I still have an M1 MacBook Air and the only reason I would want to upgrade is because of the measly 8GB of RAM, I thought storage was more important for me at the time and I chose the 512GB SSD over the RAM upgrade, which was fine in 2021, but it's clearly starting to show its limits. I would also love to have the ProMotion Display, but I don't feel the need to spend almost $2000 CAD just for that.

No wonder they didn't send him the review units. 🤣

My game plan is basically to wait a few years then get a used M1 or M2 Pro for cheaper

The M1 chip is really good, the only thing that would get a lot of people to upgrade is an Oled screen, speakers, materials, colors, and maybe cellular connection. Just like with a new IPhone, people want a new one for many things but not many need a more powerful IPhone since they are already very powerful for phones.

I'm in the same boat. My M1 MacBook Pro 💻 is nearly 2 years old but it's still the best laptop I've ever owned. I do Photoshop, video editing, have 40 Chrome Tabs open, 8 other programs, and I am not even scratching the surface of the M1 MBP's capabilities. The laptop is in near mint-condition, with no wear. At current usage, the battery will last another 3-4 years. They will have to make SIGNIFICANT improvements to make it worth upgrading. Looks like I won't be upgrading until M6 or so ....LOL 🤣 ...The same is true of the iPhone. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max... I "may" upgrade when the iPhone 18 comes out! LOL 😆

I like it when people stick to their devices when they have the ability to get the latest and greatest everytime. These are tools and they are for specific work. As long as they're doing their job, there's no reason to replace them!

Genuinely, i'm still using my White Macbook A1342, in fact i'm watching this short on it right now. Though I wouldn't recommend it, i'm amazed at what it can still do. Upgraded 8GB Ram and 512GB SSD and using DosDudes Catalina patcher to force it to update the OS to what I think it can realistically handle. I've literally had it since 2009, and though i've had newer MacBooks in that time, they either died or i just sold them because i rarely use a laptop anymore. But when needed, the old girl still pulls through. Not bad for a 15 year old laptop. Not bad at all. And it wasn't even a pro, it was just your standard MacBook. People seriously over estimate their spec needs. If Austin can still use a 3 year old laptop, you most definitely can deal with your older MacBook. And i say MacBook because i wouldn't say the same for Windows PC's.

My M2 Macbook air is just working very good and is exactly doing what I needed I had just bought this laptop 3 to 4 months back and its a great upgrade from my 4 years old HP laptop which was about 400 dollars

I had an air and upgraded to the M3 pro Absolutely love it but could most definitely see that if I didn’t need the ram and was going from pro chip to pro chip that it’d be essentially the same laptop at least for most work

I am not upgrading to the M3 MacBook Air! I’m already sticking to my M2 MacBook Air which I got earlier this year. Works like a charm and can take it wherever I go and also using my google chrome for my documents instead of owning a chromebook. Works like a charm will have this computer for a while. If I would upgrade to the M3 MacBook Air 15 inch, it would be more expensive and less reliable for me to travel around the city just for safety reasons. I love my MacBook so I’m gonna keep it but it’s the first ever MacBook Air I ever owned in my entire life

I’m not upgrading either it’s just like the M2 a spec upgrade there is no redesign, better battery life, Face ID , WiFi 7 , thunderbolt 5 , OLED or micro LED I’ll wait for all that in M4 or M5 which probably will be next year or the year after

I've had my PC I built since 2017, and am only now starting to consider building a new one. It's still absolutely fine in most regards, but I've noticed my GPU is beginning to have some issues - and upgrading that means sort of _having_ to upgrade the rest too. The average computer or laptop absolutely _will_ last 5-7 years no problem, and people really _should_ be using them for this length of time before buying something new. That would save on limited raw resources AND e-waste and plastic waste, which is a big and still-growing issue right now.

I also have the 14in m1 max with 64gb of ram. I don't think I will ever use up 100% of it's cpu/GPU/ram unless I play shadow of the tomb raider at max settings. As nice as the new m3 max looks there is no point in upgrading when I am not even fully utilizing what I currently have.

Honeslty for 99% of people they don’t need to upgrade if they are M1, this computer handles any sort of video editing I throw at it, I’m not upgrading till a serious redesign

A lot of Apple users are not buying the new M3 models, because their M1 pros are still amazing and there is no reason for them to upgrade. Very few people get to push their laptops to the maximum capability. (including myself)

I just got a pristine M1 pro 14 second hand for 1.3k i get you why u say its your favorite coz that's now that device is my favorite too.

not sure what the point of this release is. the M1 is still very good in 2023 and so is the M2. Apple didn't need to release anything new because the older ones would've still sold well.

The conference was very heavily comparing the M3 chips to the older Intel days so the new stuff for me is aimed at the people still rocking the Intel Macs. My M1 Mac is serving me quite well after 3yrs of use. Shame I can't upgrade the ram but never mind.

i have an M1 Pro and i havent ever used it to its full potential yet i do quite the bit andni upgraded from a 2015 intel core i5 Macbook pro and that just broke midway through its life span. i got it in 2020 and it seems stupid but i didnt need anything crazy. i just needed it to do normal day to day tasks and the more i used it the more heave loads i did and the screen and motherboard sucked. i couldnt see anything as the actual display broke and the backlight broke. and the keyboard and mouse broke too so it just shat itself and became a useless paperweight until i got the m1 pro macbook pro that i still havent used and still do some heavy workloads on it using only about 40 percent of its power compared to doing the same thing and using 80 percent of the power with my old 2015 macbook. its crazy how i got it only last year dealing without a computer until december of 2022. and im not upgrading until it cant handle my workloads or it breaks like my old macbook or until it's unsupported and not by apple but by software i use

Hinges and battery can be replaced, so that doesn't sound like a big deal to me

I managed to edit a 1080p video on a 2009 iMac with a CORE 2 DUO, 4GB RAM, and a crappy NVIDIA graphics chip, and it ran just fine.

I feel that m2 and m 3 laptops are not for people that had bought m1, I mean if you are that kind of person who upgrades their laptops every other year, you are welcome to do so. But I feel macs from before 2016 and now after 2020 are designed to last 5-7 years. Most tech youtubers probably won't wait as long and might think about getting the m4 lineup but an average m1 user won't look to buy a new laptop until at least m6.

I think it all depends on what you’ll do with the laptop if you are a just regular day user search web or normal school I say stay with the one you have if it isn’t out date couple of years or if you need the new new stuff and actually Gonna use the MacBook for what it is and need the power then go for it
