I know I know, I hate doing this as well, but if you like what I do and want to get more of it, while also helping me offset some of my ludicrous gear purchases, this is the best place to do it:

One thing we can rely on is change, You always make great stuff and i like how you don't just stick to the same old boring gear topics. I have 2 other small YT accounts both with way more subs than i could hope to gather in todays algorithm market. My old music was made in DAW and i played with trap and dancehall for years loved it found small succsess locally as a DJ & beat maker. Then i got kinda bored and felt creativly trapped. tabout that time 2 years ago a flood came and washed everything i own ( except some bits at a friends house ) away. So picked myself up again and went totally Daweless about a year ago and started watching you around then. My stuffs nowhere near as polished when i use DAW but i get alot more out of it personally and have fun. I started uploading jams a few months ago just for myself and started to make clips for them, Now i totally enjoy making clips and spend more time on them than the music lol. Iv just started to do it totally for myself + self music therapy. I really enjoy just watching you and your buddy have a few beers and jam the contents relatable and you come across chill like someone you could hang. Im glad you are doing it for you don't change bro Salute Stephan McLeod 😎🤙

Exactly my kind of approach to KZfaq. If I wanted to maximise views or subs, I wouldn't make half the stuff I make. And I certainly will always keep making it, at least whenever I've not fallen into a rabbit hole of doing something else for a while which I then talk about on KZfaq later on. That's just how I roll and it works just fine for me.

I only do KZfaq for fun, which you can tell from my teeny 4K sub base. But I started a second channel about keyboards mostly because 95% of my audience had zero interest in keyboards and home recording. I have a billion interests - writing, recording, mixing, mastering, piano, synths, retro computing, drums, bass, live sound, guitars and guitar amps/effects/pedals, and it really surprised me how much of my guitar audience was ONLY interested in guitar content. It also surprises me that many, many guitar channels put out what is essentially the same video week after week, year after year, and people still love it. Sort of like a person who eats the same thing for dinner every night for years. I also happen to think that keyboard players are more into technology-related things that any other kind of musician. Regardless of what you call your channel or what content you make, I tune in because I always find it interesting.

Hey thanks a lot. You're completely right. Larger channels seem to rack up huge numbers by doing the exact same thing over and over again, because that's what works and people just blindly follow along. It must be such a soul sucking endeavour creatively. Like... getting the same lottery numbers every week and being afraid to change them or something. I can't imagine doing it.

Unfortunately as creatives these days we are almost expected to pigeon hole ourselves and churn out near identical work. Folks have come to expect the same thing from one place. Personally I blame the corporate hijacking of our entire society and culture… but that’s just my own weird Hang-up. I am known for making art featuring cat & pizzas But whenever I share anything that doesn’t have that inevitably some asks, where’s the cat? It can be stifling to say the least. That being said, it’s our job as makers of things, to be true to our own vision and keep experimenting, iterating, and growing. Otherwise we’d be no better than a massive corporate behemoth unable and unwilling to plumb the depths of human experience and push culture out at the edges.

yeh man, it actually makes me sad when creative people on youtube spend so much time asking viewers to make comments on what "content" 🤮 they liked, even worse: what they want to see... If it's channels I care about I'll take the time it would have taken to eat a biscuit to comment suggesting the creator do what they want, surely that just makes the most sense (not the biscuit part, not eating a biscuit makes zero sense!). I come here for *your* perspective on things, some of those things I care about more than others but it's your channel, not ours and I enjoy watching. I came for synths and got some photography thoughts too and that unexpectedly connected another interest of mine. Thanks for saving me the biscuit time suggesting you do what you want. The biscuit was nice. Hobnob. If yer interested. Cheers from New Zealand!

actually just to add a small note of seriousness (yeah sorry). I've enjoyed your channel for quite a while and for me the "rebrand" (so much unavoidable utterly vomitous language in these topics) improved the feel of things quite a bit. You seem to be having more fun, presumably because of the extra freedom to do what you want without restrictions. I'd say it probably took a deep breath and some bravery to diversify or break from expectations with that many subscribers and I admire you for taking that step. Not that it matters if I admire you or not, who the fk am I anyway? Commenters are so entitled these days. Anyway, no I'm not crying. *You're* crying! Loser. Can't eat biscuits. Who the eff can't eat biscuits? pfff. Much love. Looking forward to more juicy wide-ranging hipster content.

Love your take on this topic. I watch a lot of YT, have a premium account and also make some ambient music clips. But lately I get more and more frustrated with the "synthesizer scene". Quite a lot of them have become salesman and -woman. It is so obvious that they promote new gear in their videos covered as "reviews". Thank god there are stil some honest guys and gals around, like you, Nick Bath, Panic Girl, Tim Shoebridge or Omri Cohen for example... where I feel their opinions are honest and trustworthy.I find that really sad cos synths are my biggest passion in life. And it seems like and the gear industry is as greedy as the rest of capitalism. Sure the have to sell their units, but at what cost? To me, electronic music is an art form, and the commercial part of it destroys a lot. May it be I'm a little naive and romantic about music making, but shouldn't it be about the art/music in the first place? Happy to read some opinions on that topic. Sorry, my english isn't perfect, I'm an Austrian.
