Same for me. English has so many weird sounds that Spanish doesn't, and learning just the necessary about English phonetics made my pronounciation the best at school. Not speaking about accents here, but pronounciation, make yourself clear and not confusing words, there is where phonetics are really useful

I can say words in Norse and Gothic and Icelandic and Dutch and Norwegian etc and other pretty languages (the pretty languages being works of art) perfectly, even though I cannot read the ipa, the ipa being very confusing - the ipa doesn’t have the unique Dutch sound that is right between a normal A sound and a normal E sound that most speakers say when saying the ij and ei in words such as fijn and trein and pijn which in most Dutch accents is pronounced with that unique sound and a normal i sound at the end, but instead, the ipa has two or more symbols for the ch sound such as the c and the tsh-type of symbol that is used in English and even a ç-type of symbol that’s used in Italian when spelling the ipa spelling of Italian words that have c followed by e or i in spelling, which is literally the ch sound like the ch in chips and chocolates and like the ch in Spanish etc, and it has multiple a / i / u sounds that sound the same and multiple v sounds that are just the funny version of a normal v sound, so I don’t really care about learning the ipa, and, when there’s a more complicated sound such as the LL in Welsh, even knowing the ipa doesn’t help if one doesn’t know exactly what sound one should make, like, I hear some H-based or S-based or SH-based sound in there, but am not sure which one is the right one to get the right Welsh LL which isn’t an L sound technically, though it sounds like it could be a mix of H and L sometimes!

English is a 100% Germanic language created by a dude by modifying Norse and Óld English words etc and creating new words in its Middle version, and Modern English was created and perfected and oversimplified by the ágèncy, and the words modified from Latin words or Greek words etc became English words once the new Germanic spelling rules and the Germanic pronunciation rules were applied to them, and Proto Germanic was made by a dude by directly modifying Latin words and by creating lots of new words, but it wasn’t Latin either, because it’s not the vocab that makes a language what it is, and most words in Germanic languages and Latin languages are cognates, anyway, it’s just that most of them are used with different meanings, plus all languages come in very indirect ways from the first language Proto European which is the first language ever created that a dude of germanic origin created from scratch about ten thousand years ago together with the first writing system, which inspired all other languages and writing systems that exist today, either directly or indirectly, but mostly indirectly, as newer languages were made by modifying the spelling rules of previous languages and by creating new words, and modifying the spelling rules of a language automatically creates a new language, though when the language creator decided to modify the words a lot and change the meanings of the words and create mostly new words, a new language family would be created, depending on how different the newer language was, so all languages are kinda related in very indirect and distant ways, and most words in most languages are kinda cognates, even though most of them were modified completely, and that is especially true for European languages and many of the Turkic-languages etc, though I’ve seen plenty of Germanic words with Germanic letter combinations even in Arabic languages, so some European-based / Germanic-based languages were definitely used as an inspiration by the dude the made Arabic and even by the dude that made Ancient Egyptian etc - but yea, it’s the letter combinations and the verb endings and the noun endings etc and the sound patterns and the pronunciation rules and the overall aspect of the language and vibe that the language gives off that make a language what it is, not where most words were taken from!

It's the only thing that helped me pronounced the word "Literature" Because no matter how many times I heard audios of people saying it, I couldn't understand any sound of how natives say that word. Then I just read a transcription once and it solved all my problems with that word

His words basically imply things like "Who learns linguistics is a nerd and doesn't belong", "Who studies linguistics is uncool" and even "Languages should not be analysed and studied scientifically, because no one cares". Also contradictive things like "To know about language structure is unnecessary". Well, Mr. LanguageSimp, how can you become fluent in a language like a "true chad", who we nerdy losers will never be according to your words, without knowing about how things are pronounced, which word forms to use in which context and in which order to put words so that sentences make sense? Correct, you can't! But it's way easier to arrogantly shame and insult every linguist and linguistics enjoyer on the planet than having your statements not contradicting themselves. And why exactly can't languages both be science AND art? I as a conlanger know that this is in fact the case, but since he also occasionally shames conlanging in his videos, although not in that intensity, he'd probably ignore that question. I didn't like this guy before, but now he got me wild! Now I truly can't stand him

@@sicilanguageist misspoke I meant langsimp but basically the problem with conlangs that are meant to serve as global auxiliary languages is that they take away from the joy of learning a language to connect with peoples or cultures, as well as the fact that many conlangs like Esperanto have the intention of being global auxiliary languages but are in fact very Eurocentric and are only easy for people from that background. Something I can get behind is smth like inter Slavic which serves as a way of uniting Slavic people without having the false premise of it being easy or useful for the world to learn

@@ahmedharajli189 Well, they're not the only conlang type there is. That being said, yes, Esperanto is very Eurocentric and pretentious by Zamenhof's declared intentions. But why is Esperanto always mentioned when the conlanging community is so varied and motivation and end product are so so diverse? Esperanto is one (auxiliary) conlang among many many others. I always find that people who feel the need to say why they don't like conlangs know nothing about conlangs. I'm not talking about you, but it's just a general patterns I've seen emerging from this conlanging and linguistics-hating videos that for some reason popped up the last two years

If you don't like something you shouldn't discourage other people from doing it, except when that thing (in one's opinion) is harmful to others, then you should be able to warn other people if you want, because in your eyes you are protecting them. I'm not defending him, just pointing out that it's completely fine and logical to warn people about something if you think that thing is bad for them.

Yes that completely makes sense. In my opinion, I think you should find the things that you like and dislike about English. For example, how is it's grammar, it's phonology, pragmatics, syntax, etc. Once you find that out, find languages that align with your interests. If you are fascinated by the vocabulary of English, take a look at the Germanic languages (and French/Latin), if you are interested in it's grammar, take a look at the Romance languages. In my opinion, I think it'd be good to research the Indo-European-Language family as a whole and start looking through each family to see which one interests you. If you don't like any of these, take a look at African, East-Asian, Middle-Eastern, and Indigenous languages in the Americas and Oceania. Good luck!
