I always keep on wandering why batik is always associated with women. There's a lot of apportunity in business if the batiks designer are to explore designs for men rather than keeps the design for women. I believe there's shirts especially long sleeve shirt in batik for men,but there is no batik sarong for men. It's really boring to have sarong with stripes and checkered design all the time. Maybe designers should think having a design based on sports motif like football, motorsports or anything else that associated with men.

BATIK is from Javanese language AMBA means TO WRITE and TITIK means DOT. BA-TIK means WRITING DOWN A DOT. it could have been derived also from the phrase MBATHIK MANAH : TO DRAW WITH THE WHOLE HEART. Batik is Indonesian traditional textile decorated using hot melted wax and natural dyes. for the wax-resist dyeing art itself, it has existed since 5000-2600 BC. this production technique entered Indonesia archipelago through the merchant from Indian Gujarat. in 6th-8th CENTURY the Batik textile has grown up and developed in Indonesia. it was restricted for use to Royalty and Nobility especially in Java Island. from then on, this cultural has been passed on from generation to generation till TODAY. and in around 12th century, CANTING (TJANTING = Javanese word means SIBUR KECIL or PENCEDOK AIR) was invented in Java. from the history, the definition, the implementation... BATIK has been proved that it is originally from INDONESIA. that is why UNESCO has added BATIK to the LIST OF UNESCO'S INTANGIBLE HERITAGE OF HUMANITY in 2009.

hahahaha now I know the truth. the world should really know about this. the difference between Indonesian and Malaysian. Malaysian been claiming that BATIK is from Malaysia. they own BATIK. But they should be embarrassed, since : 1. THE QUALITY & THE ARTISANS. this is NOT BATIK. This is NORMAL PAINTING. where can be found everywhere. can be done by anybody. it looks so simple, cheap, and MEANINGLESS. but INDONESIA... Indonesia has produced BATIK for centuries. with SOOOO MANY PATTERNS and DESIGNS. and each PATTERNS or DESIGNS has a meaning. not only A PAINTED NOR DECORATED CANVAS or FABRIC. the patterns and design always ELEGANT, BEAUTIFUL, ADVANCE, HAS A SPECIAL DIFFICULTY LEVEL with A DEEP MEANING. and this culture has been passed on generations to generations. and its done by real JAVANESE PEOPLE. Not mix Malay, Chinese or whatsoever. Because we KNOW that Batik is Javanese culture, JAVANESE know BEST about BATIK. how to start, how to complete, the history, the implementation, how to preserve this culture. 2. THE PATTERN. Malaysia said there is also BATIK TRENGGANU, BATIK KELANTAN or whatsoever. but how about the quality??? how is it done??? how is the pattern??? how you guys prove that it is rooted in Malaysia since beginning??? while in Indonesia, many places also have produces BATIK. and each places has their own pattern. so when Malaysia said BATIK TRENGGANU or BATIK KELANTAN is one of CORAK BATIK, its totally different with Indonesia. when in Indonesia BATIK PEKALONGAN, BATIK SOLO, BATIK BETAWI, BATIK BALI, BATIK CIREBON is NOT A PATTERN. Its a place where BATIK is developed and famous at (just like Malaysia). but the pattern itself, every places has their own PATTERN. and its sooooo many. over than 5000 patterns if Im not mistaken. when in Malaysia theres only FLOWERS, PLANTS, or whatsoever as a pattern, we have more type of PATTERN. such as : MEGA MENDUNG, SOGAN, PARANGKUSUMO, TUJUH RUPA, PRIANGAN, GENTONGAN, KAWUNG... and soooo many more!!! 3. THE WAY THEY TREAT BATIK. I noticed that many Malaysian didnt respect Batik as good as Indonesian. alot of Malaysian said that BATIK is out of date and just an old textile that doesnt suit young generations in Malaysia. therefore, many designers CHANGED the Batik pattern into contemporary ones. which is not acceptable. because INDONESIA always believe and honor Batik as our traditional textile that every generations should embrace. thats why alot of SMART designers in Indonesia, has created many kind of clothings made of KAIN BATIK. and WE NEVER CHANGED IT. We modify Batik into a modern, chic, and up to date clothings that will be very suitable for young people in Indonesia even in the world. and they can wear it for every occassions. we use BATIK also for alot of stuffs. like BLANGKON (Javanese hat), BLANKET, PILLOW AND BOLSTER COVER, BED SHEET, CURTAIN, TABLE COVER, HOUSEHOLD STUFFS COVER, SHAWL, PASHMINA, HIJAB, KEBAYA, WEDDING DRESS, SOUVENIRS, TOWEL, SOCKS, HOTEL DECORATION, THE DECORATION IN THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACES OF INDONESIA, CAKE, and soooo many more 4. THE HISTORY. this is the funniest part. many Malaysian exclaimed Batik as theirs. BUT, they probably dont even know the history of Batik itself. 6. THE PRODUCTION. if Batik is from Malaysia, why many Malaysian still buying BATIK from Indonesia??? why Malaysia still imported Batik from Indonesia??? while Indonesia exported Batik to alot of countries in the world. 7. THE COMMUNITY. Indonesia has the largest Batik community in the world. you can easily found the Batik factory or people who are making Batik EVERYDAY. Especially in Solo, Pekalongan, Yogyakarta, etc. and this community has existed for centuries also. their ancestor has passed on this culture generation to generation. TILL TODAY. the place is more traditional, mystical and still so ORIGINAL. They are the best destination to learn Batik. 8. THE PRODUCTION. the technique, the materials, the difficulty level, the complexity, the duration that Indonesia takes to create a Batik is the most COMPLICATED, ADVANCE, and MAGNIFICENT. 9. UNESCO has added BATIK into the List Of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanitu since 2009. so, why would you MALAYSIAN still make noise and insist that BATIK is yours??? SHAME ON YOU! PATHETIC!

@@Admbaqir Songket is mainly understood in Indonesia as an ethnic Malay culture, while batik is Javanese, and Rendang is Minang. Of course, all these ethnic groups exist too in Malaysia, just like we have a Javanese community in Suriname. But that group in Suriname stays Javanese, don't they? In Malaysia, they are all called 'Malay,' while in Indonesia, most of us won't agree with this narrative of the 'Malay race' that they have. Usually, there are 3 arguments that they made: 1. "If all Teochew, Hakka, and Hokkien get to be called Chinese; all Tamil, Kerala, etc. get to be called Indians; then why can't we call Javanese people who look like Malay as Malays?" -No, by your logic, they should also be called by their present-name country of origin: Indonesians. So, their culture *should be referred to as Indonesian culture.* 2. "Cultural diffusion happens. We now have our own version." -I agree with this; their batik is made with different techniques. It has different patterns. If we can accept Riau Malay or even Papuans to have their own version of Batik, we can do the same for Malaysian Malay. Same thing with Rendang, or Kelantanese wayang kulit, for that matter. BUT, try to look at their 2009 tourism ad called "Enigmatik Malaysia." *They added the silhouette of Javanese wayang kulit (which has different shapes) and f*cking Balinese Pendet dance*. Where did this come from? Is it because we all look the same, and by your definition, we are 'Malay,' so all of our cultures are just 'Malay' culture? 3. "I have Javanese ancestry; I have every right to practice Javanese culture." -Which part of Java island did your ancestor came from? Did you know that even in Java, many cultures and dialects are different from one another, even if the people are called Javanese altogether? Any Yogyakartan or Banyumasan would never claim Reog dance as theirs. And when they perform it, they wouldn't change the words on the Singo Barong from "Ponorogo" to "Yogyakarta," like the Malaysians did. That's outrageous, and you are a disgrace to that one Javanese ancestor from probably seven generations ago. But okay, maybe you will go with your 'cultural diffusion' argument once again. Every single cultural spat happened just because of the Malayization of many beautiful Indonesian cultures. If many Indonesians back in Soeharto's days were outraged by Javanization, then are we wrong to be angry about this too? This coming from a Batak, who probably won't get called as 'Malay' because of not adhering to Islam. What a racist country with racist laws.
