🎯 I'm leaving the US for exactly the same reason. The anger, the media, the government, the culture, the fentanyl and the suffocating cost of living. America isn't the shining city on the hill or the land of opportunity anymore. I'm fortunate enough to be at a point where I have some passive income and it may not be enough to live comfortably in the US but in the Philippines I will instantly be considered a high earner. I'm in my early 40s and single with no kids. I figure I'm in the perfect position to settle in a more peaceful environment and focus on writing or vl0gging.

I was born and raised in the Philippines but I am now working in one of the most stressful areas in the US, the Bronx. But there are things you don’t learn in school and job experience, and that is your upbringing. I was brought in up in a culture that learns how to be grateful in simple small things and find the joy in coming to work, no matter how much they pay you or how stressful your clients become. When everyone around me is screaming and arguing, I can only be calm and why? Because of being raised a Filipino.

After our visit in the Philippines(BGC, Bohol Boracay) months ago. I finally realized what you and the other vloggers, has been relaying to us viewers. I was born in Baguio City, but we migrated in the U.S. when I was a young kid. While we were here. We lost many parts of our culture, due to the westernized ways of looking at life. That recent vacation has brought me back to reality. I can't wait to move back to our motherland and gain my sanity back. I lived in the US for 20 years. Came back to the PH in 2008 and stayed for good. When I was new in the PH I was on edge. I was irritable and had such a short fuse. That edge very quickly disappeared. I am now so relaxed and chill. I don’t scream or in a foul mood. I love it here. I am only stressed out because I need to return to the US for some business I need to attend to.

It's actually the other way around, Jonathan. We Filipinos bring our problems at work. we discuss about it with our friends and most of the time, they give us different perspective than how we see things. friends at work are our therapist. we don't have to spend money on therapy. Filipinos like to give unsolicited advise all the time. And most of the time, it helps. And they always end the conversation with "don't worry about it, it will all work out just fine". And it usually will. You might see a Filipino smiling, but deep inside, each one has something that he/she struggles with. But it's not at all a burden, coz we can always unload it with anyone who listens to us. Even a stranger. And the act of sharing it seems to lighten the load.

I used to work in a Swiss pharma in Phils. The General Manager can't believe that meds for depression has a low market in Phils. Indeed, he was so aware why since he always see us working with a😂 smile. Thanks for recognizing how to have a life full of fun. Hi Jonathan, with being from the United States I can relate to your thoughts on the craziness and fast paced life here. With the Filipino people having a strong family bond, I think this helps much with their happiness. In the United States there are so many broken homes and like you said a lot of kids are expected to move out at 18. Parents want to be free from their kids so they can enjoy life. Because of this mentality some people end up in Nursing Homes for care and their kids don't even visit. I really enjoyed the location where you filmed this with the beautiful Palm Trees and white sand. It looked like a picture postcard and went to the next level with the awesome Drone footage. Hopefully those watching this watched a lot of your other videos so they can fully understand your story and experiences.

Hi Jonathan, I'm filipina living in Sweden and I found your video very nostalgic coz I miss my home country so much! I'm really happy that you found peace there in Philippines. Most of us would like just to explore other culture and countries but we still hopeful and determined to retire in Philippines and enjoy our old age there. It's more fun in Philippine. There's no other culture like the Philippines I guess. I'm not saying this because I'm filipina but because I've encountered most of the other cultures as well that nothing as friendly and happy as there in Philippines. The culture shock that we filipinos encountered here abroad is kinda stressful to handle sometimes but because we are filipinos we just tried to smile though our hearts are aching. 😅 But the system here especially in Sweden is really good. I was born there but grew up in Australia, and now reside in the US as I married an American. There isn't a day where I don't miss the beaches, the food, the people. I am living vicariously through you and your vids, so thank you for sharing it with us!

Great perspective and the information you're sharing is so true. After I moved here to the Philippines I was able to accomplish huge improvements in both my physical and mental well being in a relatively short time frame. I don't believe most Americans realize just how much the stress from work and the way your food is produced and consumed is basically shortening your life span not to mention making you miserable. It's far from perfect here but the problems I've encountered by and large are so trivial that they only become problematic if I choose to make it so.

What's wild to me is, anywhere in the US there would never be a scenario where a foreigner/tourist walking in a neighborhood with a camera gets invited over to someones house for food or a chat. You would likely just have the cops called on you.

As Filipinos not only in the supermarket but also in offices or other work places, we always find ways how to be happy. Everyday, we always laugh, makes jokes, do tiktok, sing a little (even in the rest room), listen to music and chit chat a lot while working. We always make our work place a happy place so it would motivate us to go to work every day even if the salary is not enough (hahaha). We only get serious if the boss is around. Hahahaha! That’s very Filipino thing!

Everything you said resonated with me. My husband and I talk about creating a simpler, peaceful life. I love my family and friends, so leaving my loved ones will break my heart the most. However, I still plan on moving to the Philippines. There are many things about living in the US I love/loved (natural beauty, vast variety of ideas/activities/landscapes, four seasons, my loved ones, my previous career, etc.). As a former filipino, it's taking 3 years of planning, but getting away from the US's toxic culture (divisiveness, life of excess, high health care, expensive lifestyle, mass shootings, judgment, etc) is how I want to spend my retirement years. I appreciated my time in the US, but I know there's more out there for my next chapter in life. :)

People are a product of their environment. I grew up in upstate NY in the 70's. I worked on the neighbors farms from the age of 14 to the age of 18. Life was laid back in those days. The Philippines reminds me of how things were back then. Later in life I moved to the city and worked in factory's... Life became stressful, it was dog eat dog. Road rage on the commute, shop politics, backstabbing, and very competitive. Neighbors arguing over parking spaces and property boundary lines. I am now retired and living in Cavite, Philippines. I feel as if I've gone back in time to the 70's when life was laid back and people were caring and happy. I love it here and I have no intention to ever go back to the US.

We struggle a lot in terms of financial but it doesn't stop us to be happy.❤

we filipinos have a word "kapwa tao". you will not see this word anywhere. you will understand why we always like this because that word already written in our hearts. and by the way we are happy that you feel better here in our country. it means that you are getting healthy mentaly and emotionaly❤❤

Spot on with everything you said. I'm an army veteran from Alabama, have lived in several states, a few countries and visited many others. A lot has changed in the US during my lifetime. It does not feel like home anymore. I don't watch mainstream TV, advertisements or most of the programming that happens. Im not saying that our country is perfect..theres crimes, poverty and corruptions too.But compared to other countries, especially the U.S.. id still prefer my country, especially when it comes to hospitality. "Bayanihan" in general is still existing..and mostly...when it comes to desciplining the children. RESPECT is very important for us filipinos..im just so glad that we can "butt-spanking" our children without "911" being called on us, parents. Ive been to New york, California, Florida its just a short stayed in each but i can see how their kids treated their elders..so disrespectful.(sorry to say). And youre right about the language. Though we can speak and communicate in english, we cant be fluent. Since we are not born and raised there..BUT, when i was in one of their universities(US.) and i looked on their written exams...its funny they are fluent but cant spell the words right, also grammatically wrong. They judged me because of my accent (since im asian).. But when i asked them besides english, how many language can you speak?..Theres a big silence..and someone asked me (as an insult since i can read it on her face)..if how many language i can speak...and i said "Well i can speak 6 languages plus 5 of my own( Tagalog, Ilocano, kapampangan, ilonggo, Chabacano)...and by the way..I have 3 Phd's...Till i left the hall, nobody talks to me..😁😁😁 Anyways..i like your channel, your energy and smile and positivity is contagious...and Thank you for liking our culture. Disclaimer: This is my opinion based on my experiences and my observations. No hate, please 🙏 I got two things to say; Trifate Lifestyle brought up one side of Filipinos, which is, why some locals are kind to foreigners and not to their fellow locals. My take on that is because they look high up to white people. Having white skin (in this particular context, I am referring to the skin color regardless of your ethnicity) gives the perception of superiority. If you go to places like Makati and BGC, you would get almost the same atmosphere, which is fairly similar to what you would get if you're, let's say, in NYC or in DC. But I gotta say, Filipinos are friendly in general, but with some bias toward white-skinned foreigners. I've worked with Aussies and as for me, among all English-speaking countries (and by English-speaking, I meant English as their primary language) they are the kindest. However, it is almost a 180-degree turn working with Americans, and I have to agree about what Jonathan had to say in this video. I am not saying that Americans are horrible but that is the general vibe that you would usually get. Nothing beats a simple life, with just enough amount of money to support your needs and a decent amount of savings. However, not all have the option to leave the toxic world of the rat race.

I moved to Australia from the Philippines and my coworkers are always amazed at how cheerful the Pinoys are when we’re having lunch together. This is even during the time of the GFC when lay offs were happening and we could be chosen anytime. You’re right, our mentality is to if there’s a problem, either you laugh or you cry-so we just choose to laugh and make the best of things.

The 1st world problems you talk about(rat race, materialism, voluntary servitude to the corporate nightmare) are exactly the reasons why I can't wait to go. I made the biggest mistake in my life by leaving the Philippines, the country of my birth. I had a very hard life , grew up hungry , malnourished and beat up daily by a gambler father while our mother got pregnant yearly and did nothing to stop the abuse and misery. But my siblings and I dreamt big. America beckoned. So studied hard we did, lots of sacrifices and more hunger. So now here we are in America. But our success seemed empty. Since the 2 evils we wished dead and ran away from finally are 6 feet underground , home beckons back where our heart really belongs.

Agreed with you and very well said. I saw many well privileged foreigners coming here and start their content used the Ph for their vlog, gimik and clickbaits. They are always complaining and feeling entitled. There are so many better countries than the Ph, I'm sure their country is far more beautiful than this country. But they choose the Ph for their own agenda and YT content. Foreigners coming here should bring a lot of patience in their bag. They are pissed off and upset easily. Philippines is a third world country, that's why Filipinos are known for their hardship and flexibility because there are so many challenges living here. It's not perfect, we locals have also bad experiences and challenges. Everyday we worry our financials, the food in the table so we can feed our families, the rent of our house so we have roof. Compare to foreigners who usually complains of the unhealthy Filipino food, the long que of establishments, broken atm machines, transportation, the crows of the rooster in the morning, unavailability of materials that they used to buy in their country. You see my point.

I have been watching since your first video in the Philippines. I traveled and worked in the far East for many years, starting in the 70s. You are in one of the best places in all of Asia. Your analysis of the differences between some hectic places and where you are is fairly stated. It should be said and was, thanks. The other two areas I love is Bali/Lombok, Indonesia and Koh Samui, Thailand (which has overgrown) as has Bali. I pray this does not happen in Bahol. I think it has, somewhat, a little. To a certain extent this growth economically is very good for the families. It only is rough when it grows to much. I experienced this in my home town, Miami. God bless and enjoy. I finally just commented on the Province Life episode and that was your best work because of Ann and the little girl (Aya?) who was just adorable and pretty much stole the show. I grew up in the Philippines and went to HS and college in California and currently live in the states so i know of the beautiful islands and life in the province in PI. It is nice to highlight and go see the different islands, but you said it yourself, "its the people" and that episode is super cool because of Ann and Aya. Please do at least a monthly Vlog with those 2 and dont even think about what the episode is going to be about, just hanging out and that in itself will bring joy to our hearts :) Please, do not climb any more coconut trees, we dont want anyone getting hurt that would be horrible..

2:20 That's true A LOT of Filipinos goes overseas to earn a living, because there's not a lot of oppurtunity here. Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) are perhaps the largest diaspora populations in the world.

As a Filipino we easy to connect to our fellow Filipino where ever country we work or live,we make community,find time to meet each other to have party,going to tour together,church group together,worship together in the church,fellowship,bonding and of course foods is not absent where bonding happened,we love to share foods and eat together

Homeless, crack pipes, used needles, fentanyl zombies that I have to avoid everyday while working. A very wasteful country. Always a very happy moment for me is when im in Bohol. I am a Filipino, born and raised here. I migrated to the US when I was 30 y/o. Lived and worked there for over 15 years. I now hold dual PH-US citizenships. While working in the US I invested some of my earnings in real estate properties here in the PH. Being able to put up several rental properties here, and thought that the monthly income should be enough to sustain my simple lifestyle, I left my job in the US and decided to move back here just last year for good. I lived and worked within the tri-state area in the US (DC, Maryland, Virginia). My personal experience with making friends with the "locals" was not difficult at all. They are not as friendly as the Filipinos in the PH for foreigners (LOL) but not hostile either. I would describe it as "professional". After a decade and a half of work work work I guess I just got tired of the US fast-paced corporate world and thought to come back to my slow-moving, simplier life, more relaxed, always smiling, friendly home country. I've been away from the motherland for over 24 years and I love watching you. I'm visiting the motherland in August and I am super stoked. The motherland will always be my safe space. Living in the US and Canada have taken a toll on my mental health. One day I'm going back for good.

You are right, l moved to US in 2005 with my Family just to earn money but l see a lot of home less & also stressed not like in Philippines every body smile you can live a simple life & I’m happy you adopt our culture in Philippines God bless you take care always.

Where from Bohol and Cebu but moved to the US when I was only 9yrs old. The first year was a struggle for me learning the language but after that it was easy. Unlike, if it was the other way around it would take longer to learn Visaya for any American kid at that age. Glad I am back here in the Philippines after working living and working in the USA so many years. Great country but its divided as a society right now, they need to follow the "One Nation under GOD" pledge to get them together as one.

This video was 6 months ago and still speaks volumes to me. As a transplanted Pinoy here in America, I definitely get an ache in my heart missing my home country and what I grew up with. I realized how much less I may have grown up with but the joy and happiness still sticks with me to this day. I love and appreciate America for helping me establish myself, but I think it’s about time to head back home. Salamat again, Jonathan. ❤

I moved to the US 17 years ago and it’s sad coz I feel like I’ve adopted too much of the American culture. I enjoy watching your videos coz it takes me back to how it used to be and how I used to be. My husband and I gotta retire there someday, I can’t keep living here in the US. I want my peace and joy back… it’s so depressing here and everybody hates everybody here, too much division. Hello! I'm glad I ran across your videos. I've watch some of them and I as Filipina born in the Philippines and raised in the US, I appreciate how you embrace the culture. You have said exactly how I feel living in the US. There's so much hate here and violence right now and that's what you see/hear on the news almost everyday. The discrimination amongst so many is an everyday occurrence. I miss the Philippines and envy how you can live and eat like the locals. Thank you for sharing. I totally agree with what you said. Living in the rural areas is different, it’s simple , unhurried , it’s not all easy but it’s peaceful, definitely less stressful. Yes the big difference the way Americans live and the way Filipinos live is that we Filipinos as a family want to be together, stay together. The parents will not push away their kids and say you’re now an adult go take care of yourself, no we want to be together, we take care of each other. It’s very common in a household to have 3 generations of the family living together. Also when we party everyone is there from grandparents to the youngest kid, Filipinos are tightly connected to each other. Family is very very important. I’m glad you are really enjoying your stay in the Philippines. I’m here in the US living in a quiet suburb of Washington DC surrounded by a lot of trees and greenery. One day soon I will go back to the Philippines. Live in a rural town like where you are. 😊

I love watching all your videos! Every day I check if you got anything new posted😊. I am a Filipina but live here in the US now- San Antonio, Tx. Anyway, I could not agree more about entitlement, loving and enjoying work, politics etc… You’re right… here in the US, I guess anywhere as well (, but more so here) , you have the surround yourself with people that are grateful for what they have, positive no matter what. Filipinos are that - grateful, positive and most of all- God fearing. Our Faith is very important to us. I miss the simple life! Thank you for posting all these wonderful videos ! I live in Destin Florida and I wish our beaches looked like this. We have amazing powder white sand, and emerald color water. But it feels so dead because there is no vegetation. I've been here 18 months and have not gone to the beach, and I live in a beach condo. 😂

I am filipina but I studied in Switzerland. After a reunion, a friend asked me why I did not travel much. I still have so much to see and discover in the Philippines and have no particular calling to travel elsewhere. Yup. This is why I really am not motivated to go anywhere else.

Awesome take on the Philippines. I always tell friends don’t take my word for it , you need to come on vacation first like me and then .I fell in love with the country, culture and people just are friendly and welcoming.

You're right. Many Americans are angry when you don't speak English perfectly, at least in my experience working in a call center. They will give a racist remark even. Even they understand you they would ask you to transfer them to an American agent. In the Philippines when we hear foreigners try to speak our language we are genuinely happy. Also, Filipinos are mentally tough even we have the most difficult situation but we still manage to smile. Maybe because we are family oriented. We have the support of our family.

You asked for comments on how Filipinos feel about migrating to US and how we feel about the culture here... my way of having my life in the US as a Filipino, is to still practice my Filipino culture. There are a lot of ways and space here won't be enough to describe. You're right about the indifference of most people outside the PH towards anybody. All I can say is that, Pinoys are just naturally fun-loving people that you would want to be with in your life. Thanks for embracing us, the PH.! Count on us and you'd be a part of the family!

Without those complaint i have no job. But if they only knew how hard life living in this country. I’ve lived here in Los Angeles for forty years- I came here when I was 20 years old. That’s more than half my life- at first America for me is a land of opportunity and stuff are so easy to acquire until you end up just acquiring more stuff and finding yourself working like a dog. You are so right about your assessment comparing both countries lifestyles - I miss the friends I left behind over there and opportunities over there meeting new friends and family. I can keep talking and tell you but I guess you already figure it out. You hit it spot on. More power to you and thank you for sharing the Philippines 😊
