Not trying to justify the restaurant cause I think it's outrageous to charge that much but the gold leaf they use is probably like the real gold leaf which costs waaaayyyy more then 8 dollars. U can get the imitation gold leaf for cheap and it looks pretty much the same

@@victoria6137 No. Real 24K gold leaves are just pretty cheap. They're incredibly thin. Gold is just over $60 per gram. A whole booklet of 50 leaves, ~10x10 cm in size, weighs just over a gram. Of course, production cost has to be added, but that's still very inexpensive per sheet. Btw, you can get a 400-leaf pack of imitation gold leaves for $15.

From the price it self, its too expensive for some gold covered slab of meat. Even if its wagyu. With 1200 $ id better save up some more and fly directly to japan to try their wagyu.

exactly, gold leaf and gold foil are extremely thin, a few atoms thick. for a wagyu with gold trim, you're looking at 750 for two people, and 550 for one. two people doesnt double the price because wagyu is so fatty

Its not even pure cut of steak, they usualy make it like tiny sandwiches because the fattiness of the meat. SaltBae only gaining money from acts and its not even that entertaining. @@IdiotsInTheDesert even better at proving the point; plus, nobody ever eats a whole wagyu steak, exponentially more fatty than a southerners mashed potatoes. so, combine the small portions with the cheapness of gold leaf, you're probably looking at way less, probably hibachi grill prices. i mean, its not even the experience or the way of preparing it. Gyro, Kebab, and Shawarma can only really be made in shops, that rotisserie runs all day; anyone can cook a good wagyu with a few steps of seasoning and searing

Reactivity doesn't have much to do with taste, reactivity refers to how easily an element gives up,gains or shares elections. Taste actually works by proteins on your taste buds sending signals to the brain, gold, like alot of elements don't taste like much.

Taste occurs when a food molecule bonds temporarily to a receptor protein, which then activates certain enzymes depending on the electronic configuration of the atoms, inducing an electric wave headed to the brain. Since gold is (relatively) inert, it doesn't even get decomposed in the mouth, which means it doesn't get small enough to interact with taste receptors. Other metals usually have some atoms on the surface react with various naturally occurring elements in our saliva through oxidation/reduction, which forms ions of the ingested metal, and that's how we taste them.

It's real 24k gold leaf but it's stupid since pure gold is a stable element and doesn't taste like anything so it's actually covering up the flavor a tiny bit. The cuts themselves though cost around $200-$300. Your basically paying money to make your food less flavorful and literally flushing gold down the toilet. I don't get why people go to places like these but whatever makes them happy I guess.

I'm telling you, the sous vide turns crap cuts of meat into world class quality steak. I can't tell you how many times we went to what was supposed to be a higher end steakhouse (think $75+ for maybe 8-12oz filet mignon) only for us to say, "Yeah, it was good, but we could have cooked it better ourselves). Obviously spending $1,200 for two is lunacy.

Imagine eating gold and thinking it will add flavor. It tastes just like the fork you ate the steak with. The restaurant serves above average food. The prices are high but same as any other high end restaurant. However, the gold coated bs is outrageously expensive. Regular steak will be for 300 (still expensive) dollars while the one with gold is for 1200. It is there for people to flex their money.
