I have a learning disability so I read nlt mainly. But also CSB, amplified, and niv. I know all the arguments but as long as I’m learning something it’s an A+ from me. I love CSB, it reads so smoothly! I just got the dake nkjv study Bible I’m excited to dig in to a more word for word translation.

Yes ma’am! As long as you are in the WORD it’s great. I was a little harsh on myself about all of this when I made the video but now I am much more relaxed. I compared them all enough spreading them out in the table side by side to understand that they are all fine. It’s just the wording but it’s the same message.

The CSB is a brilliant translation. I used to read exclusively the KJV (wasnt a kjv onlyist) and after reading the entire bible in the ESV, NLT and NKJV, I can wholeheartedly say that the CSB has the edge. It has the edge because it's literal enough to satisfy formal equivalence fans and is good for serious studies, but also contemporary enough to bring the gospel to people with no Christian background at all. The ESV can be a bit difficult and dry for some, especially if from a foreign country, even though its suited to formal study. The NLT can be too loose and informal, too wordy and casual for serious study, although nice for casual devotion. The CSB captures the balance, in my opinion.

I just about have them all. KJV, NKJV, NIV, NASB, NLT, ESV, MESSAGE, THE VOICE, THE PASSION and now the CSB. My two favorites are the NASB and the ESV, but I'm really coming to like the CSB it's a nice literal of the ESV mixed in with the readability of the NLT/NIV.

I love the CSB. Been getting into that some the last year or so....it's the translation I got for my son for when he grows up and is able to have it (been marking verses and prayers in it for him). For myself I've been getting into the ESV a lot lately. I wanted to get more "challenging" than the NLT. Just figured it was fine to start with but didn't want to stay there. I did the 30-day Shred with the ESV....mostly listening to it. When I was done with that I got a book-version of the ESV. I've felt a real sense of accomplishment for being able to get into a "harder" translation

I love that you are marking verses and prayers in the Bible for your son!!!! 💜💜 I recently found out my preacher prefers ESV for himself and I have been looking for a good one for myself. I have never read ESV. What do you think about it? Is it MUCH different than the others?

The CSB is in the middle of the "precise word translation" vs "thought translation" spectrum. It is very accurate while being very readable. The ESV is on the end of the spectrum with KJV and NASB (precise word translation). If you made the switch, you would likely be quite comfortable with the ESV. The translators attempted to keep with some of the KJV traditions in their writing, so it often reads similar to the NKJV phrasing. As far as a good one... since it would likely take the place of your NKJV study... I highly recommend the ESV Study Bible. It has one of the best and most extensive set of study additions (notes, articles, illustrations, etc.). I also enjoy the original word studies that the CSB Study Bible has peppered through its notes.... * laugh * I use 3 different study bibles * nerd blush *

I'm just wondering - I noticed that this post is over two years old. How did it go with the CSB? Are you still using it? A word about the NLT. It is a fantastic translation. Over 90 Biblical scholars worked on the translation team. And it is a full translation, not a paraphrase. It's one of the best translations available, bringing out the meaning of the text. Many pastors have made it their preaching translation, such as Chuck Swindoll. One scholar, Mark Ward (check out his videos - he's extremely knowledgeable) commented that when checked against other translations, the NLT gets it right most of the time. This surprises people simply because it's a dynamic translation. However, just because a translation is dynamic doesn't mean it's inaccurate. The NLT is not my top translation, but it is one of my favorites.

I’m looking into a journaling bible and my favorite is NKJV, but they lack in the journaling bibles department lol, so looking into ESV or CSB. When I read side by side I found that CSB lacked the transition words. I know those are important in telling the sequence of things. Maybe I’m wrong since I only read a couple of verses but I would love to know if it does use words like “now, then, finally, next etc”

The CSB is top notch. It does an excellent job balancing readability with faithfulness to the text. NLT is the easiest non paraphrase Bible to read. This comes at a cost of not being quite as faithful to the text by adding and taking away material according to the translators' interpretation. It is still a high quality Bible and faithfully communicates the accurate overall meaning. But I think that the CSB is a much better choice. I actually prefer CSB over NKJV and KJV as well, due to readability and being up to date with modern scholarship. Not sure how much research you've done into the Critical Text vs Textus Receptus debate. I fall on the Critical Text side of the debate, and so I appreciate that while the NKJV is based on the Textus Receptus, the footnote communicates the Critical Text where it differs.

Hi - I have also had my doubts concerning the NLT Translation - it is an easy read however I have recently discovered that the KJV and NIV are my favorite translations but I also have a CSB Bible and to be honest, I am loving it. I also have the ESV and NKJV Translations and do use them for comparison purposes. It’s also good to have more than one translation to provide clarity on certain verses and I always say “read what you are comfortable reading…” As for the NLT, I have mixed feelings and I’ve have that feeling for a while. I loved your video and the CSB Incourage Bible is really great as well as the CSB She Reads Truth and CSB Experiencing God Bible. God Bless 😊

NLT is a Thought for Thought, rather than Word for Word and that makes it extremely useful when things need clarification. I must suggest that you read Exodus 34:1 and then Exodus 34:28 in NLT and any other Bible and I think you will quickly spot that in Exodus 34:28 the NLT is the only correct one. This is coming from a nearly KJVO . NLT has it's very needed place in my study.

CSB is a great translation. English is not even my native language, but I'm using the CSB daily, 'cause I also use the CSB study bible (which I also recommend). You americans have sooo many options when choosing a Bible. I'm from the Netherlands and I don't think I've got much to complain. We have enough translations. But in dutch we can't choose for a thinline reference bible or a verse-by-verse bible or a reader's bible or things like that. Or a Bible with extra stuff like the He reads truth. And I understand it, because the dutch market isn't very big. But it made me buy a lot of english study Bibles. I got the Spurgeon study bible, the He reads truth, the Holy land illustrated, the ESV study Bible. They are so rich with introductions, notes and charts.

Hi Annie, I'm new to your channel. When I accepted Jesus in my life I didn't know what Bible to get. I had came out of an organized religious belief that used their own Bible translation (New World Translation) . I didn't realize there were so many other translations of the Bible. So I chose the CSB Study Bible because it had the word Christian. I just recently got the HCSB Women's Study Bible and a Connections CSB Study Bible. I was gifted after my baptism a KJV Creative Journaling Bible. My collection is growing. LOL! But when studying I like to see other translations to get a better understanding. TFS.

Up front, I can not be considered an expert. I started collecting different Bible versions, and translations when I accepted the Lord back in 1985. Isn’t the NKJV a translation of a translation? If so why is it ok to read the NKJV verses any other translation of a translation?
@FaithfullyBound
@FaithfullyBound Жыл бұрын
You are right, NKJV is a translation of a translation. Scholars today base their translations on the oldest original biblical text available. Some translations are word for word, some paraphrase, and some more thought for thought. I went through a period where I was really struggling with what version I should actually read on a daily basis. I did tons of research and confused myself even more. I spent way too many hours making myself feel guilty because I might be reading the wrong translation. Eventually I settled on the CSB. I am not as strict on myself about this anymore after having several different translations that I lay out on the table very often and compare. I still do not care for NIV and NLT but I will get them out and compare when I am studying the Word.

@FaithfullyBound

Honestly for beginners I would recommend NIV or NLT. NIV is more thought for thought translation. It is one of the easiest to understand. NLT is also a favorite for people who just want to understand but it’s more along the lines of a Paraphrase. Both of these are also pretty popular and easy to find. I used to be so much more critical of Bible translations but lately I have eased up.I have had many sessions where I laid them all out and compared word for word through the different translations and I am just not as critical on the issue anymore because of that. Personally these days I prefer to use CSB and ESV. They are both really good translations. I also suggest whatever translation you choose to pick a study Bible. Life Application Study Bible is a really good one for applying scripture to everyday life. If you don’t want to go that route there are plenty of free commentaries online to look at. I hope that helps 😬

These days, English readers should compare different varieties. After all, the English language is massive and there are so many ways to word things, the scripture does come alive just a little bit more when you read different phrasing and grammar and so on. I kind of follow the standard charts for what is more "literal" on down to more "easy/thought/dynamic". I start with something like LSB which is in the tradition of NASB. It is very literal, with proper use of names for God. The reading is "wooden", as they say, but because it's as literal as possible, you won't be getting a lot of fluff words or things shoved in that are only implied in the text. If NASB/LSB is too stiff, than the ESV is a good choice. It's super popular and used in many many churches and maintains some of that King James wording we all grew up with. It's literal, but reads slightly better, and is in the tradition of KJV and I think RSV or something like that. You can even go so far as to get a Young's Literal, which is pretty much as "word for word" as you can get. Each Greek word gets an English word, as much as can be, and that's it. Read it some time and see just how much work the translators do to make scripture easier for us to read. Once I've got my "literal" versions, I'll find a good middle ground, like CSB, NKJV, and NET. The NET version is great because you can get a ton of translators' notes, which is helpful to see the thinking behind choosing certain words and phrases, it can really open things up. I also have a big CSB in a "readers bible" format, suitable for casual reading scripture as if it were any other normal book (single column, etc). On the dynamic side, these can still be helpful because they are essentially expanding the language into even more detailed and expressive English, but at the expensive being closer to the Greek. NIV is a classic, but even that is showing age in many of its word choices. My young daughter has an NIRV which is taking the NIV and making the reading level even lower and easier for kids to read. She originally had an ESV, but who are we kidding, an 8 year is going to have a hard time reading ESV. But NIRV is going to read in her own 8-12 reading level which is much easier and makes more sense, fewer words that she doesn't know. I'll also use the Amplified Bible. I don't know what version this is based on, but all they do is add brackets into the text to give expanded definitions of many words and phrases so you can really understand the depth of the word. And that's about it! On my phone I use the YouVersion Bible App from Life.Church and I can get all these translations and more right in there and switch between them. So then, Young's, NASB/LSB, ESV, NET, CSB, NIV, NIRV, Amplified. Along with those, we can use our Nave's Topical and Strong's Concordance and it's off to the races!

I have the Tanakh. I got it when I was studying religion at Salem University. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of the complete Jewish Bible with the new and old testament. I just looked it up and it seems interesting.

I think KJV is good enough. Copy rights of other versions seems to me too limited for the Gospel. Read a Bible is the most important thing.

Its not stupid. If you are most comfortable with KJV, that's ok. I have become a lot more lenient on myself with translations since I originally posted this video.

I am no expert in these matters. However, I can tell you from personal experience that I believe you will profit greatly from the purchase of the CSB Study Bible. I own two of them and I'm just now sstarting on my second which is large print. I"ve worn out my other personal size CSB Study Bible. I know some of the guys who have contributed to this volume. This is not a waste of money at all. God bless and keep you and your son very safe.😄😄

I’m not as strict with myself on this as I was before. Don’t feel bad. Do your research and decide what works best for you.
