everyone has mental issues and is fed with propaganda day in and day out. And the money isn't that good anymore since the cost of living has risen up so much. I'm definitely coming back home after 20 years of staying here and planting my roots back in the Philippines. You're probably one of the most respectful people who visited the country so far. A lot of people don't bother learning the languages here because it "is" easy to just use english. But as you said, if they're the kind of people who demand others to learn the language in their own country, putting in the same effort when they're in other countries is just fair. They don't have to, but it will show that they're decent people and they're consistent. I hope you enjoy your time here and please stay safe. It's really cool to see more young people visiting PH because most of the time, old people just see us as the asian version of florida, a retirement place of sorts haha.
