This is why I love spider-man, the story is a metaphor of a kid taking on the hardships of adulthood and taking on responsibility either gaining new friends or losing loved ones

This video broke me this morning. I'm in tears, writing this, but I need to convey this. I wasn't ready for its' message, or the significance that it holds to me, but considering the importance, the significance of Spider-Man (to me, personally), along with how much this character has shaped who I am today... I guess it was necessary. I don't come from much. My father was neglectful. My mother was abusive. The rest of my family was no better. And much like ASM Peter, I started to become bitter. The ironic thing is, it was my father who introduced me to Marvel, to Spider-Man, and that at the end of the day... "just do the right thing". When I first heard/saw the concept of "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility", I didn't understand it (I was a kid at the time), but through my teens, and even now in my 30's, I get it. "When you do the things that I can do, AND THEN THE BAD THINGS HAPPEN, they happen because of you." "Not choice. A RESPSONSIBILITY." People have told me time and again, to either do the right thing. Or keep to myself, focus on me, take care of myself and stop worrying about others. I can't. I have tried. I understood then, what was selfishness. Just as I figured out what was selflessness. And I know trauma, self care, healing, are all things I have to deal with due to my past. Because I can't draw water from an empty well. But I also cannot refuse this calling. Captain America said in Civil War: " If I see a situation pointed south, I can't ignore it. Sometimes I wish I could." I now know what he meant. I know I'm not a superhero. I don't have their superpowers. But I know that when something is happening, I cannot ignore it, because I do not want it to get worse. I guess that's why I've always related to Peter. He's the most human of them. And to me, personally... his struggles, his trauma, his hardships, his choices, and his need to do the right thing, and his guilt over his choices... have been like a mirror image of mine. He's not perfect. And neither are we. I am not perfect. This video broke me when Aunt May told Peter: "Start by doing the hardest thing, you forgive yourself." I struggle with this most of all. Because I am struggling with forgiving myself for what happened between my mother and I. I know it's not my fault for what she did to me. But there is a constant part of me (like some dark echo of her) that blames me. That won't forgive me for being helpless. For being WEAK. For not standing up for myself. For just taking it. For nearly giving into suicide because I couldn't take it anymore. But I think of Peter. I think of every hardship. Every villain. Every loss. Every setback he goes through. And how he KEEPS GETTING BACK UP. And somehow... it gives me strength. It gives me courage. It gives me hope. I'm in a better place now than I was as a kid. I had to leave everything behind a few years ago, in order to move forward. In order to not compromise my morals and my own choices, my own integrity. I don't know what my family thinks now. But I do know of my responsibilities. When someone needs something, be it advice, aid, or just someone to be there, I'm there. Because I can't live with what may happen if I don't. So I continue. Because it's what he would do. And because I know I'm strong enough to take it. No matter how bad it is, or how bad it gets. I am going to make it. Thank you, for making this video. Marvel never missed or made a error for casting as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. Even tho Tobey is my number one favorite cast cause his behavior/emotional/wise Spider-Man, then Andrew came, nailed it as quibbing/coolest Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and now, Tom came up, and nailed as well to be goofy/nerdy/childish Spider-Man as it should be. They three are made my life feels so heartwarming and completed as a fan. Three different Spider-Man aka three The Greatest of All Time.
