Yesterday my eight-year-old daughter started asking me to buy her a smartphone, since many in her class already have phones. This morning she cried when I told her that only at the age of 17 will we allow her to use a smartphone. I think about this all day. And I see how timely your video came out for this occasion.

I have experienced this exact same thing with my ten year old. He said the teacher asked the class to raise their hands if they had a cell phone in their possession, and he and other student were the only two not raising their hands. He’s been told to expect to get his phone at 18.

We have thought about this a lot when it comes to our 5 & 6 year olds. We have decided they will have a watch that can make calls only so they can contact us anytime they need to, beyond that, I would like to ban both smartphones and social media until age 18.

Truly appreciate this so much Jady. My husband and I speak of this topic of a cluttered mind often. I homeschool as well and there was a week where things were a bit hectic for me and I allowed tablets for our younger kids and they cried and fought when the timer was up. I felt so guilty 😢that I put that upon them by choosing to provide the tablet. More recently I have brought out more card games, learning ASL and even turning off all the lights and playing hide n seek just so that they can pass their time more mentally focused. I would appreciate a video on how you limit screens in the home 😊 and ideas your family has to offer

I tell my kids the same. They will get it somewhere between 16-18 yrs of age. Depending on showing how much they are responsible and responsive to their surroundings.

I hear you!! What I have done is put my phone on driving mode. If someone texts, it will auto reply with a message stating I will only be checking messages at 12 pm and 7pm. Call if they need an immediate answer. I will put the phone away and use my apple watch to receive phone calls. I ckeck emails etc before kids get up and after they go to bed. Its extremely hard at the beginning but living in the present is so rewarding. Especially with kids. I agree with Jady that it is a form of addiction.

Thank you Jady for this video! Ive always wanted to switch to a flip phone but never did it. I am making the switch this weekend! I have two little babies and I hate being on my phone when I'm around them. It really hit me when you said that our time is the most precious asset we have. I don't want to look back on my life and remember always being on my phone. 4 hours a day turns into 120 hrs a month, 1440 hrs a year, and 14,400 hrs in a decade. That's horrible! Thank you again for really opening my eyes to the distracted lives we are all living.

I use my phone to educate myself on different topics and I keep using that as an excuse to use it. I keep going back to the though of “I am getting a lot of benefits from it so there’s no need to leave it” but this is taking time from the most important things in life as you described. I wish I could stop this.🥺This video helps.

While listening to this I was feeding my newborn and tweezing my chin 😭 I've been so bad about this these past few weeks since my newest baby was born. I have fallen into the smartphone addiction again. It's definitely a coping mechanism for me. When there are big changes or trials I tend to fall into it. I have quit and got a dumb phone a number of times but I always end up back somehow. Addiction runs in my family so I guess this is my struggle. I want to be in the present moment but I really struggle. Please pray for me!

Thanks for sharing Jady. I will also love to hear more on how you manage to keep connected with homeschool co-ops if you're in any or any other activity like music for example, even more when any recital or big event that will happen towards the end of school year or holiday, were moms are finalizing any details and need our answer as soon as we can. I guess my biggest fear is not to be able to answer an email or to do any task needed from my co-op while outside from home.

I wanted to ask and see what you do for music? Do you play music throughout your house? During the day? Sadly sometimes it’s the one thing that motivates me to get things done. Might just be too reliant on it but I play it to get my kids to clean up too.

Jady, thank you for this video. I struggle with rage and am going to start limiting my screen time. I have a weird question that you may not be able to answer but - I find when I'm "thinking for myself" or left alone with my thoughts, I feel overwhelmed because there is so much to think about. I don't necessarily care about having my phone or laptop, but when I'm thinking I start feeling anxious. I don't know if that makes sense, but wanted to get your thoughts on that.
@vintagejaki7513 ай бұрын
Try writing them down. Keep a journal or a notebook to jot down your thoughts. Getting it out of the brain and onto paper helps with gaining clarity.

Thank you so much for your transparency! There are a lot of people that use the consumption of content as a way to distract themselves from addressing traumatic issues. I have been there myself. I would recommend speaking with a Christian counselor or therapist that can help you walk through why you are experiencing rage and anxious thoughts. Also, begin to pray and meditate on the Word of God. You don’t need to memorize the entire Bible but get you a few scriptures that you can stand on. Praying for you, beautiful daughter of the Most High God! 🙏🏼❤️

I tried to stay away from my smartphone many times. It always happens when it breaks. My family doesnt like it because they cant reach me, especially the ones that live abroad. And it is hard, because your going to miss out. but it just irritates me that im addicted to a device. waisting your time just scrolling, when I could have read a book, learn a new skill or do whatever. And I feel so weird for feeling nervous about getting a dump phone (flip phone), but its time. its time to stop waisting time

Jady...my 19-month old is delayed. I'm just finding you. I didn't know there were things I should have been doing w/ her. Do you suggest I just do one set of flashcards (letter sounds) or introduce her to flashcard sounds, flashcard colors, flashcard shapes, puzzles, and books?
@JadyA2 ай бұрын
Yes I would start of with letter sounds and gradually introduce the other flashcards. You can use a high chair with snacks for least distractions to start with. The latest video on 15 minutes preschool sessions would be a good one to follow.

I wont be able to watch your videos without my phone 😢. I dont own a Tv or have a computer. What would you recommend instead to stay connected to the world for news and videos for homeschooling?
@JadyA2 ай бұрын
I would recommend to get a used laptop or computer if you can not afford that another idea is most public libraries have access to computers for free. If there is a will there is a way. There are government programs in many states that give homeschool children computers and internet service for free. For homeschool you will need a computer for your children. Best Wishes!

@JadyA thank you for the ideas! I will be starting homeschooling at the end of this school year for my son. He is finishing up 7th but I noticed he has alot of learning gaps. So I'm starting him on A.C.E program. I ordered the books for his gaps. I probably need to get a laptop. The one he uses now belongs to his school. He will be turning it in at the end of the school year. Love your videos!
