I love Origins! A lot of friends I speak to today dismiss Origins as 'clunky' or too 'dark' or even 'bad' without understanding that it's not a game made in the same way or for the same audience that Inquisition was. It was for fans of CRPGs and mid-2000s Bioware games, and an excellent game at that, probably the game in the series with the most consistent vision and best execution. One of my all-time favourites, despite a few gripes. Glad to see it's still getting some love!

@@blitzmunk2.021 I am glad we have that in common! I would say compared to modern games, sure, your friends are right. It is clunky, but man, that game just has something about it that draws me in, even all these years later. While I am not the biggest fan of CRPGs, this is one I have played over and over and intend to play over and over again. Hell, as long as I have a voice, I will ALWAYS use it to praise this wonderful game.

I just wish we would get some comparably good RPGs that *_aren't_* set in such dark worlds. I love the complexity, the choices, the consequences of the choices - but the overall setting, the mood, ... have been *_so_* dark in all the good RPGs in the last years (well, last 1-2 decades) that it's simply too depressing for me to enjoy. Which is why I don't buy them, I don't even watch anyone else play them. It's been a trend not only in gaming, but also in movies and series - I can't *_stand_* the Battlestar Galactica reboot for example. The original was all about the hope and positivity in a dire situation - the reboot for me is pretty much "even the little bits that seem good are actually terrible in some way, every reason for hope gets crushed every single time, but everyone just keeps going because of exactly one reason - there wouldn't be a series to make money off otherwise".

@@Wolf-ln1ml nothing wrong with that opinion. I understand that sometimes those environments and themes can be oppressive and a bit of a downer. Origins was a big, evolutionary step from the original Baldur's Gate, which matured after Neverwinter Nights. The storytelling, cutscenes, banter, attention to detail, incredible music, and your decisions mattered in a much more technical, personal way. Origins' Eclipse engine was a joy to mod using the official toolkit. It added to the replay ability and I wish EA would re-release the game under an upgraded version of the Eclipse Engine and provide a new toolkit. The Lycium engine is technically the last version of the engine, but it is a downgrade in most everything except graphics and it didn't come with a toolkit.

It was down hill from Origins

@@chrisbelbin7270 I can’t fault you for your opinion, and I don’t disagree. But I did find plenty of things to love and enjoy in DA2 and Inquisition. What did you love most about Origins?

Origins is the only legit good game in the series
@ratedjentertainment

@@AKABoondock19 it’s hard to argue that, but to counter it, I’d say it’s the only legitimately GREAT game in the series, whereas I would consider 2 and Inquisition to be merely good or decent games. That said, I appreciate you taking the time to comment! I am glad to know I’m not the only one who shares a deep love for Origins and respects it like it deserves.

@@ratedjentertainment I thought 2 was OK. Inquisition was just too much of a departure of the series for me, and now this next one looks to be even worse in that regard

@@AKABoondock19 I can’t fault you for your opinion, nor can I say you are wrong, but I to better increase our understanding one another’s positions, I’d like to explain a few things I like about the other games. Maybe not to change your mind, but give you a little context for me. For what it’s worth, the insanely limited development time is what really hampered that game’s potential. Even so, I think game told a good story but the overly reused assets are horrible. But I still found a lot of charm in that game. Inquisition I thought had great ideas, but poor execution, that’s all I’ll say there. I am eager to see the story with Solas wrapped up, but I am with you about Veilguard. I am not happy for that game truthfully. I actually have a long video where I do the breakdown and discuss the lore. If you have a spare 2 hours, you might enjoy my commentary on it.

@@ratedjentertainment Nothing will change my opinion. The series depth on strategic combat and party control was removed not to make the game better, but to bring in non-fans. Im not telling you you are wrong for loving the other games, or thinking they are good. I am saying that you are part of the problem when it comes to studios pulling this kind of shit. (by buying the next game) No offense as its not intentional on your part. You wanna play a game you play it. I dont blame you, but yeah, you are part of the problem for me even though its not your fault really.
