If you want to learn more about Church tradition, you should learn about the early church. They didn't keep Baptist traditions on baptism. They taught things the Baptist Church rejects. This is why I don't hold to their interpretation of scripture. It deviates historically from Church normative on baptism teaching.

A person must be “baptized” to be saved, but it has nothing to do with water. The proof is found below. Old Covenant Baptism vs. New Covenant Baptism (water vs. Spirit) Water baptism was a part of the Old Covenant system of ritual washing. The Old Covenant priests had to wash before beginning their service in the temple. (Ex. 30:17-30) When Christ was water baptized by His cousin John in the Jordan River, He was under the Old Covenant system. He also only ate certain foods, and wore certain clothes, as prescribed by the 613 Old Covenant laws. Christ was water baptized by John and then the Holy Spirit came from heaven. (Acts 10:38) The order is reversed in the New Covenant. A person receives the Holy Spirit upon conversion, and then believers often declare their conversion to their friends and family through a water baptism ceremony. I have also become increasingly convinced of the wisdom of congregational church polity. John Smyth in England in the 17th Century started the Baptist movement as a break-a-away from The Church of England but if you're looking for a key charismatic character in the history of the Baptist movement then I expect Charles Spurgeon would be your man along with 'his Bible', which took America by storm (and still does I believe).

The only issue is that Baptists ignore parts of the bible. I agree with most of it but not the part about being saved. Baptists believe that all you have to believe in Jesus and you are automatically saved which is not true. The only time the bible says faith alone is in James 2:24 "You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.”

After one is saved works follow out of obligation to our commitment to Christ, but not to achieve salvation. it can be compared to marriage. Once I am married i will conduct myself as one who is not single, not because acting married makes me married, but because i entered into that relationship. it is my obligation.

Hmm, I thought the terms charismatic and Baptist were kind of antithetical to each other. Baptist seems to have a wider swathe than I know, but I thought Baptists were pretty firmly cessationists. I've heard ex Baptists talk about when miracles really started to happen in their lives and speaking in tongues happened, totally w/out them seeking it since they were taught it was of the devil. Then they tried to share those experiences w/ other Baptists and were practically shunned.

One bright exception has been a Baptist mega church in my city. The leadership felt the Spirit was calling them into intensive prayer for revival, etc. this was about nine months prior to the Asbury revival. They suspended all Wednesday activities. They have seen the gifts of the spirit in operation and have had about 300 baptisms in the last year.

You should also check out the Church history that was in place before the Baptist Church. The early Church so believed in baptismal regeneration and the concept of baptism washing away sins. This is what the Church taught on this subject. Baptism washing sins away by Infusion with God's grace obtained on the cross is the normative understanding of baptism. Not what the Baptist Church says about it later. This is what lead me to reject what the Baptist Church teaches. I cannot easily ignore that this wasn't what the Christians believed in the early Church.

One point of inter-church relationships is that if one church goes completely off the rails, the others can/should step in to correct them.

we are baptized in both water and spirit. There are multiple kinds of baptism in the age of grace established by Paul which is for us. The water baptism is not essential for our salvation. What’s important is the idea that our past selves die, and we take on a new life like Christs death and resurrection.

I'm unsure if this relates to your comment, but I will put it out there anyway. As a non-Christian, I am puzzled by the concept of a renewal/recovery of the one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. No matter how you slice it, a large portion of protestants seem to agree with the premise that the Church as established by Christ fell apart not long after the death of the last Apostle, and therefore, the "true gospel" needed "restoration." Why is this significant? The undeniable implication of this historical view is that what the Son of God Himself established did not survive, but what was established by some other non-Incarnate man did. In the case of Mormons, it is Joseph Smith, who they consider a prophet. For Seventh-Day Adventists, it is Ellen G. White. For other protestants, it's one of the "reformers" of the 16th century. To me, this means that which was restored by mere men has managed to last at least 500 years, while that which was established by God in the Flesh, Jesus Christ, hardly made it past the end of the first century before it became corrupt. How could mere men succeed, and the God-man got it all wrong? Does not this view necessarily elevate the creature above the Creator?

That would be interesting. I've only heard one take from protestants, and that's largely explained by demons. I'm not Catholic either, but that no longer satisfies me. I don't know what to think. There have been some Mary sightings by individual people in terrible distress that always made me wonder. One was in a book, "Michelle Remembers". This was a girl raised in a Satanic cult from a toddler, when her cultist mother gave her up to be groomed in horrific rituals to raise the devil. She somehow always believed in God, though the cult was careful to shelter her from any knowledge of God. In a satanic ritual, they raised the devil out of a fire. Mary appeared to her, as the kind and loving mother she never had. I've never known what to make of that. I believe her story. I've had that book a few times, and read it at least twice. Everyone always wants to borrow it, then they lend it to someone else. I never get them back, but just as well. Read it a few times and wouldn't want to read it again I don't think. The end is wonderful and redemptive, but the details are beyond horrifying.

What would you consider to be an honest take on these events? Would it only be one that fully embraces them? Could you consider scepticism of Marian apparitions to be an honest take?

I would be agnostic on them myself: like I was with the Shroud of Turin but the Shroud of Turin seems to be gaining more evidence as to its authenticity as I watch more videos about it. Saw a video from Africa about Mary appearing on the front church wall : it looked totally faked and just a fuzzy Statue image of a woman projected on the wall from a window by the sun. That was taped from inside the church during a service! Catholics are investigating but I have doubts about this as it seems only to be Mary who keeps appearing to Roman Catholics / Orthodox.
