Why I'm hooked on Russia: Jill Dougherty at TEDxBethesdaWomen

Күн бұрын

It's been a life-long interest, in spite of the cold, corruption and, sometimes, chaos. But Russia is a crucial player in the world and Jill Dougherty explains why.
Jill Dougherty is CNN's Foreign Affairs Correspondent and an expert on Russia, having spent nine years as CNN's Moscow Bureau Chief.
She began studying the Russian language as a freshman in high school and has lived, worked and reported from Russia, traveling throughout the country. In this talk she explains what makes Russia tick - for her - and why you should care about Russia.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Джилл - красавица! Как бы я хотел, чтобы в России было больше журналистов, которые рассказывали бы русским об Америке с таким же уважением, знанием истории и культуры, как она рассказывает американцам о России. Спасибо! Удачи Вам! I wish there were more Russian journalists who’d tell Russians about the US with the same love, respect, knowledge of culture and history as she tells Americans about Russia. Many thanks to Jill! May power be with her!

Well, I don't know what happened since and how you feel about Russia today (I don't mean RT), it's been a lot of water under the bridge... So many years working for the white house, so many years working for the CIA (the voice of America is part of it) and so many years working for Hillary Clinton may not be the easiest path to understanding Russia and the Russians but I hope you made the right choice and had things your way. Most of all I hope you can translate this experience into something that brings people together instead of pouring extra oil on the flame, we've been there before. It's easier to look at the differences than focus on what human beings have in common. Now a simple way to know what's best for humanity and each one of us is to remember those graves in St. Petersburg and ask yourself this question : why did it happen, could it happen elsewhere, could it happen again, could it be worse and what can I do to avoid it? I think the key to it is to get to know each other and understand each other. As Plato famously said : ignorance is the root and stem of all evil.

Hillary Clinton has always hated the Russians spreading her venom among the American citizens. This woman has done so much harm to so many countries and has not served a single day in prison for her crimes. She has millions to bribe politicians, judges, attorneys, anyone, and everyone to keep her safe. There's no justice only lies and a huge bank account.
